While Li Wei and Anthony were chatting, more passengers entered the carriage.
"I thought this train would be luxurious, but now that I see it, it's nothing special."
The lady at the front began passing judgment in a loud, shrill voice as soon as she entered, quickly attracting the attention of several other guests.
"Mother..."
The young woman beside her appeared to be her daughter. She had a lovely figure, wore a white silk dress, and had lively eyes. She was clearly uncomfortable with her mother making her the center of attention.
Her mother, however, seemed entirely unconcerned with her feelings. With her head held high, she surveyed the Salon Car like a goose inspecting its territory. Then she spotted Li Wei, and her eyes immediately lit up.
"Oh, damn. I'm getting out of here, boss."
Anthony muttered this under his breath, then stood and left his seat. Just then, the lady approached. She gave Anthony a casual nod, as though it were only natural that he should surrender his seat to her, then looked straight at Li Wei.
"May we sit here?"
"Of course. Please do."
Li Wei did not particularly mind. The Salon Car existed so passengers could get acquainted during long journeys. Anyone who did not want to meet other people had no reason to come here.
"I'm Joanna Bedrick, and this is my daughter, Lisa. Forgive my presumption, but you must be Mr. Li Wei, the celebrated detective known throughout the country."
"I wouldn't call myself a celebrated detective, but yes, I'm Li Wei."
Li Wei nodded to them both with a slight smile. The girl sitting beside him immediately flushed and lowered her head, while Mrs. Bedrick gazed at him with shining eyes.
