The matter had come up rather suddenly, and it was a major one. Secretary Liao had planned to read the documents before discussing it properly with Director Chang, but then-
"Oh, that's nothing. Once I've applied for approval from above, I'll let you know right away," Director Chang agreed without hesitation.
"Thank you." Ji Ting had always believed in returning favors. "Since you've helped me, I'll help you raise the accuracy of your missile trajectory-change analysis to the figure I mentioned."
Director Chang froze for a moment, then smiled so broadly his eyes narrowed to slits. "No need to be so polite with me. Come on, eat. The food will get cold."
Watching the old man and the young man pick up their chopsticks, Secretary Liao sat there holding a steamed twisted bun, utterly dumbfounded.
After dinner, the two of them saw Ji Ting to the main gate.
As soon as he was gone, Secretary Liao spun around. "You agreed without even reading the documents? Aren't you being a little too careless as director?"
"You're always overthinking everything." Director Chang certainly didn't consider himself careless, and began laying out his reasoning point by point. "You saw Little Ji's abilities for yourself today. All afternoon, there wasn't a single thing he didn't understand. Even I couldn't rattle off all those complicated figures like that. It was as if they were printed in his brain."
"Even if..."
"Even setting aside Little Ji himself, he's still President Ji's younger brother. We've only just entered into a partnership with Shili. Unless there's something wrong with his head, he wouldn't use this to set us up."
Secretary Liao gave him an irritated look, though he had to admit he was already mostly convinced.
One look at his expression told Director Chang he no longer objected.
