The name seemed to have been buried deep in rotting earth long ago. Unearthed once more, it felt so unfamiliar to Ji Yanzhi that centuries might have passed.
Why had Lin Qing suddenly returned after disappearing for so long? Had she simply come home, or did she have some other purpose?
"Eldest Young Master?" the butler called.
Ji Yanzhi turned and gestured for Wang Mian to leave, but Wang Mian stayed put. "You haven't told me the bad news yet!"
"Out."
Muttering under his breath, Wang Mian reluctantly left.
Once the door closed, Ji Yanzhi asked in a low voice, "Did Lin Qing say anything after she came back?"
"She asked about the Second Young Master as soon as she arrived. When she learned he wasn't here, she asked where he'd gone. I said I didn't know, and she went upstairs." The butler lowered his voice. "I had a servant listen outside her door. She seems to be packing."
Ji Yanzhi fell silent for a moment. "Understood."
He lowered the phone from his ear and called Liao Kai in.
"Take two people to the Old Residence and bring Lin Qing here. If she refuses, tell her Ji Ting is with me."
"Yes, sir."
After Liao Kai left, Wang Mian came knocking again. "Can I ask now?"
Ji Yanzhi glanced at him. "Starting next month, you'll be transferred to the group's automotive subsidiary as vice president of technology, primarily responsible for AI technology and the ADAS module."
It was clearly a promotion, but Wang Mian shot over to the desk. "You... I-my R&D work here is going perfectly well, and now you suddenly want me to take charge of automotive technology? I'm not going!"
"You've been responsible for AI all these years. Moving to the Automotive Department only changes your focus.
