Although these mutations were good for the Hatchling Dragons' growth, they also meant greater risks.
After all, they had yet to develop a full sense of awareness. If they accidentally lost control, the damage would be greater, and irreversible.
This conclusion made Viserys place even more importance on training the Hatchling Dragons, teaching them to control their own power.
Rhaenys also joined in the process. Although Meleys had yet to display any special abilities, she was growing as quickly as the other three Hatchling Dragons, far faster than any dragon recorded in history.
As Viserys continued observing and training the Hatchling Dragons' special abilities, the remaining five Dragon Eggs in the volcanic cave also began to hatch, one after another.
The first to hatch was the Dragon Egg with a soft pearl-pink base and golden stripes across its surface. With a series of crisp cracks, a slender claw reached through a split in the shell, followed by a head covered in pink and gold scales.
She gleamed in the dim light, her wing membranes pale gold, her golden eyes calm and gentle. She let out a high, thin cry with an almost melodic quality.
Viserys stepped forward, and the Hatchling Dragon studied him curiously, sniffing with flared nostrils. When Viserys reached out to stroke her, she meekly lowered her head and made a contented sound.
"Syrax." Her appearance reminded Viserys of Rhaenyra, the famed "she-dragon" of the Targaryen Blacks during the Dance of the Dragons.
So he named this Hatchling Dragon after her dragon.
Next, the Dragon Egg patterned with crimson and dark gray spirals began to hatch.
Once the shell broke, a head on a long, snakelike neck emerged first. His scales were deep crimson, interspersed with dark gray markings, while his wing membranes shaded from pink to gray.
