The place looked like an antique shop.
Li Wei walked over and took a closer look. A sign reading "Finest Antiques" hung above it, but the front door was locked. Not only that, a... police officer stood outside.
"Hey, what are you doing here?"
The officer noticed Li Wei and hurried over. But when he got a clear look at his face, he jumped in surprise, snapped to attention, and saluted.

In modern terms, he would have been the head of a district, and he was entitled to inquire into any administrative affairs within it.
"Yes, hello. What happened here?"
Li Wei nodded toward the antique shop as he asked, and the officer hastened to answer.
"Sir Li Wei, a crime took place here. We're currently investigating."

"A robbery and murder."
"Oh? What are the details?"
"It appears someone broke into the antique shop to steal something, was discovered by the owner, then killed him and fled."
"Stealing from an antique shop? That's a new one."
Li Wei frowned. Most thieves stole gold, silver, or jewelry. The average thief wouldn't even know what an antique was worth after stealing it. Of course, someone might have wanted a particular antique and hired a thief to steal it.
Still, if the owner had caught the thief, their skills clearly weren't up to scratch.
Of course, whether the owner was an ordinary shopkeeper remained to be seen.
