Ruan Hanli froze. Before she could react, the car window had already closed.
She wasn't sure whether her eyes had deceived her, but just as Gu Wenze closed the window, she thought she saw a woman's silhouette in the back seat.
Before she could get a closer look, the car had driven away.
Ruan Hanli's figure grew smaller and smaller in the rearview mirror, disappearing completely after they rounded a corner. Qiao Hua clicked her tongue. "Why didn't you let her get in? Don't you know how hard it is to get a taxi at this hour?"
Gu Wenze cast her a sidelong glance, his dark eyes inscrutable. "Weren't you the one who said we couldn't let anyone know about our relationship?"
Qiao Hua shrugged. "She's not just anyone. Isn't she your childhood friend?"
A chill flashed through Gu Wenze's eyes. He grabbed Qiao Hua's wrist, gripping it hard enough to almost crush it. "Qiao Hua, other women would do anything to keep another woman out of their husband's car, but you do the opposite. Are you that eager for someone to steal me away so you can find yourself another man? Is that it?"
Qiao Hua suddenly felt a little guilty.
How did Gu Wenze manage to guess what she was thinking so accurately every time? Was she really that obvious?
"She's not just anyone. Didn't you say your families were old friends?" Qiao Hua straightened her back, sounding perfectly justified. "Besides, didn't you used to tell me not to act like a jealous wife and pick fights over nothing? Now that I'm being so generous, you should be happy."
Gu Wenze already regretted it. He would rather Qiao Hua gave him trouble the way she used to.
At least that would mean she still cared about him.
