Ruan Hanli's expression froze. "W-what are you talking about? I don't understand."
Gu Wenze asked in a low voice, "Did you ask Assistant Du to deliver some documents for you today?"
Ruan Hanli nodded, looking bewildered. "Yes. I had a training session and didn't have time to go out, so I asked Assistant Du to help."
Gu Wenze's voice was laced with coldness. "Did you know that Assistant Du had a family emergency and asked Qiao Hua to deliver them for her? Qiao Hua was hurt while helping you two."
Ruan Hanli's eyes widened, nervousness and confusion creeping onto her face. "Wenze, I did ask Assistant Du to deliver the documents, but I didn't know she'd ask Qiao Hua to help, much less that anything would happen to her."
Gu Wenze stared deep into her eyes. "You really didn't know?"
An inexplicable panic seized Ruan Hanli, and she pressed down hard on her trembling hand. "Of course not. I can't predict the future. How could I have known Assistant Du would have a family emergency?"
Without a word, Gu Wenze turned the laptop screen in front of him toward Ruan Hanli.
In the surveillance footage, Assistant Du stood at a corner taking a phone call. Not far behind her, Ruan Hanli was hiding in a corner, eavesdropping.
