Background / History
Earlier Beast Tides
Di Tian had previously unleashed a Beast Tide after the Body Sect hunted three hundred-thousand-year soul beasts. That campaign involved only a portion of the northern Star Dou Great Forest’s clans, yet Shrek Academy and the Body Sect exhausted their available methods to repel it 52 75.
The Silver Dragon King tacitly approved Di Tian’s Beast Tides. She regarded retaliation as necessary to discourage human hunting: losing some soul beasts in war was preferable to allowing unchecked hunting to claim still more. The surviving Soul Beast Clan also supplied the faith needed to repair her damaged origin 104.
Huo Yuhao’s Provocation
Huo Yuhao killed the Scarlet King and Zi Ji after their battle with Xuan Zi, trapping them in his Bright Half-Plane. Their deaths occurred outside Douluo Star, preventing Di Tian from detecting the usual signs of their demise 41 53.
After defeating Xuan Zi, Huo Yuhao openly confirmed that he intended to provoke a Beast Tide. He released Xuan Zi so Shrek Academy could delay Di Tian and prepare its defenses, while promising that no ordinary person would die 52 53.
Di Tian demanded a satisfactory explanation for the missing beasts within one month. Bi Ji delivered the ultimatum, and Shrek began preparing for an attack despite uncertainty about what had happened to the Scarlet King and Zi Ji 65.
Huo Yuhao’s original objective was to lure Di Tian away and steal the forest’s gold of life. As his strength increased, the plan expanded to include Di Tian’s soul ring, soul bone and corpse, weakening Shrek, earning withdrawal points, and ultimately controlling access to soul beasts and soul rings 53 74 90 108.
Organization and Tactics
Star Dou Command Structure
| Commander / Unit | Assignment | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Di Tian | Northern army and strongest human opponents | Personally commands the main assault on Shrek and reserves Limit Douluos and top-level human fighters for himself 75. |
| Xiong Jun and Myriad Demon King | Elite assault forces | Lead hundred-thousand-year beasts against Shrek’s Titled Douluos and reinforcements 75. |
| Bi Ji and the Emerald Swan Clan | Healing support | Treat lower-ranked beasts; ten hundred-thousand-year soul beasts are assigned to protect Bi Ji 75. |
| Nine Heart Begonia Clan | High-ranking combatant support | The Myriad Demon King is ordered to deploy these hundred-thousand-year healing beasts 75. |
| Black Dragon Clan and regional Beast Kings | Eastern, western and southern armies | Black dragons command each frontier alongside Beast Kings rallying their own clans 81. |
Shared Battlefield Methods
- Expendable vanguard: Ten-year and hundred-year beasts attack first, clearing routes and exhausting defenders before stronger formations advance 80 81 234.
- Ground and aerial waves: Flying beasts join the assault after the ground forces have engaged, forcing cities to defend multiple approaches simultaneously 83 234.
- Corpse-built crossings: At Holy Lord City, dead beasts fill the moat and accumulate into a ramp over the walls, allowing the elite troops to reach the battlements 234.
- Specialized support: Star Dou’s army uses powerful healing clans; the Evil Demon army uses the Evil Eye Clan’s Spiritual Shocks to disrupt human defenders 75 234.
- Rapid movement after assembly: Earlier Beast Tides relied on surprise and speed. Against an already-prepared Shrek, Di Tian instead spends time mobilizing nearly every combat-capable beast in the forest 75.
- Elite intervention: Di Tian personally destroys Shrek’s fortifications to reduce losses among his stronger troops. The Evil Eye Tyrant Overlord attacks Holy Lord City’s commanders when their spiritual defenses stall its army 79 234.
Major Campaigns
Star Dou Great Forest Beast Tide
Di Tian announces an army expected to number ten million and orders attacks from all four sides of the forest. The northern force is the strongest; its advance toward Shrek is described as more than ten times larger than the previous Beast Tide 75 78 81.
| Phase | Events |
|---|---|
| Final provocation | Huo Yuhao sends the undead Scarlet King and Zi Ji to taunt Di Tian. After confirming that powerful humans have gathered at Shrek, Di Tian concludes that they intend to kill him and take his corpse 74. |
| Human mobilization | Shrek deploys costly soul tools and assembles residents, students and soldiers. Its City Defense Army expands from ten thousand to thirty thousand, including more than ten thousand soul masters 77 80. |
| Nighttime eruption | The Beast Tide leaves the forest after sunset. Its northern army approaches Shrek in a broad, organized fan formation stretching for a thousand miles 78 79. |
| Shrek’s defenses breached | Negotiations fail. Di Tian smashes the southern wall and burns its weapons with black dragon flames, forcing the defenders into close combat at the breach 79 80. |
| Other fronts intercepted | Electrolux opens ninety-nine teleportation gates and deploys ninety-nine undead armies along the eastern, western and southern borders. They block the stronger second waves while Huo Yuhao handles low-level beasts deliberately allowed through 81. |
| Shrek nears defeat | Huo Xingling’s Spiritual Detection and Sharing improves cannon targeting, but stronger ground and flying beasts intensify the assault. The Myriad Demon King’s poison and mental attacks help collapse the defenses; two-thirds of the city’s defenders are killed or wounded before reinforcements arrive 83 87. |
| Reinforcements reverse the battle | Du Busi and Yu Luoba engage the Beast Kings. Mu En dies after using self-detonation to banish Di Tian into a space-time rift, and Shrek’s rallied defenders drive the beasts back 87 90 91. |
| Di Tian restores his army | Di Tian escapes the rift with his Dragon God Claw. He disperses his blood over the army, healing wounded beasts and raising dragon-blooded beasts’ combat strength by a full tier 91. |
| Additional powers intervene | The Holy Spirit Cult and Evil Emperor attack Di Tian. Huo Yuhao then arrives with ten thousand armored cavalry and heavily equipped Titled Douluos, publicly blaming the cult for the disaster 93 95. |
| Beast Tide ends | Huo Yuhao kills the Evil Emperor and then Di Tian. With their sovereign dead, the remaining beasts scatter, and the victorious human forces turn against the Holy Spirit Cult 100 104. |
Civilian Protection and the Southern Front
- Evacuated approach to Shrek: Shrek removes ordinary people from the northern army’s route before its arrival 79.
- Exposed Star Luo frontier: Dai Hao refuses to reinforce the threatened region, choosing instead to attack the Sun Moon Empire’s Mingdou Mountains and Rising Sun City 77 78.
- Staged rescue operation: Huo Yuhao organizes nearly five hundred condemned criminals into twenty squads under Undead Holy Magic Cult leaders. Undead Guardians protect them, while Gate of the Undead keys serve as location markers for rescue deployments 78.
- Star Shield City: Refugees flee toward the city as low-level beasts catch up with them. Electrolux later keeps its siege active by sending small groups of beasts toward it 82 90.
- Confirmed promise: A later account states that Huo Yuhao did not allow a single ordinary person to die in this Beast Tide, despite the heavy losses among combatants 155.
Evil Demon Great Forest Beast Tide
The Evil Eye Tyrant Overlord invokes revenge for its father as the reason for a new Beast Tide. Eighteen of the forest’s twenty-four Evil Demon Tribes answer the call, and Holy Lord City expects at least twenty hundred-thousand-year opponents 232 234.
| Phase | Events |
|---|---|
| Defensive preparations | The Fire Phoenix and Evil Lord Soul Engineer Corps, Terror Claw Soul Engineer Legion, and border troops gather near Holy Lord City. Song Que warns that the Evil Eyes’ mental attacks require strong spiritual-defense soul tools 232. |
| Sustained siege | Low-ranking beasts absorb defensive fire while Evil Eyes bombard the city with Spiritual Shocks. After two days, corpse piles provide a route over the walls for stronger and flying beasts 234. |
| Close-combat counterattack | With civilians already evacuated, Song Que opens the gates and commits the assembled army. The diversion reduces pressure on the walls, allowing damaged weapons to be repaired 234. |
| Holy Spirit Cult intervention | The defenders trap the Evil Eye Tyrant Overlord with a linked soul-tool formation, but Zhongli Wu’s Bone Dragon King and other Evil Soul Masters interrupt the attack. Cult forces openly assist the beasts while harvesting human corpses and souls 234 235. |
| Defenses collapse | The Overlord destroys the soul tool sustaining the Spiritual Immunity Halo. Song Que damages the Bone Dragon King and dies attempting to destroy Zhongli Wu through self-detonation 235. |
| Huo Yuhao intervenes | Huo Yuhao protects and strengthens the surviving defenders with golden light. He equips a thirty-member squad with Namo Gatlings, whose sustained bombardment suppresses the horde 236 237. |
| Final bombardment | Eight Kings of War detonate, destroying Holy Lord City’s walls and devastating the beasts. Hidden by the blast, Huo Yuhao captures surviving Beast Kings and transfers them to the Bright Half-Plane 237. |
| Remaining resistance | Only about one-fifth of the horde gets through the bombardment. The surviving defenders and reinforcements are considered sufficient to finish the battle 238. |
Related Far North Conflict
- The post-Star Dou soul-ring shortage makes the Far North’s beasts a major target for the empires. They agree to cooperate with the Sun Moon Empire to capture beasts and relocate them into their own territories 217.
- Xu Tianran orders Ju Zi to contain a Far North Beast Tide without exterminating its beasts, explicitly seeking to avoid the resource crisis already affecting the Douluo Continent 233.
Consequences
Deaths and Destruction
- Shrek City: Suffers catastrophic destruction and heavy military casualties. Shrek Academy itself largely survives because of the Golden Tree, and both city and academy are largely rebuilt within a week 125 129.
- Star Dou Great Forest: Loses most of its effective fighting force. Hunters entering afterward find few thousand-year beasts, almost no ten-thousand-year beasts, and an alarming scarcity of plant soul beasts 107 117.
- Di Tian and the Evil Emperor: Both are killed during the Star Dou campaign. Di Tian is later transformed into the undead Night Emperor 104 173.
- Holy Lord City: Its defensive walls are obliterated by Huo Yuhao’s final bombardment; the Evil Demon Great Forest’s participating beasts are nearly wiped out 237 238.
- Undead harvest: Electrolux transforms tens of millions of soul-beast corpses and dead soul masters into undead, preserving their value as future soul-ring sources 134.
Control of the Surviving Soul Beasts
- Huo Yuhao captures Bi Ji, Xiong Jun and the Myriad Demon King, then uses the clan’s devastated condition to negotiate with Gu Yuena 106 107.
- He proposes the Bright Half-Plane as a human-free refuge where soul beasts can reproduce, while making clear that the captured beasts will remain under his control 107 108.
- The Bright Great Forest is completed as the relocated beasts’ new home. Gu Yuena withdraws to recover, leaving the Beast Kings to manage those still in the Star Dou Great Forest 118.
- Surviving Beast Kings from the Holy Lord City battle, including the Evil Eye Tyrant Overlord, are also taken into the Bright Half-Plane 237.
Public Blame and Political Leverage
- Huo Yuhao publicly attributes the Star Dou disaster to the Holy Spirit Cult. Allied leaders suspect his own undead forces collected the battlefield’s corpses, but remain silent rather than challenge him 95 125 126.
- He sells access to ring inscriptions and hundred-thousand-year beast remains, gaining ten controlled subordinates and payments totaling 1.7 billion Gold Soul Coins 129.
- The Star Luo rescue operation supports the Undead Holy Magic Cult’s effort to win ordinary people’s trust. Its losses also become part of Huo Yuhao’s later confrontation with Dai Hao over military disobedience 78 142.
Hidden Objectives
- Withdrawal points: Battlefield deaths push Huo Yuhao’s total to one hundred thousand, unlocking two new worlds 90.
- Huo Yun’er’s resurrection: Blood gathered from the Beast Tide contributes to a Life-and-Death Pearl for the forbidden Resurrection of the Dead spell. The technique requires materials derived from at least one hundred million deaths 173.
- Soul-ring dependence: The destruction of major beast populations leaves soul masters short of suitable rings, while the Sun Moon Empire restricts exports of valuable beasts 217.
- The “Second World”: Huo Yuhao eventually offers access to the Undead Demiplane through Undead Divine Halls. Visitors hunt undead for rings and bones, but must sign contracts returning their own bodies to the demiplane after death 334.
- Confirmed orchestration: Xu Changsheng finally identifies Huo Yuhao as the strategist behind the Beast Tides. Huo Yuhao defends the scheme as a cycle of renewal intended to prevent the disappearance of both soul beasts and soul masters 334.
