Gu Wenze frowned slightly. "Grandpa's birthday?"
Weng Fenghua's voice came through the phone. "Of course. He doesn't like a fuss, so we're not throwing a big party. We're just having a simple family celebration tonight. Come early."
Gu Wenze leaned lazily against the back of his chair. "What's the point? He doesn't even like me."
Weng Fenghua sighed. "He's still your grandfather. If you don't show up, people will gossip."
Gu Wenze's face remained expressionless. "I know."
After hanging up, Gu Wenze gave a cold scoff, picked up his jacket, and left the office.
By the time he returned to the villa, it was completely dark outside. He walked into the living room and saw Qiao Hua sitting cross-legged on the sofa, watching TV.
Anyone who didn't know better would have thought Qiao Hua was living the good life.
Hearing footsteps, Qiao Hua glanced at Gu Wenze, then looked away and went back to watching TV.
Gu Wenze's voice suddenly sounded above her. "You're coming out with me in a bit."
His tall figure blocked Qiao Hua's view. Forced to look up, she asked in confusion, "Where are we going?"
Gu Wenze offered no explanation. "You'll know when we get there."
In the past, Qiao Hua wouldn't have bothered going anywhere with him. But things were different now. She hadn't been out in ages.
Now that she had such a good opportunity, she certainly wasn't going to turn it down.
Qiao Hua immediately switched off the TV, brushed off the seat of her pants, and got ready to leave with Gu Wenze.
Seeing that Qiao Hua intended to go out with him in a plain white T-shirt and jeans, Gu Wenze frowned. "Go change into a dress."
Qiao Hua followed his gaze down to her clothes. "What's wrong with this?
