On a dark, windy night perfect for murder, the joint operation was underway.
Inside the corporate park funded by the Chen Family, squads of armed personnel were urgently mobilized, exerting themselves for their employer as they transported seemingly disorganized, scattered yet top-secret documents and equipment.
These days, despite being armed personnel of mixed blood, they had been running around doing heavy manual labor like common drudges for quite some time, simply because ordinary employees without sufficient clearance were not qualified to handle such confidential information.
"Zone 3 has been cleared! Zone 3 has been cleared!"
"Group A needs five more people! Be careful with that imported equipment. Don't bang it up and damage it!"
"Hey, you guys over there! I told you to take a breather, not keep resting there! Everything has to be moved out by tomorrow at the latest. Can you take responsibility if we fall behind schedule?!"
The underground levels of this medical facility were filled with a cold, clammy dampness. It was the sort of place where ghosts appearing at midnight would not feel out of place, yet the Chen Family descendants directed everyone up and down, hauling things back and forth until the place became bustling with activity.
The burly mixed-blood subordinates did not dare ask why they were always busy in the middle of the night. They were getting paid overtime, so they worked. Do whatever job belonged to your position; let the people above worry about what concerned them. Do not ask questions you should not ask.
"Hey, you lot, carry this upstairs! Move faster! Come back once you're done. Out of everyone here, you're the slowest!"
A stern Chen Family descendant singled out several people in armed unit uniforms and ordered them to continue working. He did not actually care who they were. The Chen Family had plenty of armed personnel. But as far as he was concerned, the task assigned by the family head had to be completed without error.
"Yo, Third Brother, how much do you have left over here?"
Another Chen Family descendant emerged from the corner of the road nearby. Their faces bore a resemblance, making it clear that both were Father Chen's sons.
"Fourth Brother... Don't mention it. I'm still busy. The schedule is too tight. Looks like we'll have to work through the whole night until dawn... Unlike the section you're in charge of, which is easy and effortless—"
"Hahaha, not at all. It only means Father thinks I'm still lacking... Third Brother is capable and steady, so naturally you're more highly regarded!"
Third Brother and Fourth Brother of the Chen Family sounded as though they were making casual family conversation, but the two brothers were not actually close. It was merely their usual probing of one another.
The Chen Family had dozens of brothers and sisters. Aside from Nono, the rest generally spoke with this air of familial harmony. On the surface, they appeared cordial, but behind the scenes, they never stopped scheming against one another. No matter how vast the Chen Family estate was, Father Chen would eventually have to hand it over to his children—
But with dozens of competitors in total, there were still far too many.
To that end, each of them tried every possible way to make the others lose as much of Father's favor as possible.
"Ah, how could I possibly compare... If we're talking about Father's most favored child, it would have to be our little sister, Mo Tong!"
Hearing Third Brother's words, Fourth Brother's eyes flickered. He looked around and lowered his voice. "I heard that Mo Tong... is going to marry into the Gattuso Family?"
"Anyone with eyes can see it, can't they? Those foreigners were making eyes at Father some time ago."
"No, no, what I mean is, our little sister Mo Tong seems to have passed the interview. Even the older generation of the Gattuso family is very satisfied with her!"
Fourth Brother's tone was sour. He felt that wherever this genius little sister went, she was treated like a princess, adored and warmly treasured by elders as though she were a precious gem unearthed by nature itself.
"...Say less. Her future has already been decided anyway. Once the time comes, she'll have nothing more to do with the family, and she'll be out of Father's sight from then on. That should count as a good thing!"
Third Brother waved a hand, indicating that he did not want to discuss the matter further. Looking up, he searched for the armed personnel he had sent to move things just now, only to find that they had not returned yet.
"Why are those people so slow? The family pays them so much, and all we get are a bunch of useless fools?" He casually pointed at two more people. "You two, go upstairs and hurry those lazy bastards along!"
The two turned and left, disappearing into the stairwell. Yet just like before, they did not return for a long time.
"Hm?" After working for a while, Third Brother of the Chen Family noticed that the people he had sent upstairs had still not come back, and he immediately grew suspicious.
"Those people have been dawdling for so long. Don't tell me they fell into a toilet?"
"Third Brother! A family this large is bound to have a few lazy troublemakers. If you ask me, the fact that they dared not come back means they probably have some bad intentions..."
"Fourth Brother, go handle your own business. I'll keep an eye on things here!"
Third Brother did not want his younger brother overstepping his authority and meddling in his territory. He hurriedly stopped a squad of armed personnel from working, sealed off the entrance leading to the upper floors, and began accessing the surveillance footage from above—
Unexpectedly, a sound came from the stairwell. The armed personnel vigilantly raised their black gun barrels, only lowering them after seeing familiar faces.
Third Brother of the Chen Family stepped forward, his face dark with anger as he furrowed his brows and berated them, "Who told you to dawdle for so long?! Don't tell me every last one of you fell into a toilet!"
A large face across from him showed an embarrassed smile as its owner slowly approached. "Sorry, we took a while taking a dump. It's pitch-black in the middle of the night, and the brothers didn't dare walk alone through a creepy place like this..."
Third Brother of the Chen Family remained unforgiving. "Cut the crap. You've been on duty in this place for years, and you're afraid of walking at night? Also, entering the confidential underground level requires a password. What's your password? Confirm it! Don't complain that it's troublesome. Those are the rules. No matter how many times you pass through, you report the password!"
"Ah!"
The large-faced man at the front suddenly fell silent, merely sighing in a completely irrelevant manner.
Before the Chen Family descendant could react, he pulled out a Remington 870. As the people opposite went from surprise and confusion to preparing to angrily draw their weapons, he swiftly worked the pump, beat them to the draw, raised the barrel, and pulled the trigger.
With a deafening blast, the powerful shotgun fired at close range struck the Chen Family descendant and several armed personnel around him. Caught completely off guard by the ambush, they fell backward, their twisted expressions nearly frozen on their faces.
This scene of subordinates turning against their superiors stunned everyone.
Fourth Brother of the Chen Family stared blankly as the corpse of Third Brother, whom he regarded as a rival, collapsed to the ground. Only two seconds later did he react and roar at everyone, "Enemy attack—!"
The scene instantly erupted. One moment, the armed unit members had been honestly working like laborers; the next, they had drawn their weapons and become heavily armed fire support.
At the same time, the large-faced "traitor soldier" began to twist and distort. His disguise vanished like an illusion, and the personnel behind him changed appearance as well. They were none other than Old Tang and the Zhou Family operation team members.
Glancing at the corpses lying on the ground, Old Tang sighed. "Passwords and all that... who would even understand that!"
