The question left Ji Ting a little bewildered. He looked at Ji Yanzhi blankly. "What thoughts?"
"Look, he doesn't want money, and he doesn't want me to do anything for him. What else could it be?" Ji Yanzhi could barely hide the amusement in his eyes, but he still pretended to be puzzled. "You're so smart. Help me figure it out?"
Ji Ting's fingers curled at his side, and he suddenly felt at a loss. Does Ji Yanzhi think I... have ulterior motives?
Ji Yanzhi froze, the amusement abruptly vanishing from his eyes. "No!"
"Wha..." Ji Ting looked at him in confusion. "No what?"
Ji Yanzhi had only wanted to tease him, never expecting it to backfire. He suddenly felt a little bad. "I misspoke just now. Xu Ren's teacher is willing to help me because he wants what's best for me. I'm sure of it."
Ji Ting looked at him. "Is that really what you think?"
"Yes." Ji Yanzhi met his eyes and nodded.
Ji Ting hesitantly pressed his lips together. Only after a while did he ask, "Then if he helps you again in the future, will you still suspect him of having bad intentions toward you?"
Ji Yanzhi's lips parted slightly. He hesitated, then stepped up to Ji Ting and gently took his hand. "You might not know this, but in all these years, he's the only person who's stood by me unconditionally. How should I describe that feeling..."
Ji Yanzhi lowered his gaze to the hand he held in his palm. "It makes me feel secure, as though, as long as he's there, I'm finally allowed to make mistakes too."
