Uesugi Yuri froze, her voice faltering. "Yui... that's... that's how it is..."
Yui shook her head helplessly and considered it for a moment. "All right, then. Take me there."
With that, she stepped out of the room. She glanced back at Xiao You, who was still sound asleep, and shut the door firmly.
She intended to see just what Uesugi Io was up to.
Lowering her gaze to Yuri beside her, she prompted, "Yuri, let's go..."
"Huh?" Uesugi Yuri looked up as though something had dawned on her. She was a little puzzled. From Yui's reaction earlier, she had thought Yui would refuse. She hadn't expected her to agree.
Yet she couldn't muster the slightest joy. Instead, she felt uneasy.
She had no idea what her mother intended to do. She couldn't tell whether her mother was planning to do something bad to Yui.
Thinking back to her mother's expression when she gave her instructions that morning, she was certain her mother was hiding something from her.
And then there was last night's boxed meal. She was suspicious of that, too.
"Yui, are you really going to come with me?"
Yui nodded. "Of course. Didn't you say your mother needed some guidance with ninjutsu? I happen to have nothing to do right now, so I'll go with you!"
She discreetly tucked away the two Byakugan eyes in her hand, taking care with them. She had a vague sense that a mysterious connection had formed between her and those eyes.
She would have to wait until this business with Uesugi Io was settled before examining them more closely.
With a sigh, she headed outside.
