The man nicknamed "Bucktooth" lived in a filthy slum in Fog City's Lower City. Houses built long ago stood everywhere with almost no planning. Though the cobbled streets themselves were fairly clean, the dilapidated houses on either side, which looked as though they had gone years without repairs, said everything about the neighborhood.
Bang!
The door was shoved open, and Inspector Lestrade strode inside aggressively, followed by Li Wei, who held his cane and looked perfectly at ease.
"No one here."
"Isn't that only natural?"
Compared with Lestrade, Li Wei was quite calm.
"Assuming that fellow really is connected to this string of cases, he was bound to flee. In fact, I'd even prepared myself to find his corpse here."
As Li Wei spoke, he looked around.
"Well, judging by what we've found, at least it hasn't come to that."
"What do we do now?"
"We're here anyway. Let's see whether there are any clues."
Unlike detectives who had to sneak around like petty thieves, Li Wei had his status as a police consultant to protect him, allowing him to turn the place upside down openly. That was why he seemed so calm. In fact, he really was quite relaxed at the moment. Not finding the fellow's corpse meant the other side had yet to notice his investigation and still believed it had been an accident.
With that thought, Li Wei began making his way around the house.
It was a typical home with one bedroom and a sitting room. There was a bed inside, while a stove, some clutter, and cabinets occupied the outer room. Bucktooth had apparently been quite nervous at the time. He had not even had time to close the cabinet doors he had opened, and an open iron box lay discarded on the table.
