"Yosuke, what are you watching?"

Koichi, who had been about to head out for lunch, came over curiously.

Yosuke seemed quite absorbed in whatever he was watching.

The race was tomorrow, so they could take a little time to relax today. Koichi had given Golden Masterpiece a comprehensive checkup that morning.

All the readings were normal. Now they just had to wait for tomorrow afternoon's race.

"I'm watching a horse racing commentator from a newspaper. He happens to be discussing this Kikuka Sho prep race."

Hitachi Yosuke took out one earbud as he spoke.

He had to admit that the commentator had a pretty good eye. After all, he had ranked Golden Masterpiece first.

"You actually watch this stuff?"

Koichi did not put much faith in such commentary. Apart from a few personal opinions, their assessments were all based on data.

But things were never that simple on the track.

No matter how good you were, if others targeted you, even tremendous ability could be difficult to bring into play.

"We've got the day off anyway. I'm just watching to pass the time."

Hitachi Yosuke turned his head and smiled.

Still, he felt the assessment made sense. Golden Masterpiece was a Double Crown Winner, after all, and undoubtedly the favorite. The other Racehorses would have a hard time challenging for the win.

But upsets were perfectly normal on the racetrack, too.

"You'd be better off watching a few more dramas. I've found some good ones lately."

Koichi had recently become hooked on watching dramas.

Of course, he had not slacked off on training.

"Koichi, want to hear this commentator's assessment of Asho?"

"Nah, watch it yourself. Once you're done, we can go out for lunch."

Koichi found a seat in the lobby as well.

He was not particularly hungry yet.
