The group hurried deeper into the temple, meeting no obstacles along the way. In fact, the entire temple had a very strange layout. Apart from a stone statue built directly opposite the entrance, there was only a long corridor beyond it, one that seemed almost endless.
The corridor was deathly silent. Towering guardian statues lined both walls, and nothing echoed through it but their footsteps.
Li Wei could see the soul lights fleeing faster and faster, as though running and screaming. But he could neither hear their cries nor see exactly what was happening to them. Beyond those rapidly moving points of soul light, he had no way to confirm the situation.
"Stop!"
When they finally reached the end of the corridor, Li Wei signaled for the others to stop. Then he cautiously stepped forward and looked ahead.
Beyond the corridor lay an enormous underground cavern that also seemed to be part of the temple. Compared with the area outside, however, this place was far more dilapidated. The ground had split apart, the surrounding structures had collapsed, and a stone head the size of a bus lay smashed against the ground, staring at them with lifeless eyes.
Like a dead body.
Near the entrance to this hall, a campfire burned beside several tents and backpacks.
"It looks like this is where our teacher and the others set up camp."
