Background / History
Imperial Guest Elder
Dugu Bo previously offended Spirit Hall and was pursued by Yue Guan and Gui Mei. Prince Xue Xing intervened and saved him from an encounter that nearly killed him. He subsequently became a guest elder of the Heaven Dou Empire; at the time of Wei Fan’s palace exploits, he was the empire’s only Titled Douluo serving in that capacity 18 31 34.
Theft of the Chrysanthemum
Dugu Bo maintained a treasured herb garden at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well in Sunset Forest, protected by a poison barrier. While he was away playing chess with Prince Xue Xing, Wei Fan entered the garden and stole a Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum 22 23.
Upon returning, Dugu Bo immediately noticed the missing herb. Investigating with Dugu Yan, he found a nearby battle site and a scrap of Godwind Academy uniform. He confronted Dean Feng Yi, imposed a one-hour deadline to identify the thief, and forcibly seized Feng Xiaotian when the student admitted visiting Sunset Forest 26.
Dugu Bo recognized that Feng Xiaotian lacked the strength to cross his barrier but refused to admit his accusation was mistaken. He also rejected Feng Xiaotian’s claim that Wei Fan was responsible, interpreting it as retaliation over their earlier conflict. Feng Yi secured Xiaotian’s release by promising to recover the herb or compensate Dugu Bo 27.
Attack on Sunset Forest
Wei Fan later brought Yue Guan and Gui Mei to the garden, having secured their agreement that all collected herbs would belong to him. The two elders attacked Dugu Bo and, after discovering his Head Soul Bone, attempted to kill him and seize it. Dugu Bo countered with petrification, Time Freeze, and devastating poison before using purple mist to cover his retreat 31 32.
Near the well, he encountered the masked Wei Fan. Shocked by a Soul King possessing four black rings and a red Hundred Thousand Year ring, Dugu Bo suspected him of the earlier theft and attacked. Wei Fan blocked successive attacks with Sea Shield and the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud. Although Dugu Bo held the upper hand in their final clash and exhausted Wei Fan’s soul power, he fled when he sensed Yue Guan and Gui Mei approaching 32.
Cornered again at the well, Dugu Bo attacked his own herbs to force Yue Guan to protect them instead of stopping his escape. The diversion succeeded, and his familiarity with the terrain allowed him to evade Gui Mei. Injured, he left to recover while Wei Fan’s party harvested his collection 33.
Suspicions About Wei Fan
After hearing recent news from Dugu Yan, Dugu Bo reconsidered whether Wei Fan was the masked Soul King. The possibility implied twin martial souls and a connection to Yue Guan and Gui Mei. He abandoned plans to question Wei Fan, fearing that another confrontation would expose him to the two Spirit Hall elders again 34.
Appearance
- Build: Tall and lean in his human form 31.
- Eyes: Icy green, with a snake-like appearance 27 28 32.
- Martial Soul Avatar: An enormous jade-green serpent more than thirty meters long 31.
Personality
Dugu Bo is fiercely possessive of his herb garden. He visits it eight times a day and considers even a missing leaf unacceptable. His response to the stolen chrysanthemum is immediate and intimidating, though he initially states that he wants the culprit rather than trouble with the entire academy 26.
Pride influences his judgment: even after recognizing that Godwind Academy had not stolen the herb, he refuses to acknowledge his mistake and accepts Feng Yi’s compensation offer as a way to withdraw without losing face. His skepticism toward Wei Fan’s involvement is also based on his confidence in his own poison barrier 27.
When his life is threatened, survival outweighs pride and possessions. He retreats from Yue Guan and Gui Mei, abandons his attempt to kill Wei Fan, and ultimately risks destroying his cherished herbs to escape. Afterward, he restrains his desire to investigate rather than risk another beating 31 32 33 34.
Abilities & Skills
Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor Avatar
His seventh soul skill transforms him into a giant serpent 31.
- Replaces his human body with a jade-green serpent over thirty meters long.
- Allows him to fight and release serpent poison in this form 31 32.
- Does not overcome Yue Guan and Gui Mei’s combined assault; their restraint skills immobilize his tail and reduce his speed 31.
Poison Techniques
Dugu Bo uses poison for territorial defense, direct attacks, and concealment.
- Poison barrier: Surrounds his hideout. He believes crossing it requires at least Soul Saint strength; Wei Fan bypasses it with the Vast Sea Cosmic Shroud 27 32.
- Third Soul Skill — Jade Phosphorous Bewildering Formation: Used alongside serpent poison to create an escape opportunity 32.
- Fifth Soul Skill — Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor Poison: Releases serpent poison; its combined use with the third skill blankets nearly one hundred meters in purple mist 32.
- Ninth Soul Skill — Jade Phosphorous Divine Light: Used in an attack that withers, blackens, and dissolves surrounding vegetation across a thousand-meter area, apart from the zone protected by Yue Guan 31.
- Limits: Yue Guan and Gui Mei regard his poison as dangerous enough to avoid injury, but not lethal to them. The Vast Sea Protective Shroud also blocks his corrosive poisonous mist 31 32.
Time Freeze
His eighth soul skill produces a time-freezing effect 31.
- Unleashed when Gui Mei attempts to extract his Head Soul Bone.
- Used together with Jade Phosphorous Divine Light during his escape attempt; its precise duration is not specified 31.
Head Soul Bone Petrification
His Head Soul Bone emits two pale beams from his eyes 31.
- Turns Yue Guan’s incoming golden petal blades into gray stone, stopping them in midair.
- Its revelation makes the bone an additional target for Yue Guan and Gui Mei 31.
Direct Soul Power Attacks
Dugu Bo can overpower weaker Soul Masters through pressure and force alone.
- Forcibly drags Feng Xiaotian to his side and prevents him from moving 26.
- Uses a jade-green beam and an unnamed first soul skill against Wei Fan 32.
- Fifth Soul Skill — Serpent Emperor Break: Fires a purple beam from an energy vortex. It overpowers Wei Fan’s Cosmic Demon-Breaking attack, throwing him backward and exhausting his soul power 32.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Head Soul Bone — Grants his eye-beam petrification ability; its age and originating Soul Beast are unspecified 31.
- Herb collection — Kept at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. The stolen Singular Velvet Sky Chrysanthemum is followed by the loss of the remaining harvested plants to Wei Fan’s party; Yue Guan leaves roots and rhizomes behind for possible regrowth 23 33.
Relationships
- Dugu Yan — Granddaughter and investigative companion. She identifies the Godwind Academy uniform scrap and later supplies news that informs his suspicions about Wei Fan 26 34 35.
- Prince Xue Xing — Rescuer and imperial associate. Previously saves him from Yue Guan and Gui Mei; the two later play chess at the imperial residence 22 31 34.
- Wei Fan — Herb thief and adversary. Dugu Bo initially dismisses accusations against him, later fights him without recognizing his masked identity, and eventually suspects the connection 23 27 32 34.
- Yue Guan and Gui Mei — Longstanding enemies who attack his hideout and attempt to seize his Head Soul Bone 31 33.
- Feng Yi — Godwind Academy dean whom he pressures into promising recovery of the stolen herb or compensation 26 27.
- Feng Xiaotian — Wrongly targeted suspect. Dugu Bo restrains and interrogates him, then rejects his accusation against Wei Fan as revenge-driven 26 27.
