Seeing the hopeful look in Gu Junxing's eyes, Qiao Hua couldn't bear to refuse. "All right, I'll see you off."
The moment she finished speaking, Gu Wenze abruptly interrupted in a low voice. "No."
A trace of anger crept into his eyes, and even the hard line of his jaw radiated danger.
Gu Junxing deliberately provoked him. "Isn't it perfectly natural for my sister-in-law to see her brother-in-law off? Why are you making such a big deal out of it?"
Even Weng Fenghua gave Gu Wenze a puzzled look. "Exactly, Wenze. What's gotten into you today? Why do you keep picking on your brother?"
Seeing the suspicion in his mother's eyes, Gu Wenze worried she might notice something amiss. He said nothing more, but his gaze turned cold and ruthless as he shot Gu Junxing a warning look.
Gu Junxing met his gaze fearlessly, with the smugness of a victor.
"Oh, Qiao Hua." Weng Fenghua suddenly broke the silence. "Now that you're pregnant, I've thought it over, and I still can't stop worrying. Why don't you move in here and let me take care of you myself?"
Qiao Hua nearly choked at that. She hurriedly waved her hands. "There's no need, Mom. I'm doing perfectly well as I am."
Weng Fenghua frowned. "Perfectly well? They don't know how to take care of anyone. You'd be safer here with me."
Gu Wenze spoke in a low voice. "Mom, if you're worried, I can bring Qiao Hua over often. But there's no need for her to move in."
Naturally, Gu Wenze didn't trust Qiao Hua to stay here. The woman wouldn't behave herself, and there was no telling when she might start plotting another escape.
Besides, if Gu Junxing came home every few days, who knew whether their old feelings might rekindle?
