The police officer looked thrilled when he heard that.
"Mr. Gu, thank you. We'll head over to collect the evidence right away!"
Gu Yan tugged at the corner of his mouth. "You're welcome."
He had heard all of this... from his youngest sister.
Gu Luosheng looked at Gu Yan suspiciously. How did her eldest brother know all that? Did he have some kind of cheat?
Awesome! Seriously awesome!
No wonder he was the top lawyer in the legal world.
Once the police left, Gu Yan breathed a sigh of relief too.
Xia Zhiyun patted her chest. "Thank goodness for Shengsheng. She kept her cool in a crisis, pulled me into the master bedroom to call the police, then grabbed the pepper spray and rushed out herself."
"Thank you," Gu Yan said somewhat awkwardly.
Gu Luosheng waved a casual hand. "No need to be so polite. We're family."
Watching Gu Luosheng's easygoing, bold manner, Gu Yan instantly grew a little fonder of her.
"Big Brother, actually, I... was going to make a call too. I was just a little slower." With everything settled, Gu Luoxi emerged, suddenly eager to claim some credit.
Gu Yan wasn't an idiot. He had seen everything that happened, and now he felt rather disappointed in the younger sister he had watched grow up.
"Xixi, he's your classmate. Didn't you know what kind of person he was?" Xia Zhiyun was clearheaded and immediately voiced her doubts.
Gu Luoxi went pale and hurried to explain, "We were classmates in high school, but we hadn't been in touch for ages. He suddenly approached me this time. You know I've always been kindhearted. I feel bad turning people down."
"So you'd rather let someone hurt your eldest brother than turn them down? What were you thinking?" Xia Zhiyun was blunt by nature. She used to indulge Gu Luoxi because she adored her, but now that she knew what Gu Luoxi was really like, she was done indulging her.
"I... no, I really didn't think that far ahead." Gu Luoxi was on the verge of tears.
"Mom, do you not believe me anymore either?" Gu Luoxi gazed pitifully at Xia Zhiyun. She usually got away with things by wearing this innocent expression, and Xia Zhiyun would always feel sorry for her.
Xia Zhiyun's eyes shifted as a new idea suddenly came to her.
This was only the beginning. She couldn't openly fall out with Gu Luoxi yet.
Those foolish sons of hers still hadn't seen Gu Luoxi's true colors.
"I believe you. Of course I do. But you need to be more careful from now on. Don't let anyone fool you again, understand? You nearly dragged your brother into trouble this time," Xia Zhiyun said.
Gu Luoxi sniffled and nodded. "I understand, Mom."
"I'll go back to my room now," Gu Luoxi said.
"Go ahead." After saying that, Xia Zhiyun stuck out her leg just as Gu Luoxi passed her.
With a thud, Gu Luoxi fell straight to the floor.
She landed flat on her face.
Xia Zhiyun swiftly pulled her leg back, moving with astonishing speed.
If Gu Luosheng hadn't been watching the whole time, she might have missed it.
"Oh dear... Xixi, how could you be so careless?" Xia Zhiyun even put on a distressed expression. "Did you hurt yourself?"
"Just now... I think someone... tripped me." Gu Luoxi hadn't seen clearly and could only guess. She had landed face-first and dislocated her jaw, leaving her unable to stop the drool streaming down.
Holding back her laughter, Xia Zhiyun said, "Xixi, what are you saying? I can't hear you. Let's get a doctor to take a look at you first. I'll take some pictures of your condition and send them to the doctor."
Xia Zhiyun took out her phone and snapped several unflattering photos.
Hehe, perfect. Now she'd have plenty to amuse herself with later.
Gu Luoxi was in excruciating pain. She wanted to speak, but couldn't get any words out, and her movements looked utterly ridiculous.
"Little Sister, stop trying to talk. Your clothes are covered in drool." Gu Luosheng came over to enjoy the spectacle too.
"I've only ever seen people with dislocated jaws online. I never thought I'd see one in real life. Hahaha..."
After laughing, Gu Luosheng realized she had been a little too loud and quickly coughed. "Sorry, I couldn't quite control myself for a moment."
"Gu! Luo! Sheng!" Furious, Gu Luoxi couldn't help shouting, only for her jaw to crack, making the dislocation even worse.
"Hey, calm down, Little Sister. Look at you. Why get so worked up...?" Gu Luosheng sounded rather helpless, though she still finished with a smile.
"You'd better stop talking." Gu Luosheng reveled in her misfortune.
Gu Yan also said flatly, "Be more careful when you walk. The floors in our house are quite level. You really shouldn't be falling over even here."
Gu Luoxi couldn't believe those words had come from her eldest brother.
Normally, even a scrape on her hand would leave him terribly concerned.
This had to be Gu Luosheng's doing!
Gu Luoxi was so angry she nearly exploded.
"Oh dear, what terrible timing. The doctor's entire family went to Africa to mine coal today. They won't be back anytime soon..." Xia Zhiyun sighed, looking regretful and sounding as though it were actually true.
"How about we go to the hospital?" Xia Zhiyun suggested.
Hearing that, Gu Luoxi shook her head like a rattle. "F... fans..."
Xia Zhiyun nodded in understanding. "Oh, you're worried about running into your fans, aren't you? Then hang in there a little longer. We can go tonight when there are fewer people at the hospital, all right?"
Those few words had hurt so much that tears streamed down Gu Luoxi's face. Not daring to speak again, she could only nod.
Gu Luosheng looked left and right, afraid to look at Gu Luoxi because she was simply too funny.
One glance at her brought a hippo to mind.
Hahahaha!
"Then let's have something simple for dinner tonight and accommodate Xixi. We'll have dried fish, king crab, beef stew, and beef tendon, with baguettes for the staple," Xia Zhiyun said solemnly.
Gu Luoxi: ????
This was supposed to accommodate her?
It was all chewy food. What could she possibly eat?
"Uh, uh, uh..." Gu Luoxi wanted to ask for soup, but her jaw was even more severely dislocated now. She grunted for ages without managing to say anything.
"Xixi, you agree with me too, don't you? All right, I'll have the housekeeper make those dishes today." Xia Zhiyun smiled and went straight off to give her the menu.
Gu Luosheng laughed so hard her stomach nearly cramped.
Her mom had really scored big this time.
This felt amazing.
With no other choice, Gu Luoxi could only sit angrily on the nearby sofa.
She couldn't control it at all, so the drool kept flowing.
This was so annoying. She had never been this humiliated in her life.
Gu Luosheng was playing on her phone nearby when a chime sounded. A text had arrived from her manager, An Ning:
-Shengsheng, you've been selected for the variety show "Let's Fall in Love." Come check in the day after tomorrow. By the way, this time... the lineup is stacked. Our main strategy is to stay on the sidelines. As long as we don't get dissed, we're good.
Besides being Gu Luosheng's manager, An Ning was also a close friend of hers.
An Ning was an incredibly capable manager, but she just couldn't make Gu Luosheng popular. Not only had Gu Luosheng failed to make it big, she had ended up as a celebrity with a scandal-ridden reputation.
Ultimately, Gu Luoxi's protagonist halo was simply too powerful...
