He hadn't died-or rather, only half of his body had died. He had used Twin Demon Attack, the special kekkei genkai of Sakon and Ukon from the Sound Five.
After obtaining the Chimera Technique, Orochimaru had deliberately created a spare body. Unlike Hiruko, he had fused the powers of five kekkei genkai directly into it.
Using Twin Demon Attack, he had merged that spare body into himself, producing the sort of special double Kabuto Yakushi had used. Unlike Sakon and Ukon, both bodies belonged to him.
He had thought the body created through the Chimera Technique was perfect, so he hadn't been all that interested in Sasuke's body. Now, however, it seemed the bodies of the Uchiha Clan held quite a few secrets.
A gleam flashed in his serpentine eyes as he thought, I still have to get my hands on Sasuke's body.
Suddenly, with a sharp crackle, a bolt of lightning pierced the door and shot straight toward Orochimaru. But he was already half-dead from his injuries, weak as hell.
He endured the lightning blade head-on, his expression turning thunderous. The next instant, the door shattered, and Sasuke stepped inside. Just as in the original story, Sasuke had turned on Orochimaru.
Orochimaru had originally thought success was assured and that he could simply take Sasuke's body. But the idiot had gone and challenged Uchiha Yi alone, getting one of his bodies destroyed. Now he was even weaker than in the original story and had no strength left to seize Sasuke's body.
After leaving, Sasuke soon formed Taka. Naruto, Kakashi, and the others reached the lake and discovered it had frozen solid. They had previously learned from Guren that this was the Three-Tails' lair.
Now, however, a massive hole gaped in the ice, and the Three-Tails was gone. Uchiha Yi hadn't taken it away. He had only extracted some of its source chakra; Obito had seized the beast itself.
Obito had controlled the Three-Tails before, even using it to control the Fourth Mizukage, Karatachi Yagura. He knew its movements inside out. His original plan had been to collect it after Hidan and Kakuzu captured the Two-Tails.
But Hidan and Kakuzu had died, the Two-Tails hadn't been captured, and the plan had been delayed. When Obito sensed something wrong with the Three-Tails, he rushed over immediately. Uchiha Yi noticed him coming too, and took the opportunity to deal Orochimaru one final blow and finish him off.
However, Uchiha Yi had slipped away before Obito arrived. He didn't want to see Obito right now. What would be the point? Beat him senseless? Then kill him?
When it came to collecting the tailed beasts, Uchiha Yi had his sights set on Kaguya Ōtsutsuki's Rinne Sharingan. He couldn't be bothered to interfere with the Akatsuki's plan. So when Obito arrived and saw the devastation, he was utterly baffled. What the hell happened here? Even as he took the Three-Tails away, he was still wondering.
Who attacked the Three-Tails, then just left it here? What were they playing at?
While Obito was left with a head full of questions, Uchiha Yi had already returned to Konoha.
He stopped by to tell Tsunade he was fine and that Naruto and the others would be back soon, then made himself scarce.
Rather than waste time here, he might as well go back and cuddle up to Hinata!
Hinata still hadn't woken up.
That made sense. He hadn't been gone long, and their activities had left her thoroughly exhausted. How could she wake up so soon?
Although watching Hinata sleep filled Uchiha Yi with contentment, looking for too long also stirred his desire. Afraid he might lose control and leave her unable to get out of bed for the entire day, he suppressed that heat and didn't dare linger.
Next, Uchiha Yi planned to find somewhere to settle the King-Tail's chakra.
All he needed to do now was create another Shadow Clone with ninety percent of his strength, pour the Three-Tails' chakra into it, and have it merge with the glowing ball of solar chakra at the Moon Palace. That would do the job. After all, merging with it would greatly speed up the growth of the chakra Three-Tails.
Unexpectedly, an uninvited guest arrived at his home just then-a little guest, at that. Hanabi Hyuga had come calling.
In the living room, Hanabi stared fixedly at Uchiha Yi. Only when her gaze had made his skin crawl did she speak.
"Where's my sister?" Hanabi asked.
"Sleeping," Uchiha Yi replied.
"Sleeping?" Her eyes widened. "Do you know what time it is? How could she still be asleep?"
Uchiha Yi looked a little awkward. "She... she's not feeling well."
Hanabi sprang to her feet. "No! If my sister's sick, I have to see her!"
Uchiha Yi's face went green. This girl wanted to see Hinata now? Wouldn't that embarrass Hinata to death? She was completely naked under those covers!
"Don't! Hinata's actually fine. It's just... she's still not quite ready to use the Tenseigan. She trained all day yesterday, used too much chakra, and wore herself out."
Having finally found an excuse, Uchiha Yi breathed a sigh of relief. These sisters were far closer than they had been in the original story, and Hanabi had long since learned that her sister possessed the Tenseigan.
Sure enough, the moment she heard "Tenseigan," Hanabi's attention shifted.
Her eyes lit up. "The Tenseigan? I want one too!"
She stared hard at Uchiha Yi.
Uchiha Yi was speechless. What could he possibly say?
After a long while without a response from him, Hanabi puffed up indignantly. "Hmph! Cheapskate! You're supposed to be my brother-in-law, but you won't even give me the Tenseigan!"
Seriously? Little troublemaker, do you think Tenseigan grow on trees? That I can just hand one over?
But on second thought, helping Hanabi awaken the Tenseigan might not be impossible!
Uchiha Yi suddenly remembered that Otsutsuki Toneri was still sealed inside his Flying Thunder God Space. If he borrowed Toneri's power, perhaps...
His hesitation surprised Hanabi. She had only been complaining to vent her frustration, but now it seemed there might actually be a chance.
Then she said something utterly jaw-dropping. "Does that mean I can awaken the Tenseigan too? Don't worry, as long as you help me, I don't mind doing those embarrassing things! Whatever my sister can do, I can do too!"
"Whatever my sister can do, I can do too!"
Holy shit! This is going to be a disaster!
Uchiha Yi instantly broke into a cold sweat and glanced around guiltily. Doing so with his eyes closed looked rather comical, though. Only then did Hanabi realize she might have said something outrageous. But she wasn't shy like Hinata, and she was stubborn to boot, so she simply kept staring straight at him.
Uchiha Yi coughed twice. "Well... it's not actually impossible."
Hanabi's eyes shone. "Ha! So you agree?" She immediately jumped up in excitement and ran toward the door. "Wait here! I'm going to tell my dad!"
Wait! What's going on? What did I just say? What... what did I agree to? Helping Hanabi awaken the Tenseigan, or...
Oh, crap! She's not going to tell her father what she just said, is she?
Uchiha Yi couldn't sit still any longer. If word got out and caused a misunderstanding, there would be serious trouble! Granted, the thought had flashed through his mind too. Fine, it had been more than a fleeting thought-just a tiny bit more.
He finally managed to stop Hanabi and spent ages gently reasoning with her, but it did no good whatsoever.
Hanabi had made up her mind: if she followed her sister's example and did those things with her brother-in-law, she could awaken the Tenseigan! Wasn't that how her sister had done it?
In the end, Uchiha Yi was completely out of options and could only go see his future father-in-law himself.
In a simple reception room belonging to the Hyuga Clan, only Hyuga Hiashi and Uchiha Yi were present. None of the three Elders were there, and Hanabi, the girl at the center of it all, was absent too. Afraid she might say something reckless, Uchiha Yi had found an excuse to send her away.
Hyuga Hiashi shot to his feet. "You're saying you have a way to give Hanabi the Tenseigan too?"
Hinata possessing the Tenseigan was one thing, but Hanabi had a chance as well? The Hyuga Clan hadn't managed anything like this in all these years!
Uchiha Yi nodded. "Yes. It'll be a little difficult, but it's not entirely impossible."
With a wave of his hand, Otsutsuki Toneri appeared, still unconscious as before.
"Who is this?" Hyuga Hiashi asked.
The last surviving member of the Ōtsutsuki Clan on the moon carried Hamura Otsutsuki's pure blood in his veins. Transferring that blood to Hanabi might allow her Byakugan to evolve straight into the Tenseigan.
Otsutsuki Toneri?
Hyuga Hiashi sprang to his feet, almost overturning his chair. Staring at Uchiha Yi, he asked in a slightly trembling voice, "You're saying you have a way to give Hanabi the Tenseigan too?"
Hinata already possessed the Tenseigan, but Hanabi could awaken it as well? This was a threshold the Hyuga Clan hadn't reached in hundreds of years!
Uchiha Yi nodded. "Yes. It'll be difficult, but it's not impossible."
He waved his hand, and the still-unconscious Otsutsuki Toneri appeared on the spot.
Hyuga Hiashi stared at the unconscious figure, his brows knitted tightly. "Who is this?"
"Will it be dangerous?"
"There's no risk."
"How confident are you?"
Uchiha Yi didn't dare promise anything. After hesitating for a while, he said, "Sixty or seventy percent."
"I see..."
Hyuga Hiashi stroked his chin and considered it for a long while. Then he suddenly looked up at Uchiha Yi, his tone leaving no room for argument. "In that case, Yi, Hanabi will be your fiancée from now on too. As for what you said earlier-"
Uchiha Yi froze on the spot. When did I say that? I wasn't even given a chance to speak! Did Hanabi say something ridiculous? No, I've been keeping an eye on her. She hasn't even had a chance to come near us, let alone shoot her mouth off!
Only then did Uchiha Yi realize that his normally stern, unsmiling father-in-law was actually a calculating old fox!
He had long since recognized how terrifyingly powerful Uchiha Yi was. By marrying both daughters to him, he could firmly tie the Main Family's legacy to Uchiha Yi. That was better than letting its line die out. Although the Hyuga Clan traditionally clung to the Main Family's rules, when the clan's survival was at stake, they didn't hesitate to adapt.
Uchiha Yi took a deep breath and stood, casually putting the still-unconscious Otsutsuki Toneri away.
The chance of success was only sixty or seventy percent, but now Uchiha Yi knew he had to give it his all for his little sister-in-law. Yes, for his... second wife? No, she had been his little sister-in-law just a moment ago. Why were his thoughts getting more and more off track? Forget it.
Before long, Uchiha Yi left the Hyuga Clan's grounds, with a little shadow skipping along behind him-Hanabi!
After learning she could awaken the Tenseigan, Hanabi was absolutely overjoyed. Even her steps had a spring in them.
