What was he supposed to do now?

He stared at the little brat diagonally across from him, who was putting on a stern face to look cool, then glanced at the clueless-looking kid in the front row. Helplessness filled his heart.

That was right. He had transmigrated!

Fine, so he had transmigrated. Wasn't he supposed to shoot straight to the top, like in every webnovel?

But who could have guessed he would land in the Naruto World?

Worse still, he had become a member of the Uchiha Clan.

The problem was, he was only six!

He had actually been pretty happy when he first found out.

The Sharingan! Once he developed it, wouldn't he basically be cheating?

But one look at those two brought his excitement crashing down.

Weren't those two little kids Sasuke Uchiha and Naruto Uzumaki, both the same age as him?

He remembered perfectly well that the Uchiha Clan Massacre had happened when Sasuke was seven.

In other words, Itachi would most likely kill him in another year.

To put it bluntly, he was sitting around waiting to be slaughtered.

He didn't want to die!

He had finally gotten a chance to transmigrate. He couldn't just kick the bucket like this.

He growled inwardly, No. I can't just wait to die. I have to think of something!

Just then, a sudden ding rang out in his mind, followed by a mechanical voice.

"Energy storage complete. Ultimate Sharingan System activated!"

What? A system?

Had the cheat he had been waiting so desperately for finally arrived?

A status screen that only he could see instantly popped up before his eyes.

Host: Uchiha Yi Limit Sharingan: Level 0 (0/10). Capable of infinite evolution. Eyes not yet awakened. Skills: None Level 0 assessment: You're a weakling with a pathetic amount of chakra. You seriously suck!

Uchiha Yi instantly grew excited.

Limit Sharingan? Infinite evolution? Wasn't that insanely powerful?

But the assessment left him dumbfounded.

A weakling? He sucked?

Was this some knockoff system?

He called to the system in his mind, his tone full of anticipation. How about explaining what you do?

Ding-dong!

"This is the Ultimate Sharingan System, with the potential for infinite evolution. Leveling up unlocks the corresponding Sharingan abilities."

"So can you give me all sorts of ridiculously powerful skills?"

"No."

"Then surely you've got some amazing items?"

"No."

"Can you at least let me flex my aura and have followers and beautiful women flock to me?"

"Host, please stop indulging in fantasies. This system is only responsible for allowing your Sharingan to evolve infinitely."

What the hell!

Half his budding excitement died on the spot, leaving him with a single motherfucker he wasn't sure he should say.

No overpowered skills, no amazing items. This wouldn't solve the crisis of the Night of the Uchiha Massacre at all!

Still unwilling to give up, he asked, "Then can it evolve into the Rinnegan?"

If he couldn't reach the top in one leap, surely he could at least get a Rinnegan?

"Evolving the Rinnegan requires the Limit Sharingan to reach level 6."

"Holy shit! The Rinnegan at level 6? Wouldn't levels 7 and 8 blow the whole Naruto dimension apart?" He couldn't sit still anymore.

"Yes. The Limit Sharingan transcends the ordinary Sharingan. With a high enough level, it can blow apart the heavens."

Uchiha Yi: ...

He had only tossed the idea out there. It really could blow apart the heavens?

He grew impatient. "System, quick, level up my Limit Sharingan!"

"The Limit Sharingan requires proficiency to advance. It can only level up once proficiency is full. Your current level 0, zero-tomoe Sharingan requires 10 proficiency points."

Proficiency?

He finally understood. The numbers after the level represented proficiency.

Without proficiency, he couldn't level up his Sharingan.

He hurriedly asked, "Then how do I get proficiency?"

The system's answer nearly made him explode.

"Please discover how to obtain proficiency on your own, host."

On his own?

Discover my ass!

He nearly shouted out loud, but the system went silent. No matter what he asked, it didn't respond.

Soon, however, something suddenly occurred to him.

"Wait. A level 0, zero-tomoe Sharingan?"

He suddenly realized something. Didn't that mean this thing was already a Sharingan?

Then could he use it normally?

And would using it increase his proficiency?

The thought rekindled hope in his heart.

He muttered inwardly, I'll give it a try and see if it works.

Uchiha Yi knew the basics of using the Sharingan inside out. They weren't a secret in the Uchiha Clan, but mandatory lessons every clan member had to master.

He tried channeling a little chakra into his eyes, and his vision instantly brightened. The teacher's movements at the podium slowed by half a beat, and everything around him became as clear as glass polished eight hundred times. The changes were slight, but unmistakably real.

His heart jolted. Had he really awakened his eyes? A moment later, he caught on. This wasn't an ordinary Sharingan. It was his Limit Sharingan.

Three minutes later, a ding sounded and the system appeared. "Proficiency +1. Current proficiency: 1!"

He clenched his little fists, about to celebrate, when his eyelids suddenly began to ache. His pitiful chakra reserves instantly ran dry. He couldn't even hold out for three minutes?

Even a zero-tomoe Sharingan could gain proficiency. That was a windfall. But he soon discovered that his six-year-old body had absurdly little chakra. One use depleted it completely, recovery took five hours, and he could earn at most four proficiency points a day. Three days would get him the ten he needed. He rubbed his chin. This pace was acceptable.

Then another thought struck him. With only a year left before the Night of the Uchiha Massacre, would this pace be enough? While he was fretting over it, three days passed, and the system dinged. "Proficiency +1. Current proficiency: 10! Proficiency is full. Level up?"

Level up! Hurry! he shouted impatiently in his mind.

"Congratulations, host. Your Limit Sharingan has leveled up. Current level: 1, One-Tomoe Sharingan!"

His eyelids seemed to tighten, then relax, and his vision grew clearer. Looking in a mirror, he saw a little tomoe in each eye, vivid and bright.

The panel popped up:

Host: Uchiha Yi Limit Sharingan: Level 1 (0/100). A Limit Sharingan capable of infinite evolution. Currently a One-Tomoe Sharingan. Skills: 0/1 (One skill can be slotted) Level 1 assessment: Hey, young man, you're level 1 now! You can finally use chakra to perform ninjutsu, but your combat strength is still that of a weakling!

Naruto bobbed his round head as he came over, grinning brightly.

"Yi, school's out. Want to go to Ichiraku Ramen?"

Uchiha Yi glanced at Naruto's round belly, and what little interest he had in ramen instantly faded by half. He hadn't even gotten comfortable with his powerful new system yet. Who had time for ramen?

"No, I've got something to do today. I'm heading home!"

His little legs pumped, and he vanished in a flash.

He was an orphan whose parents had died on a mission. Unlike Naruto, though, his parents had left him some savings, and the Uchiha Clan also paid him survivor benefits. He lived in a small courtyard home covering a thousand square meters. With an adult's soul, he had long since dismissed the nanny the clan had arranged and lived alone.

He tested it repeatedly at home. Keeping the zero-tomoe Sharingan active for three minutes drained all his chakra. A six-year-old recovered slowly, so he could earn at most four points a day. Three days would get him ten points. He figured that pace was acceptable. But then he thought again about how he was six, with pitiful chakra reserves and only a year left before the Night of the Uchiha Massacre. Would this pace be enough?

Soon, however, he began to see a way around that problem. He stopped dwelling on it and focused entirely on earning proficiency.

A line appeared on the system panel: "Hey, young man, you're level 1 now! You can finally use chakra to perform ninjutsu, but your combat strength is still that of a weakling!"

Uchiha Yi stared at the line, the corner of his mouth twitching involuntarily. He already knew he was weak, but having the system call him out so bluntly still stung his pride.

Even as he inwardly grumbled about being a weakling, his attention never strayed. It went straight to the skill section.

"System, what's going on with these skills?"

He tapped the panel with a fingertip, a hint of urgency in his voice.

"Your Limit Sharingan has reached level 1, host. You can slot one skill. Once slotted, the skill can also be enhanced by the Limit Sharingan," the system replied in a completely flat voice.

"Slot a skill? What does that mean?" Uchiha Yi froze. He had heard of ninjutsu, but never of slotting skills into someone's eyes.

"Exactly what it sounds like. You'll receive a random skill, influenced by your current world and strength. It will be the most suitable skill for you," the system added.

"Random?" Uchiha Yi raised an eyebrow. He couldn't shake the feeling that this system wasn't reliable.

"Don't worry. It's random, but absolutely tailored to you!" the system assured him confidently.

"Fine. Hurry up and slot one!" Uchiha Yi didn't agonize over it. He had no other choice anyway.

A crisp ding rang out, and a system notification appeared. "Congratulations, host. You have obtained the skill: Enhanced Eight Gates!"

Uchiha Yi froze on the spot, his mind filled with nothing but Eight Gates? And an enhanced version?

There weren't any side effects, were there? He hurriedly opened the skill panel, and lines of text appeared:

Eight Gates: Level 0 (0/10). Enhanced by the Limit Sharingan, allowing all eight gates to remain permanently open without harming the body. Currently level 0; no gates opened. Friendly reminder: Opening the Gate of Opening permanently grants a threefold chakra boost.

Even knowing this was a gift from above, Uchiha Yi's first reaction was shock, followed by wild joy.

Chakra was what he needed most right now. These Enhanced Eight Gates were practically a savior tailor-made for him.

His current chakra reserves were slightly greater than those of an ordinary lower-year academy student. His level 1 Sharingan let him barely touch the threshold of genin.

When he had trained his Sharingan before, maintaining it at level 1 earned him two proficiency points per session. Recovery took five hours, so he could accumulate eight points a day.

But if he opened the Gate of Opening, his chakra would reach elite genin levels. He could gain twenty-four points a day. Wouldn't that let him raise his Limit Sharingan to level 2 in five days?

Uchiha Yi's eyes lit up, and a fire instantly blazed in his heart. His top priority now was opening the first gate.

He figured that Eight Gates proficiency had to come from physical training. If he trained like mad, he should be able to earn enough quickly.

He went home and did a thousand push-ups, exhausting himself to the point of collapse before finally getting a system notification: Eight Gates proficiency increased by 1.

Uchiha Yi nearly cursed. He had braced himself, but the abysmal efficiency still hit him hard.

Still, he understood that the issue wasn't how many push-ups he did. He had to push his body to its limit.

After resting, he felt that his body really had grown a little stronger, and his chakra had increased a tiny bit too.

While in class, a thought led him to two people: those thick-browed fellows with bowl cuts. The prospect gave him a bit of a headache, but he decided to seek their advice anyway.

Just then, Iruka's voice rang out from the podium. "Team 7, Uchiha Yi versus Sasuke Uchiha!"

Uchiha Yi was bewildered. What was going on?

Before he could figure it out, Naruto and Kiba beside him were already laughing at his misfortune.

Naruto slapped his thigh, laughing so hard he couldn't straighten up. "Haha, Yi's out of luck! He got matched against Sasuke!"

Kiba joined in the jeering. "Hmph! That idiot Yi actually dared steal an opponent from me, the future Hokage! He deserves to get beaten!"

Only then did Uchiha Yi realize that Iruka had been announcing the sparring groups. His rotten luck had landed him in the same group as Sasuke.

Looking at Sasuke's icy expression, he suddenly felt a little intimidated.

After all these years in the Naruto World, Uchiha Yi had blended thoroughly into the crowd. The Uchiha Clan's elders had all lumped him in with the failures who would "probably never awaken their eyes in this lifetime."

Even if he could awaken them, they expected it wouldn't happen until he was older. Sasuke, though, was an entirely different story!
