After Shen Yangge drank his medicine, Chu Xuanzhen carried him to bed and tucked the thin covers around him, then had someone fetch a book and leaned against the headboard to read.
The two were fairly quiet, but that peace did not last long.
After drinking the medicine, Shen Yangge felt rather warm. He tugged at his collar and shifted farther into the bed, lifting a corner of the covers to rest his pale bare feet on top. His toenails were flushed an unusual rosy red, as though the heat beneath the covers had left them burning.
Then, unable to sleep no matter how much he tossed and turned, Shen Yangge simply opened his eyes and quietly edged closer to Chu Xuanzhen, wanting to see what book he was reading.
As he drew closer, his gaze dropped.
The writing before his eyes might as well have been alien script. Shen Yangge stared until his vision blurred, yet still could not understand it. Other people could at least recognize each individual character, even if they did not know what the characters meant when put together.
