With a soft thud, Ji Ting shut the car door he had just opened.
He walked over and looked at Ling Xi's grief-stricken, indignant face. "All right, then I'll take revenge on you."
Ling Xi stiffened, holding his breath as he gritted his teeth and stood his ground. "You think saying that will scare me?"
"Mm, good that you're not scared." Ji Ting nodded, then took his phone from his pocket. "I looked into it before I came. Qin Zaiye's past actions may constitute a breach of duty. The sentence should be between five and eight years in prison."
With that, he raised his phone and pointed the camera at Ling Xi. "We'll have the video as proof. If you're willing to serve his sentence for him, I agree."
Ling Xi sucked in a sharp breath. "Why should I volunteer? You've been deliberately framing Qin Zaiye from the start. Neither of us should go to prison!"
"Ling Xi." Ji Ting lifted his gaze from the screen, his expression utterly impassive. "I've given you another chance to save Qin Zaiye. Are you going to let this one slip away too?"
Memories of the past struck Ling Xi's heart like a sledgehammer. His pupils contracted, then began to tremble faintly.
"Do you know that was your only chance to save Qin Zaiye?"
"It was your incompetence that condemned your lover to prison forever."
Those two sentences echoed endlessly in his head. Ling Xi's breathing grew rapid and ragged, every inhale a desperate struggle to snatch what little air remained.
Just then, Ji Ting spoke again, indifferent. "You failed to get the letter of forgiveness before, and that got Qin Zaiye locked up. This time, I'm putting the choice entirely in your hands. Decide for yourself."
Ling Xi's gaze was already flickering, but
