Luo Mang helped Kakashi’s team complete the bridge mission, captured Gato’s group, and killed Zabuza and Haku after learning Kirigakure would not pay for them. Back in Konoha, Tsunade began training Luo Mang while the Diary showed the coming battle between Orochimaru and Hiruzen Sarutobi.

• Kakashi hid Haku and trained Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke at the bridge, while Konan discovered the Diary and learned about her past and the Masked Man’s future confrontation with her.
• Gato and his hired missing-nin attacked Kakashi’s group, and Sasuke awakened his two-tomoe Sharingan as he fought to protect Naruto.
• Zabuza ambushed Luo Mang at the bridge, but Luo Mang used genjutsu to capture him and Gato, then Kakashi’s team recovered Haku and held the captives for ransom.
• Luo Mang learned Kirigakure would not pay for Zabuza and Haku, so he killed them, while Kakashi and Naruto recovered Gato’s hidden treasure and the group returned to Konoha.
• After the team completed its mission, Tsunade dragged Luo Mang away and challenged him to spar, then he discovered his Amazing Camera could remove photographed objects at a chakra cost.
• Tsunade and Jiraiya watched the Diary’s video of Orochimaru confronting Hiruzen Sarutobi, and Tsunade vowed to stop Orochimaru after seeing Hashirama Senju and Tobirama Senju summoned against Hiruzen.

Luo Mang trained with Sasuke, joined Konoha’s Chunin Exams as a one-man team, and helped his teammates through the first test. After entering the Forest of Death alone, he fought Gaara and escaped the growing crowd by disguising himself as a Takigakure ninja.

• Hiruzen sealed Hashirama Senju and Tobirama Senju, while Jiraiya mourned him and Luo Mang began testing the Camera on bandits.
• Kakashi taught Luo Mang and Sasuke the Chidori, then Naruto became Jiraiya’s student and Sakura began training under Tsunade.
• Gaara confronted Luo Mang, Naruto, and Sasuke after arriving in Konoha, and Kakashi later nominated Luo Mang to compete alone in the Chunin Exams.
• Luo Mang’s diary revealed the exams’ stages and Orochimaru’s plan to target Sasuke, while Jiraiya joined the exam patrol and Kabuto sent Sound Ninja toward Konoha.
• At the Academy, Luo Mang defeated Rock Lee with genjutsu, then refused Kabuto’s information and warned Sasuke through his diary that Orochimaru wanted his body.
• Ibiki’s written exam tested the candidates’ resolve, and Naruto’s refusal to quit helped the remaining examinees pass.
• Anko led the candidates into the Forest of Death, where Luo Mang entered alone and Gaara attacked him, and Luo Mang fought back with water techniques and Chidori.
• Temari and Kankuro offered Luo Mang their Heaven Scroll and fled, while Luo Mang escaped the gathering teams disguised as a Takigakure ninja carrying an Earth Scroll.

Luo Mang’s team survived the Forest of Death and reached the Tower as Orochimaru and Danzo’s attack on Konoha unfolded. The Chunin Exam preliminaries began, Naruto defeated Kiba, and Hinata faced Neji after he cruelly attacked her confidence.

• Luo Mang’s team rescued Karin from a bear, welcomed her as their sensory ninja, and learned from captured attackers that Orochimaru planned to seize Sasuke.
• Orochimaru and Danzo attacked Konoha with reanimated Hokage, Wood Release users, and Jūgo’s explosive prisoners, but they escaped before Sasuke could be captured.
• Luo Mang’s team reached the Tower, helped Kiba’s team with a scroll, and joined the examinees who passed after Hiruzen voided the second-stage results.
• The preliminaries began, and Sasuke defeated Rock Lee while the group watched a recording of Lee’s fierce fight against Gaara.
• Sakura defeated Ino, and Jiraiya and Tsunade reported Orochimaru and Danzo’s role in the invasion to Hiruzen.
• Naruto defeated Kiba with a Rasengan, then encouraged Hinata before her match against Neji began.
• Neji mocked Hinata’s lack of confidence and told her that she should stay home to support a husband and raise children.

Hinata Hyuga awakened the Tenseigan after defeating Neji Hyuga, drawing the attention of Konoha and other villages while Luo Mang stayed by her side. As Konoha considered new alliances and the Chunin Ninja Exams approached, Luo Mang’s relationships with Hinata and Sakura became an open point of tension.

• Hinata Hyuga awakened the Tenseigan during her match with Neji Hyuga, overwhelmed him, and collapsed after Kakashi Hatake and the others restrained her.
• Luo Mang stayed with Hinata as Konoha’s leaders learned of her new eyes, and Hinata confessed her feelings before naming them the Tenseigan at Luo Mang’s suggestion.
• Baki told Gaara, Temari, and Kankuro that Orochimaru had assassinated the Fourth Kazekage and sent them to remain in Konoha while he investigated.
• Hiruzen Sarutobi agreed to consider letting Karin remain in Konoha, while he also asked Jiraiya and Tsunade to consider who might succeed him as Hokage.
• Hanabi Hyuga questioned Luo Mang about his intentions toward Hinata, and Hyuga Hiashi later ordered Hanabi to spend time with him to undermine Hinata’s idealized view of him.
• Konan visited Konoha to discuss cooperation and meet Luo Mang, while Tsunade suspected she might seek a marriage alliance with him.
• Luo Mang told Sakura Haruno that he had accepted Hinata’s feelings and would not choose between them, and Sakura agreed to be one of his wives.
• Tsunade warned Sakura that Luo Mang had started dating Hinata, but Sakura said she already knew and accepted the relationship, shocking Tsunade and Konan.
