Felicia suddenly raised her right hand.
All ten claws sprang out at once.
Moonlight fell on the blades, casting a cold blue sheen over them.
"Shut up."
She slashed.
Rip!
The web snapped in the middle.
Peter felt the tension vanish from his wrist. With nothing supporting him, he flipped backward off the wire fence.
"Oh, crap!"
He was a full six meters above the ground.
As he fell, Peter raised his wrist, ready to fire another web. But that last yank had sent him spinning, and walls, eaves, and dim streetlights whirled through his vision.
He couldn't aim his web.
"Peter!"
Felicia cried out. Her voice was no longer hoarse or unfamiliar, and she didn't even realize she had already lunged after him.
With the stone tablet tucked against her waist under one arm, she leaped off the fence. Her black-gloved hand shot into the air, fingers spread, reaching straight for Peter's arm.
She almost caught him.
Peter twisted in midair and finally located the corner of the wall. A web shot out and stuck to the nearby fire escape.
It caught him.
But his momentum slammed him into the wall.
Thud!
Peter's shoulder struck the brick wall. He slid down it and finally landed on one knee.
Broken bricks rolled past his feet.
"You..."
He looked up.
Felicia stood three meters away.
Her outstretched hand still hung in the air, her black claws less than half a meter from Peter's mask.
Neither of them spoke.
Peter stared at her.
She had called him by his name.
Not Spider-Man.
Peter.
More importantly, she had instinctively reached out to save him.
A woman who truly wanted him dead wouldn't jump down to catch him after cutting his web.
Felicia realized it, too.
She slowly curled her fingers, her claws retracting
