Hu Xiaotian exclaimed repeatedly in admiration. Li Yifeng, the proprietor of Easy Origin Hall, had once given him some painkillers, but they had not been particularly effective. Zhou Wenju's anesthetic still needed to be tested, however. He hoped they could find an effective method of anesthesia. If they solved that problem, performing surgery in the future would become much easier.
Liang Dazhuang soon returned with Hu Xiaotian's surgical instrument case, and Hu Xiaotian unhurriedly began sterilizing the instruments.
The middle-aged scholar withdrew into the courtyard. The short, stout man approached him and asked anxiously, "Big Brother, do you really trust them?"
The middle-aged scholar sighed. "What else can we do? You know that if anything happens to the young chief, the chief won't spare any of us..." Before he could finish, the stout man's expression changed. He slowly nodded. "Our only option now is to take a gamble-to treat a dead horse as though it were still alive!"
The middle-aged scholar shot him a glare, clearly reproaching him for his choice of words.
Just then, Hu Xiaotian came out. Both men immediately stopped talking when they saw him. The stout man promptly arranged his features into a fierce scowl, while the middle-aged scholar remained exceedingly polite. "What can we do for you, Lord Hu?" For the moment, at least, they still needed Hu Xiaotian to save someone, so they had to treat him courteously.
"Your young master has lost too much blood," Hu Xiaotian said. "He needs it replenished."
"How do we replenish it?"
"We find a suitable source of blood and transfuse it into him," Hu Xiaotian said. "So all of us need to undergo a blood-matching test to see whether our blood types are compatible with the patient's."
These men had never heard of transfusions or blood matching.
