At Qiao Hua's words, a flicker of sadness crossed Shen Zhen's eyes. "Yes."
Hearing that, Qiao Hua's voice filled with guilt. She sighed. "I shouldn't have asked you to leave with me back then."
If Shen Zhen hadn't left with her, perhaps You Xiaonian wouldn't have caught her and taken her back so soon. Perhaps she wouldn't be pregnant now.
"Don't say that." Shen Zhen looked at her with a gentle smile. "The time I spent with you was the happiest I've ever been."
Seeing the smile Shen Zhen put on to appear strong, Qiao Hua felt a pang in her heart. She asked hesitantly, "What are you going to do from now on?"
Shen Zhen looked out the window, a barely perceptible resolve in her eyes. "I'll leave."
Qiao Hua recalled how You Xiaonian and Shen Zhen ended up in the original novel. They probably won't be able to get away from each other in this lifetime.
But she couldn't say that aloud. Just as she was about to change the subject to something lighter, Gu Wenze walked in and said in a low voice, "The hour is up. She needs to go back."
"Already?" Qiao Hua was unhappy. "We haven't finished talking."
Gu Wenze's handsome face was icy. "You promised me you'd let her go back after seeing her."
Not wanting them to argue over her, Shen Zhen stood up on her own. "I should get going anyway, or You Xiaonian will lose his mind again."
Qiao Hua glared at Gu Wenze for getting in the way. They could have talked a little longer. With some regret, she said, "Take good care of yourself, then. We'll get together again after I'm discharged."
Shen Zhen smiled softly. "All right."
A little while later, Shen Zhen left with Lin Chao.
