History
First Palace Intrusion
Ge Long intercepts Wei Fan shortly after he infiltrates the Heaven Dou Imperial Palace. Expecting a petty thief, he is shocked when Wei Fan produces a Trident martial soul with five ten-thousand-year Soul Rings. Wei Fan withstands his attack, strikes back, and escapes while Ge Long is still processing the unusual ring configuration 6.
Ge Long follows the intruder to the Crown Prince’s Palace. Qian Renxue, impersonating Xue Qinghe, assures him that nothing is wrong, but he insists on leaving two squads of guards to protect the crown prince. This precaution inadvertently prevents both Wei Fan and Qian Renxue from moving freely through the night. His unsuccessful search ends the following morning 6 7.
Theft of the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud
During the imperial celebration, Ge Long notices brilliant blue light coming from the Swan Tower and surrounds it with Royal Knights. He searches the upper floor but cannot discover Wei Fan and Ning Rongrong beneath the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud’s concealment 11 12.
He later catches the masked Wei Fan in a courtyard and attacks. Their clash escalates through Dragon Fist, Dragon Transformation, and Ge Long’s full dragon avatar. Although Ge Long gains the upper hand, Wei Fan uses the stolen Shroud to block his dragonfire and blast him through a wall before escaping invisibly 12 13.
Ge Long recognizes the Shroud as the empire’s national treasure but withholds its newly discovered abilities from Emperor Xue Ye, fearing that knowledge of its value will increase his blame for losing it. When Chen Xin suggests that the intruder must have concealed his true strength, Ge Long accepts the explanation to save face 13.
Public Accusation and Punishment
After returning to the celebration, Ge Long becomes convinced that Wei Fan is the masked thief. He publicly demands a search of Wei Fan’s Storage Soul Tool despite admitting that he has no evidence. Wei Fan agrees on the condition that an unsuccessful search will cost Ge Long three years’ salary 15 16.
The tool contains only food supplies. Ge Long refuses to accept the result and demands that Wei Fan reveal his martial soul, provoking objections from Salas and the assembled nobles. Xue Ye orders him to return the tool, apologize, and pay the agreed compensation 16 17.
Still convinced of Wei Fan’s guilt, Ge Long assumes the Shroud remains hidden inside the palace. He deploys ten squads of Royal Knights, even having the lotus pond’s mud searched, without finding it. Xue Ye rejects his explanation as an attempt to evade responsibility 17 18.
Investigation and Later Corroboration
Qian Renxue questions Ge Long about which hand the intruder used to manifest his martial soul. He answers that it was the right hand, then later realizes that the crown prince was investigating the possibility of twin martial souls. He resolves to uncover Wei Fan’s hidden second martial soul after recovering the Shroud 18.
His accusation remains publicly discredited, but Dugu Bo later encounters the masked Trident wielder and realizes that Ge Long’s account was not fabricated. Qian Renxue likewise treats Ge Long’s original observation of five black rings as reliable when she discovers that Wei Fan now possesses four black rings and one red ring 34 42.
Personality
Ge Long takes imperial protection seriously. He refuses to withdraw the crown prince’s guards merely because he is told that everything is safe, reasoning that he cannot risk allowing a powerful intruder to harm the heir. His continued searches also demonstrate persistence after repeated failures 7 13 18.
His sense of duty is intertwined with pride and concern for his standing. He considers failing to capture a thief humiliating for an imperial marshal, conceals information that could worsen his accountability, and mistakes Wei Fan’s composure during the wager for a bluff. Even after the search fails, he remains certain of his judgment 6 13 16 17.
