A cold light flashed in Viserys's eyes, his killing intent almost palpable. Yet the smile on his face only deepened-a cold smile at the sight of prey leaping into the trap of its own accord.
"You want my niece Rhaenys? Interesting. I agree."
His voice was terrifyingly calm. "As long as you can prove you're worthy of her, worthy of the Targaryen name. Everything else can wait until you walk out of the dragonfire."
His final words were terrifyingly soft. "Now, let's see whether your grand boasts burn as hot as dragonfire."
He gave no one another chance to back out, calling an order through the door. "Prepare the grounds. Meet me at the training yard outside the castle in a quarter of an hour."
With that, he turned and left the council chamber, leaving behind Aegon, whose face had gone pale again, and Clinton, whose eyes had dimmed.
The training yard outside Dragonwing Castle had been cleared. Unsullied soldiers stood around it with solemn faces, and the atmosphere was tense. Outside the yard, King Ghidorah craned forward to peer inside curiously.
Ashara stayed inside the castle with Daenerys and Rhaenys. They heard the commotion outside but had no idea what was happening, knowing only that Viserys was about to perform a "dangerous ritual."
Viserys took off his outer robe and walked to the center of the yard in nothing but a close-fitting undershirt. Answering his summons, Blackflame descended from the sky. The dragon's enormous body carried an overwhelming presence that left Clinton and the others, who were seeing the dragon for the first time, frozen in place. Dark red dragon eyes watched their master as a low growl rumbled in Blackflame's throat.
"Blackflame, aim at me. Dracarys-dragonfire." Viserys gave the command in Valyrian, his voice calm.
Blackflame tilted that
