"Aaaah!"
Ling Xi's scream abruptly tore through the air. The veins in his neck bulged like venomous snakes, and his fingers contorted as he frantically clawed at his face.
He sprang from his chair like a fish tossed onto shore, only to crash into the table and fall because he could not see. He went berserk like a rabid dog chained in place.
His mouth had been half open when Ji Ting poured the orange juice over him. Now, mixed with saliva, it slid past his spasming Adam's apple and into his windpipe. Ling Xi clawed at his throat in terror, then suddenly doubled over with a hoarse, choking cough. Drool mingled with the juice he had yet to swallow, trailing in revolting, sticky strands from his chin.
Ji Ting looked down at him without a flicker of emotion. Just then, the private room's door was flung open.
The door slammed against the wall, making Ling Xi shudder. Ji Yanzhi's shadow filled the doorway, reflected in his clouded eyes, and his body went into spasms from sheer terror.
Red crept into the corners of Ji Yanzhi's eyes. With every step he took, the violence in his expression deepened.
Seeing this, Ji Ting stepped forward and caught his wrist. "Let's go outside first and let the State Security Bureau officers come in."
Ji Yanzhi stood rigidly in place, his fists clenched so tightly that the veins on the backs of his hands bulged.
Ji Ting understood how he felt. If Ji Yanzhi had been the one targeted today, he probably would not have been able to stay rational either.
"Ji Yanzhi, there'll be time later."
Once Ji Ting finally persuaded him to leave, Team Leader Liang of the State Security Bureau's operations team immediately led his men into the private room.
