Felicia gasped for breath, her lungs heaving like bellows. The shock darts in her left shoulder and calf were still lodged in her flesh, their barbs tearing at her nerves with every stride.
She yanked the darts out, drawing a little spray of blood, and never even glanced at them.
Ahead stood a sealed stained-glass window. Outside, flashing police lights cast bizarre colors through the glass.
Thud! Thud! Thud! Behind her, the pounding of SWAT officers' tactical boots drew closer.
Felicia clutched the stone tablet tighter without slowing down.
Her green, slit pupils contracted, and claws sprang from all ten fingertips.
Crash!
She hurled herself through the enormous stained-glass window. Countless colorful shards danced through the night like butterflies.
Cold wind rushed in.
She dropped more than ten meters and landed heavily on the roof of a police armored vehicle outside the Metropolis Museum.
Bang! Her landing smashed a huge dent into the roof.
The surrounding officers froze in shock. Before they could raise their guns, the silver-white shadow had stepped onto the hood and launched herself onto a streetlight across the road. A few leaps later, she disappeared over Manhattan's densely packed rooftops.
"Don't let her escape! Call in a helicopter!"
Lower Manhattan, an abandoned industrial district.
Peter Parker stood atop a rusty crane tower. The night wind whipped his red-and-blue Costume.
Nothing.
Absolutely nothing.
He had turned the whole neighborhood upside down and even interrogated three drug dealers in the middle of a deal. Nobody had seen a black bulletproof car, much less a blonde girl.
Helplessness coiled around his heart like a strangling vine.
"If I hadn't dodged last night... if I'd insisted on walking her home..." Peter punched the steel framework beside him. The metal buckled, but he
