Before long, it seemed to notice something. It swung its massive body around and charged straight toward Viserys and his companions, its sharp, yellowed tusks gleaming coldly in the sunlight.
Its heavy hooves trampled the fallen leaves that had accumulated over the years, while the wind carried its pungent animal stench straight into their nostrils from dozens of paces away.
The guards accompanying them immediately tightened their grips on their spears and longswords, spreading out in a fan to surround the maddened boar and trap it.
Viserys remained firmly where he stood, without retreating a single step. He slowly drew the hunting knife at his waist, its honed edge gleaming coldly, and watched the charging boar without blinking, calmly waiting for the best moment to strike.
Dead branches and leaves crackled beneath the Boar King's massive body, and its foul, hot breath was almost upon Viserys's face.
But the instant the Boar King lowered its head and raised its tusks to gore him, Viserys abruptly sidestepped the charge. His physical stats might have been high, but he still had no desire to be knocked down head-on by a wild boar.
Then, using the boar's forward momentum, Viserys drove his entire hunting knife into the wound the arrow had opened earlier. The blade slipped between the bones and sank in to the hilt, completely severing the vessels around its heart.
The frenzied Boar King gave one last feeble cry. Its enormous body swayed twice, then crashed to the ground. Its limbs twitched helplessly a few times before it went utterly still.
The guards gathered around at once, cheering loudly at their king's swift, clean hunting technique.
Viserys crouched down and gripped one of the boar's tusks, using it as leverage to turn the carcass over and inspect it for a while.
