Ch. 1Sacrifice to the River God, a trash martial soul?

Plot points and events

  • In flood-isolated Black Snake Village, a River God demands human sacrifices twice a year in exchange for allowing villagers limited access to hunting. Those with soul power are selected; none has ever returned.
  • During the annual awakening ceremony, Zheng Qingqing gains a Unicorn martial soul with innate soul power level 8. Chen Zhuo awakens Blue-Eyed Three-Flower Pupils, an eye martial soul, with the rare maximum of level 10 innate soul power.
  • Su Yuntao recognizes Chen Zhuo’s extraordinary soul-power potential but dismisses his martial soul as useless. Chen himself remains composed, believing that martial-soul knowledge in this era is too undeveloped to appreciate its value.
  • Because both children qualify for sacrifice, village chief Zheng Xiu faces a terrible choice. Chen volunteers in Qingqing’s place, repaying the kindness Zheng’s family showed his own.
  • Chen is treated to a final meal and sent downriver in a flower-decorated boat. Su Yuntao regrets his inability to intervene and hopes Spirit Hall will discover the village’s plight.
  • Chen quietly frees himself from his bonds but does not attempt to escape, recognizing that the River God controls the water. The boat enters dense fog, stops in unnaturally still water, and Chen realizes the River God has arrived.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Zhuo is calm, perceptive, and self-sacrificing. His composure comes partly from being a transmigrator who possessed supernatural abilities in his previous life. He understands the danger but believes he cannot solve the crisis alone.
  • Zheng Xiu is torn between duty as village chief and concern for his family. He accepts Chen’s offer with guilt, while his wife insists Qingqing deserves to survive because she is a talented child.
  • Zheng Qingqing initially seems relieved that Chen will take her place, though her father’s slap and rebuke expose how deeply the sacrifice has strained the family.
  • Su Yuntao upholds the awakening ceremony as sacred, but his powerlessness against the River God leaves him frustrated and helpless.
  • The villagers’ care for Chen is expressed through the meal and send-off, even as fear and the hopeless history of past sacrifices weigh on them.

Significant themes

  • Sacrifice and gratitude: Chen risks his life to repay the village chief’s past kindness.
  • Powerlessness and survival: The villagers accept brutal customs because isolation and the River God leave them few options.
  • Misjudged potential: Chen’s unusual martial soul is dismissed as worthless, hinting that conventional understanding may be wrong.
  • Hope amid despair: Su Yuntao’s hoped-for rescue and the village’s expectation that Spirit Hall may eventually investigate offer only a fragile prospect of salvation.

Ch. 2Triple Jade-Green Snake Flower Pupils, Main God Space

Plot points and events

  • Chen Zhuo is offered to the river god, but recognizes that it is a serpent and uses his Triple Jade-Green Snake Flower Pupils to immobilize and control it.
  • The encounter returns him to the Main God Space, where he learns its main system is gone. Its remaining will cannot transport him between worlds, but retains its database and binds itself to him.
  • Chen Zhuo discovers he can exchange this world’s martial souls, creatures, treasures, and other valuables for points. His old points are lost, but as the system’s administrator he receives double value for future sacrifices.
  • The captured river god is identified as a nearly hundred-thousand-year-old Transforming Serpent. Rather than sacrifice it for its meager point value, Chen Zhuo uses his eyes to extract and convert its soul into a soul spirit.
  • The serpent willingly sacrifices itself, giving Chen Zhuo his first soul ring—a black one—and raising his soul power to level 12. Its remains also yield a rare, potentially evolving saber-shaped external soul bone.
  • Chen Zhuo redeems a Transforming Serpent genetic bloodline potion, beginning to strengthen his body.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Zhuo begins as someone who accepts death but still fights back. Once he realizes the serpent is vulnerable to his martial soul, he acts confidently and turns the threat to his advantage.
  • His memories reveal that he was previously a Main God Space participant who survived several worlds before dying in a mission involving Dou Sheng Qing Lin’s eyes. Those eyes have now become his martial soul, fused with this world’s laws.
  • Though wary of the Main God Space because it once enslaved him, Chen Zhuo relaxes after learning it can no longer send him on missions. He quickly shifts from distrust to treating it as a useful tool—and tries to bargain with it.
  • The Main God Space’s remaining will behaves like a limited but stubborn AI. It offers Chen Zhuo special administrator privileges, scans and captures the serpent, and helps him obtain and assess its rewards.
  • Chen Zhuo’s relationship with the Transforming Serpent is entirely one-sided: his eyes suppress its will, forcing it to become a soul spirit and sacrifice itself.

Significant themes

  • Power through knowledge and adaptation: Chen Zhuo survives by recognizing the serpent’s nature and exploiting the specific ability of his martial soul.
  • Freedom from coercion: The Main God Space’s loss of its world-travel function offers Chen Zhuo the possibility of a life without endless forced trials.
  • Pragmatic use of power: Chen Zhuo weighs the serpent’s low exchange value against its greater potential as a soul ring, soul bone, and potion source.
  • Reversal of status: Once prey, Chen Zhuo becomes the one in control; the serpent’s overwhelming strength is nullified by the specialized authority of his eyes.

Ch. 3Gene potion, a letter from headquarters

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Zhuo drinks a Transforming Serpent bloodline gene potion, enduring a painful purge that activates his first-stage gene lock and greatly improves his strength, reactions, and danger sense.
  • He realizes the gene-lock system can complement his martial-soul cultivation, potentially letting him absorb soul rings beyond normal age limits.
  • Returning to Black Snake Village, Chen Zhuo announces that the River God is dead. To convince the villagers, he reveals his unprecedented black, ten-thousand-year first soul ring and produces a giant serpent’s eye as evidence.
  • Su Yuntao accepts Chen Zhuo’s account and invites him to join the Spirit Hall. Chen agrees, recognizing that its protection and resources will help him develop and obtain ingredients for future potions.
  • The villagers test the River God’s disappearance by fishing beyond the old boundary and return safely. Zheng Xiu apologizes to Chen Zhuo for the sacrifice and gives him twenty Gold Soul Coins.
  • Chen Zhuo, Zheng Qingqing, and Su Yuntao travel to Nuoding City. Su reports their talents to his teacher, Ma Xiunuo, who offers them lodging and gives them valuable soul tools containing money.
  • After half a month, Ma receives an encrypted letter: Pope Bibi Dong herself has requested to meet Chen Zhuo and Zheng Qingqing.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Zhuo begins rebuilding his power, combining knowledge from his previous life with the martial-soul system. He is practical about accepting money and joining the Spirit Hall, treating both as useful support rather than obligations.
  • Su Yuntao shifts from helpless anxiety about Black Snake Village’s fate to hope when Chen returns and the River God’s threat appears ended. He recognizes Chen’s extraordinary value and sponsors him into the Spirit Hall.
  • Zheng Xiu shows remorse and concern for Chen, compensating him as best he can. Zheng Qingqing leaves the village with Chen and Su, though her mother is displeased and Qingqing herself acts pouty.
  • Ma Xiunuo carefully cultivates ties with the two promising youths, making a substantial personal investment in them. He is especially impressed by Zheng Qingqing’s sacred beast martial soul, while Chen Zhuo’s unusual body martial soul leaves him uncertain.
  • Chen’s unprecedented first soul ring shocks the villagers and Su Yuntao, establishing him as an exceptional talent and drawing attention from the Spirit Hall’s highest authority.

Significant themes

  • Self-directed growth and bodily potential: The gene-lock system emphasizes internal physical evolution and offers Chen a second route to power.
  • Opportunity emerging from crisis: The village’s desperate situation gives way to relief and new prospects once the River God disappears.
  • Patronage and strategic alliances: Chen and Zheng gain resources and protection through Spirit Hall connections, while Ma invests in their future potential.
  • Exceptional talent and uncertainty: Chen’s achievements attract powerful attention, but his rare martial soul is poorly understood, leaving his ultimate growth unpredictable.

Ch. 4Bibi Dong Takes a Disciple, a Fabricated Flaw

Plot points and events

  • Chen Zhuo and Zheng Qingqing reach Spirit City after a four-month journey. Their soul power has grown by two levels and one level, respectively.
  • Pope Bibi Dong summons them to assess their abilities. Chen Zhuo reveals his ten-thousand-year first soul ring, drawing surprise and praise from Bibi Dong and the two elders present.
  • To conceal the true nature of his unique martial soul, Chen Zhuo invents a limitation: he claims it cannot advance beyond the level of a seven-ring Soul Sage. Bibi Dong consequently decides he is not a suitable candidate to become her disciple.
  • A divine message from the Worship Hall orders Bibi Dong to take Zheng Qingqing as her disciple and grant her Holy Maiden privileges. Bibi Dong resents the command but complies. Zheng Qingqing accepts eagerly.
  • Both children enroll at Spirit City’s junior Soul Master Academy. Chen Zhuo avoids most challenges but defeats persistent opponents without using soul skills. His victories attract attention, including from older students.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Zhuo stays guarded and pragmatic, fabricating a weakness to protect the secret of his martial soul. He is indifferent to Zheng Qingqing’s sudden superiority and considers his obligation to her family repaid.
  • Zheng Qingqing is pleased to become Bibi Dong’s disciple, then openly looks down on Chen Zhuo, reversing her earlier talk of mutual support.
  • Bibi Dong recognizes Chen Zhuo’s exceptional gift but is deterred by his supposed limitation. She is also frustrated by the Worship Hall’s interference, yet accepts its order because she cannot oppose its powerful elders.
  • Chen Zhuo and the academy students interact through sparring challenges: he refuses unnecessary fights but easily handles those who persist.

Significant themes

  • Secrecy and self-preservation: Chen Zhuo controls what others learn about his abilities by inventing a convincing flaw.
  • Power and institutional politics: Bibi Dong’s authority is constrained by the Worship Hall, showing that even the Pope must yield to stronger forces.
  • Ambition and changing loyalty: Zheng Qingqing’s attitude shifts once she gains status, while Chen Zhuo remains detached.
  • Talent and privilege: Spirit Hall’s resources and influence shape the children’s opportunities, while its allowance system helps explain its broad support among Soul Masters.

Ch. 5Facing the Golden Generation, Man-Faced Calamity

Key plot points and events

  • The Spirit Hall Golden Generation—Hu Liena, Xie Yue, and Yan—confront Chen Zhuo at the academy gates after a teacher summons him.
  • Hu Liena tries to charm him, but Chen Zhuo’s Triple Jade-Green Snake Flower Pupils overpower her spiritual attack and make her nose bleed.
  • Enraged, Xie Yue attacks with his Moon Blade. Chen Zhuo uses his saber, Water Severer, to defend himself and easily handles Xie Yue’s close-range strikes.
  • Xie Yue then sends his Moon Blade flying at Chen Zhuo. Chen blocks it, puts away his saber, and triggers his first soul skill, leaving Xie Yue dizzy and vomiting.
  • Yan enters the fight with his Flame Lord martial soul, transforming the ground into magma and stone. Chen Zhuo is initially knocked back, but uses his unusual agility and Snake Form techniques to counterattack. Yan eventually calls a stop.
  • Chen reveals that his first soul skill is Man-Faced Calamity, which manipulates blood flow. He keeps its full potential secret: with sufficient power, it could cause fatal internal damage or make an opponent’s head burst.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Zhuo demonstrates confidence, combat skill, and tactical restraint. He avoids needless injury, uses an external soul bone as a weapon, and relies on his physical conditioning and martial arts when fighting Yan.
  • Hu Liena begins playfully and overconfidently, but her charm fails against Chen Zhuo’s eyes. She later approaches him with curiosity about his soul skill.
  • Xie Yue reacts fiercely when Hu Liena is hurt, but his aggression gives way to humiliation and physical distress after Chen’s counterattack.
  • Yan is initially ready to fight, yet stays alert to protect Chen from Xie Yue’s weapon. After testing Chen in combat, he acknowledges the younger man and accepts the halt.
  • The trio’s exchanges with Chen shift from confrontation to cautious respect, while the gathered students turn the clash into a public spectacle.

Significant themes

  • Hidden strength and restraint: Chen’s displayed ability is formidable, but he conceals how lethal his soul skill can become.
  • Combat knowledge beyond supernatural powers: Chen’s martial arts and physical training give him an edge in a world where fighters often rely mainly on martial souls and soul skills.
  • Public reputation and rivalry: The crowd’s reactions, Yan’s concern for his dignity, and the Golden Generation’s scrutiny frame the fight as both a test of ability and a social spectacle.
  • Danger beneath appearances: Chen’s striking green eyes and seemingly limited soul skill conceal a potentially devastating power.

Ch. 6Level 20 Soul Power, a journey to Heaven Dou

Plot points

  • After defeating the academy’s upperclassmen, Chen Zhuo shares a meal with Spirit Hall’s Golden Generation: Hu Liena, Xie Yue, and Yan. They offer to help him skip grades if needed, and Chen Zhuo welcomes their friendship.
  • Hu Liena asks about Chen Zhuo’s connection to Zheng Qingqing, her potential rival for Bibi Dong’s favor. Chen says he knows Zheng Qingqing’s father but not Zheng Qingqing herself.
  • Once the Golden Generation leave, Chen Zhuo returns to his routine of classes and cultivation. During vacation, he uses an eighty-year-old “Angry Sun Chicken” to make a bloodline potion, then practices Chicken-Form Fist, gaining greater confidence in combat.
  • Two years later, Chen Zhuo reaches Soul Power level 20 and achieves major mastery of Snake-Form Fist. To advance, he needs a second soul ring, but rejects the ordinary options—and even the possibility of another ten-thousand-year snake ring.
  • Chen tells Dean Su Rou he is visiting relatives in the Heaven Dou Empire. She gives him a token bearing the character “Nine” for protection. His real purpose is to pursue an unusual plan for obtaining a soul ring, based on a new understanding of his martial soul.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Zhuo forms an easygoing friendship with Hu Liena, Xie Yue, and Yan. Xie Yue offers practical support, while Yan’s blunt, casual manner contrasts with Hu Liena’s strategic thinking.
  • Hu Liena sees Chen Zhuo as a useful ally rather than a rival, believing his martial-soul defect limits the threat he poses. She is also wary of Zheng Qingqing’s arrival and probes Chen’s ties to her.
  • Chen Zhuo understands Hu Liena’s ambitions but considers them far less important than his own goal of becoming a god.
  • Su Rou shows concern and generosity, giving Chen a token that suggests she has influential backing within Spirit Hall. Chen remains grateful but keeps the details of his plan to himself.

Significant themes

  • Ambition and perspective: Hu Liena seeks status and power within Spirit Hall, while Chen Zhuo pursues a much greater, godlike goal.
  • Friendship and calculation: Genuine camaraderie coexists with political maneuvering, especially in Hu Liena’s approach to Chen.
  • Self-reliance and risk: Chen rejects conventional advancement and sets out to test a bold theory, accepting uncertainty in pursuit of greater strength.

Ch. 7To See Me Is to See a God, the Second Soul Skill

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Zhuo visits Dugu Manor and gives its gatekeeper a cryptic message about immortal herbs for Dugu Bo. Intrigued, Dugu Bo tracks him down at the Good Fortune Inn.
  • Chen Zhuo’s emerald eyes overwhelm Dugu Bo, who kneels and becomes completely devoted to him. Dugu Bo’s uncontrolled release of his martial soul and power briefly threatens people nearby.
  • Chen Zhuo freezes time across the surrounding area, revealing that he has copied Dugu Bo’s Time Freeze Soul Skill as his second Ten Thousand Year Soul Ring. His supernatural eyes can control serpents and, through that control, permanently acquire their Soul Skills.
  • Chen Zhuo decides to pursue the control-system path, relying on his gene-lock abilities to make up for its weaker attack power. He takes Dugu Bo to his manor, then sets out with Dugu Bo and Dugu Yan for Sunset Forest and its legendary immortal herbs.
  • Dugu Yan is summoned home from a visit with Ye Lingling. There she meets Chen Zhuo and, like her grandfather, falls under the influence of his eyes and accepts him with fervent devotion. The family presents him publicly as its young master, while the city’s nobles begin seeking information about him.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Zhuo demonstrates both the coercive power of his eyes and a new means of expanding his abilities. He shifts from testing his power to establishing himself within the Dugu family.
  • Dugu Bo changes from a powerful, independent Titled Douluo into Chen Zhuo’s obedient servant. He introduces Chen Zhuo as the family’s master and has Dugu Yan return home.
  • Dugu Yan begins worried about a possible threat from Spirit Hall, but her concern disappears when she meets Chen Zhuo; she becomes even more devoted to him than Dugu Bo.
  • Ye Lingling responds thoughtfully to Dugu Yan’s worries, arranging transport and escorts rather than pressing her to stay.
  • Chen Zhuo treats the gatekeeper with relative patience, paying him to deliver his message, while the gatekeeper’s initial arrogance gives way to uncertainty and caution.

Significant themes

  • Power and submission: Chen Zhuo’s supernatural gaze turns even formidable figures into followers.
  • Acquiring power through control: His ability to dominate serpentine beings also lets him take their Soul Skills, making control both a combat specialty and a route to advancement.
  • Appearance versus reality: The Dugu family offers a convenient public explanation for the extraordinary incident, while the truth of Chen Zhuo’s influence remains hidden.
  • Ambition and opportunity: Chen Zhuo’s new Soul Skill and alliance with the Dugu family position him for further growth—and for the journey to the coveted immortal herbs.

Ch. 8A Cure for the Chronic Affliction, a Gift of Bone

Plot points and events

  • Chen Zhuo brings Dugu Bo and Dugu Yan through Sunset Forest to Dugu Bo’s secluded cultivation ground, where a strange pool marks the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well.
  • Chen identifies two nearby immortal herbs—Infernal Delicate Apricot and Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass—that can neutralize the serpent poison harming Dugu Bo and his family. However, this cure would also destroy his poison cultivation, costing him most of his strength.
  • Chen offers a second approach: use a Soul Bone to contain the poison. It would preserve Dugu Bo’s cultivation but only manage the symptoms, since new poison would continue to form.
  • Chen explains that a rare External Soul Bone, ideally one with a scorpion-like tail, could make this method viable. He then gives Dugu Bo his own ninety-thousand-year Transforming Serpent External Soul Bone, Water Severer, and promises to teach him a saber-control technique. He also plans to find him an immortal herb.

Character developments and interactions

  • Dugu Bo’s excitement at the prospect of a cure turns to anguish when he learns the simplest remedy would erase the poison that defines his power. He considers accepting the riskier, temporary treatment instead.
  • Dugu Yan worries that her grandfather will die young like her father. She considers urging him to give up his poison cultivation, but cannot bring herself to say it.
  • Chen Zhuo balances practical advice with striking generosity. He recognizes Dugu Bo’s dilemma and offers a rare Soul Bone rather than forcing him to choose between his life and his strength.
  • Dugu Bo’s trust and respect for Chen deepen; he begins addressing him as “young master.” Chen accepts the title.

Significant themes

  • The cost of survival: The safest cure demands the loss of Dugu Bo’s hard-won power, while preserving it means accepting a dangerous cycle.
  • Inherited suffering and family responsibility: Dugu Bo’s illness is tied to the Dugu family’s tragedy, and Dugu Yan fears its consequences.
  • Trust and generosity: Chen uses his knowledge and sacrifices a valuable possession to give Dugu Bo a way forward.
  • Treatment versus cure: The Soul Bone solution offers relief but not a permanent answer, distinguishing symptom management from resolving the underlying flaw.

Ch. 9Super Douluo Dugu Bo, the Red-and-Blue Potion

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Zhuo finds a primordial immortal herb and has Dugu Bo consume it, guiding him to purge the Jade Phosphorous Serpent poison and condense a soul core.
  • Dugu Bo’s poison and old Poison Core battle the herb’s primordial essence. His Poison Core breaks apart, then reforms into a jade-and-gold serpent-shaped soul core. The new core purifies and strengthens his Soul Power, raising him from level 92 to level 95.
  • Dugu Bo also fully masters Water Severer as an external soul bone. His chronic poisoning vanishes, his appearance rejuvenates, and his bearing becomes calmer and more imposing. He gratefully credits Chen Zhuo, who sees the breakthrough as both a personal boon and the creation of the first soul core on the Douluo Plane.
  • Chen Zhuo gives Dugu Yan an earth dragon golden melon. With Dugu Bo’s support, she accepts the uncertain transformation. Her Jade Phosphorous Serpent evolves into the Jade-Phosphorus Poison Jiao, gaining a water attribute while retaining poison and fire; her Soul Power rises from level 26 to 30.
  • Chen Zhuo explains that the melon can grow again, so the Dugu family’s descendants may have a way to overcome the serpent poison. He then uses the Main God Space to collect the infernal delicate apricot and octagonal mysterious ice grass, producing red and blue tier-three potions.

Character development and interactions

  • Dugu Bo moves from a powerful but poison-afflicted elder toward renewed health and greater strength. His gratitude to Chen Zhuo is profound, and he encourages Dugu Yan to choose her own path rather than inherit his family’s suffering.
  • Dugu Yan begins stunned by her grandfather’s transformation, then accepts the risk of changing her Martial Soul. Her evolution offers her a stronger future and a possible remedy for the family’s curse.
  • Chen Zhuo acts as healer, mentor, and benefactor, while also strengthening his own position through Dugu Bo’s new loyalty and power.
  • The Dugu family’s exchanges are marked by trust: Dugu Bo urges Yan to proceed without fear for him or their legacy, and Chen Zhuo reassures them that the family’s future is not lost.

Significant themes

  • Transformation and renewal: The herb reshapes Dugu Bo’s body, cultivation, and life prospects; the melon transforms Yan’s Martial Soul.
  • Breaking inherited suffering: The family’s serpent poison, once a fatal legacy, may now be manageable for future generations.
  • Trust and gratitude: Dugu Bo’s and Yan’s willingness to follow Chen Zhuo’s guidance drives their breakthroughs.
  • Cultivation innovation: The soul core represents a new method of advancement, while the final potion-making signals Chen Zhuo’s own next step.

Ch. 10Water-Fire Body Tempering, a Pouch Full of Immortal Herbs

Plot points and events

  • Chen Zhuo swallows a potion made from infernal delicate apricot and octagonal mysterious ice grass, then endures three days and nights of painful alternating cold and heat in the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. He emerges with a body resistant to poison, water, and fire—but not their ultimate forms.
  • He uses Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew to strengthen his eyesight and mental power, reaching the Spirit Sea Realm, comparable to a Soul King’s mental strength.
  • Chen Zhuo gives Dugu Yan potions to help unlock her genetic potential, including an ultimate-fire potion and a mental-strength potion. He takes Dugu Bo’s Wishful Hundred-Treasure Pouch and claims the bonded Nine-Section Jade snake as a pet.
  • He gathers more than a dozen valuable immortal herbs, including singular velvet sky chrysanthemum and eight-petal immortal orchid, along with several other rare plants. He reflects that such herbs helped the Shrek Seven Devils build their foundations.
  • Before the group leaves the garden, Dugu Bo strengthens its defenses, treating the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well as the future foundation of the Dugu Family. Chen Zhuo plans to seek further opportunities in Sunset Forest, including a new Soul Ring for Dugu Yan.

Character development and interactions

  • Chen Zhuo’s willingness to endure extreme pain reflects his discipline and ambition. He is selective about power, refusing ultimate ice and fire attributes because they do not suit his Martial Soul.
  • Dugu Yan teases Chen Zhuo but is delighted by his gifts and grateful for his support.
  • Dugu Bo is deeply loyal and eager to please Chen Zhuo, readily handing over his family heirloom and accepting Chen Zhuo’s claim on the snake. He also grows more protective and forward-looking about his family’s future.

Significant themes

  • Power requires sacrifice: Chen Zhuo’s transformation comes through prolonged suffering and self-control.
  • Success depends on opportunity as well as talent and effort: The rare herbs are portrayed as crucial advantages, making extraordinary achievements difficult to reproduce.
  • Pragmatism over greed: Chen Zhuo chooses powers that complement his abilities rather than pursuing every possible enhancement.
  • Legacy and security: Dugu Bo’s new defenses mark the garden’s shift from a private refuge into the prospective cradle of the Dugu Family’s rise.

Ch. 11Training complete, buy up all the whale rubber

Key plot points and events

  • Chen Zhuo, Dugu Bo, and Dugu Yan confront the seventy-thousand-year White-Eyed Demon Tiger King in Sunset Forest. Dugu Bo shields the younger two and petrifies the beast’s attack, but Chen Zhuo kills the tiger while Dugu Bo has it frozen.
  • The tiger leaves behind a high-quality right arm bone. Chen Zhuo tells Dugu Bo to sell it for Gold Soul Coins and use the money to buy all available ten-thousand-year whale glue, rather than keep the treasure.
  • Chen Zhuo explains that whale glue can strengthen a soul master’s constitution and raise the safe age limit for their first four soul rings. Dugu Bo and Dugu Yan are astonished by the discovery.
  • Dugu Yan absorbs a roughly two-thousand-year Split-Head Viper soul ring as her third ring, exceeding the limit proposed by Yu Xiaogang’s “Ten Great Martial Soul Theories.”
  • The trio travels west to hunt Wolf Bandits—human-wolf hybrids who prey on villages. Chen Zhuo and Dugu Yan fight the gang, while Dugu Bo kills its near-Soul-Sage leader.
  • The leader drops a thirty-thousand-year right leg bone, which Chen Zhuo gives to Dugu Yan to help her overcome her martial soul’s limitations and advance her cultivation.
  • With training finished and school about to begin, Chen Zhuo prepares to leave. Before parting, he asks Dugu Bo to obtain something from the Speed Clan, one of the Clear Sky Sect’s former subordinate clans.

Character developments

  • Chen Zhuo displays overwhelming power and strategic foresight. He values wealth as a means to establish a commercial monopoly, and treats rare soul bones as resources to trade or use for Dugu Yan’s growth.
  • Dugu Bo shows how protective he is of Dugu Yan and Chen Zhuo, using his strongest techniques immediately. He is also surprised by Chen Zhuo’s unconventional plans and new knowledge.
  • Dugu Yan becomes more confident as she advances beyond conventional soul-ring limits. The immortal herb, Chen Zhuo’s guidance, and the new soul bone give her hope of breaking through her martial soul’s weakness.

Significant themes

  • Knowledge overturns convention: Chen Zhuo’s understanding of whale glue challenges established assumptions about soul-ring limits and training.
  • Power and resourcefulness: Combat strength matters, but so do money, rare materials, and the ability to recognize their future value.
  • Growth through support: Dugu Yan’s potential improves through guidance, cultivation resources, and the people who protect and encourage her.
  • Violence against predation: The Wolf Bandits’ brutality prompts Chen Zhuo’s decisive, ruthless response.

Character interactions

  • Dugu Bo protects Chen Zhuo and Dugu Yan during the tiger fight, while Chen Zhuo calmly kills the beast and then directs how its soul bone should be used.
  • Dugu Yan misreads Chen Zhuo’s interest in whale glue as something salacious; he corrects her, revealing its cultivation benefits.
  • Chen Zhuo advises Dugu Yan to seek soul beasts with dragon blood in the future and gives her the Wolf Bandit leader’s soul bone.
  • Before they part, Chen Zhuo relies on Dugu Bo to carry out a new task: acquiring an item from the Speed Clan.

Ch. 12Early Graduation, an Academy-Wide Sensation

Plot points and events

  • Chen Zhuo returns to Spirit Hall’s Junior Soul Master Academy a week late after obtaining his second soul ring. Headmistress Su Rou scolds him, then demands to see what he gained from the trip.
  • Chen reveals two black, ten-thousand-year soul rings, astonishing Su Rou. He claims the Dugu family had a rare Medusa in its possession and credits his grandfather, Dugu Bo, for the ring. Su Rou is also surprised that Chen’s soul power has risen from level twenty to twenty-four.
  • After apologizing to his teachers, Chen resumes academy life. Dugu Bo later reports that the Star Luo Imperial Family bought a seventy-thousand-year White-Eyed Demon Tiger King soul bone for 100 million Gold Soul Coins. Chen uses his new wealth to seek rare beasts for his gene elixirs, though a suitable dragon-blood soul beast remains out of reach.
  • Two years pass. At age ten, Chen reaches level thirty and asks Su Rou to let him graduate early. She arranges a demanding assessment: he must pass seven written subjects and fight seven two-ring Soul Grandmasters alone. His written results are all A+.
  • Word of the assessment spreads across Spirit City, drawing students from the Advanced Academy and even Pope Bibi Dong to watch.

Character developments

  • Chen Zhuo displays extraordinary power, confidence, and a playful talent for misleading others. He advances rapidly, builds on his wealth to pursue his research, and feels ready to move beyond junior academy.
  • Su Rou shifts from anger and concern to shock and reluctant admiration. She values Chen both personally and as a source of prestige for her academy, and tries to make early graduation difficult.
  • Dugu Bo remains an influential presence through his family resources, his role in Chen’s soul-ring story, and the money gained from the soul-bone sale.
  • Bibi Dong’s appearance signals that Chen’s unusual graduation challenge has become an event of exceptional importance.

Significant themes

  • Exceptional talent versus established limits: Chen’s ten-thousand-year rings and rapid growth defy accepted expectations.
  • Ambition and independence: He pursues his own studies and goals rather than remaining at the academy for its benefits.
  • Wealth as power: The soul-bone sale funds Chen’s efforts to acquire rare materials.
  • Reputation and spectacle: Chen’s achievements benefit the academy’s image, while his assessment becomes a citywide sensation.

Character interactions

  • Su Rou reprimands Chen for being late, questions his story, and reacts with disbelief to his rings and level.
  • Chen placates her with apologies and a partly fabricated account that shifts responsibility to Dugu Bo.
  • When Chen requests early graduation, Su Rou attempts to deter him with strict conditions, then sets a punishing team battle—only for Chen to accept without hesitation.
  • Chen’s challenge draws the attention of students and the city’s highest authority, turning a personal graduation request into a public spectacle.

Ch. 13One against Seven, the Golden Quartet

Key plot points and events

  • An irregular one-versus-seven match draws a large crowd because Pope Bibi Dong is attending. Chen Zhuo faces a hastily assembled squad of seven young Spirit Hall fighters, including level-thirty-one captain Sun Chuantao.
  • Chen Zhuo reveals two black, ten-thousand-year soul rings, stunning the spectators and catching his opponents off guard.
  • The squad deploys a disciplined formation with defense, control, attack, and support roles. But Chen Zhuo stops their opening moves without visibly activating a soul skill, then uses his second soul skill to immobilize all seven.
  • He breaks through the defender’s shield and defeats each opponent with one punch. Even Sun Chuantao never gets a chance to attack.
  • Bibi Dong recognizes Chen Zhuo’s exceptional spiritual power and strength, declares him eligible for early graduation, and assigns him to train with her disciple Hu Liena.

Character developments

  • Chen Zhuo establishes himself as an extraordinary young fighter, revealing a level of power that surpasses the expectations of the Spirit Hall audience and sets a new record for rapid advancement.
  • Bibi Dong shifts from barely remembering Chen Zhuo to recognizing his value. Her interest is pragmatic: she sees him as a useful asset and, especially, a potential aid to Hu Liena.
  • Hu Liena is delighted that Bibi Dong has acknowledged Chen Zhuo and welcomes him into her special training.
  • Zheng Qingqing, who had expected Chen Zhuo to embarrass himself, is forced to witness his overwhelming victory. She still believes her own path and mentors will make her formidable, but the match exposes how far ahead Chen Zhuo already is.
  • Sun Chuantao and his teammates go from confidence in their formation to stunned defeat.

Significant themes

  • Exceptional talent and ambition: Chen Zhuo’s unusual abilities overturn assumptions about age, rank, and what is possible.
  • Power versus preparation: The seven demonstrate teamwork and disciplined tactics, yet Chen Zhuo’s immense advantage makes their coordination insufficient.
  • Recognition and utility: Bibi Dong’s praise comes with a strategic motive; she values Chen Zhuo not only as a prodigy but as a resource for her plans.
  • Public reputation: The match transforms Chen Zhuo into a rising star before Spirit Hall’s watching crowd.

Character interactions

  • The seven coordinate closely under Sun Chuantao, combining defense, control, attacks, and support, but Chen Zhuo disables them before they can execute their plan.
  • Zheng Qingqing watches with skepticism and pressure, while the Golden Generation—Xie Yue, Hu Liena, and Yan—quietly support Chen Zhuo.
  • Chrysanthemum Douluo identifies Chen Zhuo’s technique as resembling the signature ability of Dugu Bo, connecting the boy’s power to his family background.
  • Bibi Dong orders Hu Liena to include Chen Zhuo in her special training; Hu Liena eagerly accepts, marking the formation of a new four-person group.

Ch. 14A Letter of Recommendation, Crystal Blood Dragon Ginseng

Plot and key events

  • Chen Zhuo asks Dean Su Rou for a recommendation to attend the advanced Soul Master Academy in Heaven Dou rather than pursue a future at Spirit Hall headquarters. He says it is a secret mission, though he also wants to develop away from Spirit City.
  • Bibi Dong is annoyed by his decision but permits it, convinced he will eventually recognize Spirit Hall’s superiority. She dismisses his plan to recruit Dugu Bo, unaware that Dugu Bo has grown to level 95 and become a Super Douluo.
  • Su Rou writes the recommendation and offers to help Chen Zhuo if he needs anything. He leaves on warm terms with her and shares a farewell toast with Hu Liena, Yan, and Xie Yue, who trade friendly challenges and promises to meet again.
  • A chest containing 10,000 Gold Soul Coins arrives for village chief Zheng Xiu. Chen Zhuo has sent it in repayment for the 20 coins Zheng once lent him.
  • Back at Dugu Manor, Dugu Bo reports that he has gathered more than 300 pieces of ten-thousand-year whale glue and obtained the Speed Clan’s heirloom, crystal blood dragon ginseng, for Chen Zhuo.
  • Dugu Bo explains that his attempt to negotiate with the Speed Clan ended in disaster: the clan was wiped out, and only chief Bai He and his granddaughter Bai Chenxiang escaped. Bai He was poisoned and is expected to die; Bai Chenxiang is under the Breaking Clan’s protection. Chen Zhuo decides not to pursue them.
  • Chen Zhuo, now at soul-power level 30, plans to obtain his third Soul Ring before enrolling at the academy, and calls Dugu Bo and Dugu Yan to go with him.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Zhuo confidently chooses his own path, repays an old kindness generously, and remains pragmatic about the Speed Clan’s fate. His friendship with the Golden Generation and affection for Su Rou are clear.
  • Su Rou shows genuine care for Chen Zhuo, acting as a supportive mentor despite his departure.
  • Bibi Dong remains dismissive and controlling, underestimating both Chen Zhuo’s plans and Dugu Bo’s current strength.
  • Dugu Bo has become far stronger, but his mission to acquire the ginseng led to an unintended massacre and public gossip about his whale-glue purchases. He is embarrassed and admits the outcome to Chen Zhuo.
  • Hu Liena, Yan, and Xie Yue part from Chen Zhuo as friends, expressing confidence in their future growth and looking forward to meeting and competing again.
  • Dugu Yan, now seventeen and level 37, reunites with Chen Zhuo after more than two years.

Significant themes

  • Self-determination: Chen Zhuo rejects the path Spirit Hall expects him to follow.
  • Loyalty and gratitude: Su Rou’s mentorship, the Golden Generation’s friendship, and Chen Zhuo’s repayment to Zheng Xiu show the value of personal bonds.
  • Power and misjudgment: Bibi Dong underestimates Dugu Bo, while Chen Zhuo’s growing influence is not yet fully recognized.
  • Consequences of ambition: Dugu Bo’s resource-gathering mission spirals into the destruction of the Speed Clan, even though he claims he intended no violence.

Ch. 15Dragon Duke and Snake Granny, Another Gift of Immortal Herbs

Key plot points and events

  • Dugu Bo explains why his clash with Speed Clan patriarch Bai He ended in a raid: Bai He had provoked him, and Dugu Bo took the clan’s supplies and Bai He’s storage ring. The haul was nearly worthless because Bai He had denied his own clansmen their monthly allowance while invoking the Clear Sky Sect, whose inner circle remained wealthy.
  • Chen Zhuo and his companions visit the Meng estate. Snake Granny Chao Tianxiang eagerly welcomes Chen, whom she regards as the descendant of a benefactor; her husband, Dragon Duke Meng Shu, is confused by this supposed connection.
  • Chen copies Snake Granny’s sixth Soul Skill, Netherdark Death Ray, from her twenty-thousand-year-old Soul Ring. Its powerful piercing attack can also finish off weakened opponents. He fixes it as his third Soul Ring, and the addition raises his soul power by a level.
  • The Dragon Duke asks Chen’s age and is astonished to learn that he is only ten, yet already a rank-thirty-one Soul Elder. Chen bluntly calls the Meng family’s cultivation progress unimpressive, pointing out that Meng Yiran is only rank twenty at thirteen.
  • Claiming he has come to help the family, Chen presents three jade boxes containing Immortal Herbs. Snake Granny consumes an Eight-Petal Immortal Orchid and immediately rises from rank sixty-six to rank seventy, reaching the threshold of Soul Saint.

Character developments and interactions

  • Dugu Bo shows relief that Chen does not blame him for the failed mission, while recounting his disbelief at the Speed Clan’s poverty and Bai He’s treatment of his followers.
  • Chen Zhuo demonstrates his unusual ability to acquire a Soul Skill and add it as a Soul Ring, as well as his confidence and sharp, tactless way of speaking. His criticism shocks the Meng family, but his gift proves that he intends to offer real help.
  • Snake Granny is warmly devoted to Chen and trusts him enough to take the herb immediately.
  • Dragon Duke shifts from bafflement about his wife’s connection to Chen to astonishment at Chen’s age, breakthrough, and the herb’s extraordinary effect.
  • Meng Yiran is implicitly compared with Chen: despite being three years older and considered talented, she has progressed much more slowly.

Significant themes

  • Loyalty and exploitation: Bai He’s appeals to the Clear Sky Sect ring hollow beside his deprivation of the Speed Clan’s members, exposing the gap between lofty ideals and care for one’s followers.
  • Exceptional talent and unequal progress: Chen’s age and rapid advancement unsettle conventional measures of Soul Master growth.
  • Power and opportunity: Chen’s copied Soul Skill and the Immortal Herb show how access to unusual abilities and resources can transform a cultivator’s prospects.

Ch. 16Dragon-Snake Scepter, Great Soul Arena

Plot points and events

  • Chen Zhuo gives the members of the Meng family carefully chosen immortal herbs. Snake Granny’s Eight-Petal Immortal Orchid raises her soul power by four levels, though she remains at the threshold before becoming a Soul Saint.
  • Dragon Duke takes Dragon Immortal Ganoderma. His soul power rises from level 86 to 89, and the herb strengthens his Dragon Staff martial soul’s latent silver-dragon bloodline, making a future breakthrough to Titled Douluo possible.
  • Meng Yiran takes Ink Jade Divine Bamboo. Her cane martial soul mutates into the two-headed Dragon-Snake Scepter, and her soul power increases by six levels.
  • Impressed and grateful, Dragon Duke calls Chen Zhuo his “benefactor” and leaves Meng Yiran in his care while he and Snake Granny travel to obtain Snake Granny’s seventh soul ring.
  • Back in Heaven Dou City, Chen Zhuo takes Dugu Yan and Meng Yiran to register at the Great Soul Arena. He disguises his age and soul-ring configuration, registering under the codename “Demon Eye”; Dugu Yan is “Poisonous Flood Dragon,” and Meng Yiran is “Dragon Snake.”
  • Chen Zhuo sets demanding advancement goals: Dugu Yan must earn a silver badge within a year and gold within two; Meng Yiran must earn bronze within a year and silver within two. Because losses erase accumulated progress and later opponents become much stronger, the targets require long winning streaks.
  • The three enter solo matches and clear the initial five-win qualifying requirement. Chen Zhuo wins easily, and Dugu Yan dominates with her poison and powerful martial soul. Meng Yiran struggles while adjusting to her new weapon, but qualifies.

Character developments and interactions

  • Dragon Duke and Snake Granny become more indebted to Chen Zhuo, entrusting Meng Yiran’s training to him.
  • Dragon Duke gains renewed hope of reaching Titled Douluo after years of believing his talent had capped his potential.
  • Meng Yiran gains a powerful martial-soul mutation and rapid growth, but still needs to master its fighting style. Under Chen Zhuo’s influence, she is completely obedient and eager to follow his instructions.
  • Dugu Yan is already a capable fighter, but is dismayed by Chen Zhuo’s strict badge targets and the arena’s punishing rules.
  • Chen Zhuo plans to develop Dugu Yan and Meng Yiran as his “red-flower enforcers.” He sees their potential and is determined to strengthen them through combat, potions, and further training.

Significant themes

  • Potential over raw cultivation: The herbs’ greatest value is improving aptitude and martial-soul quality, not merely increasing soul power.
  • Training through practical combat: Arena battles are presented as essential to a Soul Master’s growth, beyond secluded cultivation.
  • Ambition and pressure: Chen Zhuo’s demanding goals push his students toward rapid advancement, while the arena’s win-streak system makes failure costly.
  • Talent can be transformed: Dragon Duke’s renewed prospects and Meng Yiran’s mutation show how rare opportunities can overturn apparent limits.

Ch. 17Tang San, Kill Xiao Wu

Plot points and events

  • Over the course of two years, Chen Zhuo focuses on cultivation and the Great Soul Arena while arranging for Dragon Duke and Snake Granny to obtain ten-thousand-year whale glue. Dugu Yan and Meng Yiran use it, make major progress, and reach levels 40 and 30 respectively.
  • Chen Zhuo, Dugu Bo, and the Dragon-Snake pair compete as a three-person team. They win 38 consecutive matches, including a victory over a team led by a Soul Emperor, and earn Purple-Gold Badges. Chen Zhuo postpones the girls’ soul-ring hunts until the holidays and plans to seek dragon-type soul beasts and dragon-blood potion.
  • Tang San returns to Holy Soul Village after graduating, hoping to see his father, but finds only a note saying Tang Hao has left. Xiao Wu comforts him. As they grow closer, she asks what he would do if powerful people came to kill her; Tang San vows they would have to kill him first.
  • A cloaked stranger appears and kills Xiao Wu instantly, leaving Tang San unconscious with her headless body.
  • At a waterfall near the village, Dugu Bo finds the hidden cave Chen Zhuo described. He takes a hundred-thousand-year Blue Silver Emperor right-leg bone and a neglected stalk of Blue Silver Grass, then removes traces of his visit.
  • The group reunites, and Dugu Bo discovers Dragon Duke has reached level 92 and acquired a hundred-thousand-year red soul ring. Dragon Duke credits Chen Zhuo for his transformation. He asks whether they should also kill Tang San, given Xiao Wu’s connection to him and Tang Hao’s reputation; the chapter ends before Chen Zhuo answers.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Zhuo emerges as a strategic organizer, advancing his allies while pursuing greater power and seeking a formidable ally.
  • Dugu Yan and Meng Yiran mature through demanding training and achieve major cultivation milestones.
  • Dragon Duke gains extraordinary strength but remains grateful to Chen Zhuo and cautious of Tang Hao.
  • Tang San and Xiao Wu share a tender, increasingly romantic moment, abruptly shattered by Xiao Wu’s murder.
  • Dugu Bo carries out Chen Zhuo’s plan and is astonished by Dragon Duke’s new power.

Significant themes

  • Power and ambition: cultivation, rare resources, and soul rings drive the characters’ plans.
  • Loyalty and gratitude: Chen Zhuo’s support transforms Dragon Duke, who acknowledges his debt.
  • Love and protection: Tang San’s promise to defend Xiao Wu makes her sudden death especially devastating.
  • Concealed identities and dangerous knowledge: Xiao Wu’s secret and the hidden cave’s treasures place affection and discovery alongside mortal risk.

Ch. 18Absorbing Hundred Thousand Year Soul Bones, Snake Lance Douluo

Plot points and events

  • Chen Zhuo reflects that he avoided killing Tang San because he is wary of the plane’s “chosen ones.” He nevertheless took Xiao Wu’s hundred-thousand-year soul ring for the Dragon Duke and claims two soul bones from the encounter.
  • Tang San wakes to find Xiao Wu gone and, without recognizing her remains, destroys the headless rabbit’s corpse in his grief. His Blue Silver Grass mutates into Dark Blue Silver Grass, growing more powerful but taking on a corrupting, evil quality.
  • At Dugu Manor, Chen Zhuo absorbs the Blue Silver Emperor right leg bone and Xiao Wu’s Soft Bone Rabbit right arm bone. He gains flight, limb regeneration, short-range teleportation, and a three-use-per-day “Invincible Golden Body.” His soul power rises from level 39 to the level 40 threshold.
  • Confident in his new strength, Chen Zhuo turns toward his next goal: obtaining a fourth soul ring from She Long, the level-92 Snake Lance Douluo, who is secretly serving as Qian Renxue’s bodyguard inside the Heaven Dou Imperial Palace.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Zhuo becomes markedly more powerful and self-assured. He justifies taking Xiao Wu’s ring and the soul bones as strategic gains, and condemns Tang Hao and Ah Yin for the harm he believes they caused soul beasts and the Clear Sky Sect.
  • Tang San is devastated by Xiao Wu’s disappearance. His uncontrolled grief triggers a dangerous mutation in his martial soul, pushing him toward the path of an evil soul master.
  • Dugu Bo assists Chen Zhuo by guarding his room and retrieving the Blue Silver Grass left after Ah Yin’s sacrifice.
  • She Long is introduced as Chen Zhuo’s intended target for his next soul ring; his hidden role protecting Qian Renxue sets up a future confrontation.

Significant themes

  • Power and its price: Chen Zhuo’s extraordinary gains contrast with Tang San’s loss and corruption.
  • Fate and opportunism: Chen Zhuo acts cautiously around possible “children of destiny,” while exploiting opportunities whenever he judges it safe.
  • Moral ambiguity and hypocrisy: The narration presents hunting as natural law, while Chen Zhuo himself pursues valuable soul-beast remains and condemns other characters’ violence.
  • Grief as transformation: Tang San’s anguish directly alters his martial soul and threatens to change his path.

Ch. 19Breaking through to Soul Ancestor! A gift for his prospective master

Key plot points and events

  • Dugu Bo arranges a private meeting between Chen Zhuo and Crown Prince Xue Qinghe, who is secretly Qian Renxue. Snake Lance and Porcupinefish Douluos attend as her guards.
  • Chen Zhuo addresses Qian Renxue by her real name, startling her and prompting her guards to release murderous pressure. Dugu Bo suppresses them with a glimpse of his level-95 strength, shocking both Douluos.
  • Chen says he came to help Qian Renxue, but she suspects he is working for Bibi Dong and rejects the offer.
  • To shift the conversation, Chen challenges Snake Lance Douluo to discuss cultivation. He reveals that he is only twelve, nearly level 40, and has three ten-thousand-year soul rings—an astonishing display that surprises everyone, especially Qian Renxue.
  • Chen secretly copies Snake Lance’s ninth soul skill, gaining a spirit-and-body-damaging attack that complements his existing physical-damage ability.
  • He presents Snake Lance with two immortal herbs—Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum and Crystal Blood Dragon Ginseng—as a sincere gift intended to repair weaknesses in Snake Lance’s cultivation foundation.

Character developments and interactions

  • Chen Zhuo presents himself as a potential ally while carefully staging the encounter to impress Qian Renxue and raise his negotiating value. He also shows a genuine interest in helping Snake Lance, whose early hardship and poor soul-ring configuration have limited his potential.
  • Qian Renxue moves from suspicion to alarm when Chen exposes her identity. His talent also unsettles her confidence in being unrivaled among young geniuses, though she remains wary of his motives.
  • Dugu Bo demonstrates that his strength has grown far beyond the weak Titled Douluo reputation his opponents expected, protecting Chen and controlling the meeting.
  • Snake Lance Douluo is revealed as a talented but disadvantaged cultivator: poverty, tragedy, and an inferior fifth soul ring have left him stalled at level 92. Chen’s gift offers him a chance to overcome those limits.
  • The meeting is marked by mutual suspicion: Qian Renxue sees Chen as a possible threat, while Chen uses both his power and generosity to establish a relationship with her guards.

Significant themes

  • Hidden identities and political intrigue: Chen’s use of Qian Renxue’s real name turns a diplomatic meeting into a dangerous confrontation.
  • Talent versus circumstance: Snake Lance’s story shows how poverty and lack of institutional support can stunt even exceptional ability.
  • Power as leverage: Chen’s cultivation and soul rings help make his offer harder to dismiss.
  • Mentorship and second chances: The herbs represent Chen’s intention to give Snake Lance the support he lacked earlier in life.

Ch. 20Heaven Dou's National Treasure, Payment in Advance

Plot points and events

  • Chen Zhuo and Dugu Bo leave the Moonlight Pavilion after completing their initial business. Once free to stop suppressing his power, Chen Zhuo’s soul force surges to level 45, fueled by his new soul ring, two hundred-thousand-year soul bones, and years of rare medicines.
  • Several days later, Qian Renxue visits Dugu Manor. Snake Lance Douluo has used Chen Zhuo’s herbs and risen from level 92 to level 95, becoming a Super Douluo. He now wants Chen Zhuo as his disciple, leaving Qian Renxue to decide whether to approve.
  • At the manor, Qian Renxue discovers that Dragon Duke Meng Shu is also a Titled Douluo and that Dugu Yan and Meng Yiran are stronger than expected. She realizes Chen Zhuo’s influence and resources are far greater than she understood.
  • Qian Renxue apologizes for her earlier behavior and discusses her political position. Chen Zhuo assures her that Prince Xue Xing will not obstruct her and warns that Xue Beng may not be the harmless wastrel everyone assumes.
  • Believing Chen Zhuo can help secure her succession, Qian Renxue offers him a Platinum Bishop position as a reward. Chen Zhuo declines and instead asks for the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud from the Heaven Dou Royal Treasury.
  • Qian Renxue recognizes it as Heaven Dou’s supposedly priceless but unusable national treasure. Chen Zhuo says he knows she can obtain it and presents a jade box containing a cockscomb-shaped herb as payment in advance.

Character developments

  • Chen Zhuo reveals a major increase in power and demonstrates extensive knowledge of Heaven Dou politics. He is confident in negotiating for what he wants and appears to have planned his approach to Qian Renxue.
  • Qian Renxue shifts from suspicion and displeasure to sincere apology and renewed respect for Chen Zhuo. His knowledge and the strength of those around him unsettle her, while also prompting her to reconsider her own arrogance.
  • Snake Lance Douluo is transformed by Chen Zhuo’s herbs and develops enough gratitude and admiration to seek him as a teacher.
  • Dugu Bo and Meng Shu remain guarded and powerful presences; their strength reinforces the impression that Chen Zhuo’s circle is unusually formidable.

Significant themes

  • Hidden power and underestimated people: Chen Zhuo’s abilities, Meng Shu’s rank, and the possibility that Xue Beng is more capable than he appears all challenge accepted assumptions.
  • Power through knowledge and relationships: Chen Zhuo’s political insight and access to rare treasures give him leverage beyond his apparent status.
  • Reciprocity and negotiation: Qian Renxue offers a prestigious title, but Chen Zhuo prefers a specific object and provides payment in advance.
  • Humility and self-reflection: Qian Renxue recognizes that her success has made her arrogant and begins to reassess her conduct.

Character interactions

  • Qian Renxue apologizes to Chen Zhuo and seeks his help with the succession struggle; he responds with political advice and reassurance.
  • She probes Chen Zhuo’s motives by offering a high-ranking Spirit Hall post, but he redirects the negotiation toward the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud.
  • Chen Zhuo’s companions observe proper courtesy toward Qian Renxue, while her cautious assessment of them deepens her sense that the manor—and Chen Zhuo—hold more power than she expected.
