And just like that, Kia moved into Li Wei's Tower too.
Of course, Li Wei also introduced Kia to Alice and the Little Mermaid. He did not say much about Alice, only that he had taken her in after investigating a case. As for the Little Mermaid... she came as quite a surprise to Kia.
Still, Kia had already seen Ovelia's Three-Headed Hound and those Alien Monsters. Compared to them, the Little Mermaid was much cuter.
Arranging a place for Kia to stay, however, gave Li Wei quite a headache. She might have been a child, but she was no ordinary child.
The reason lay in the luggage Kia had brought to Fog City.
She had brought a Difference Engine!
And it was the latest model, at that!
According to Kia, she needed these Difference Engines for her research project. Whatever their computing power might have been, the Difference Engines of this era were truly terrifying in size. The constantly spinning bearings and gears alone took up an entire wall, never mind installing a Steam Power Pipeline, connecting wires, assembling components...
Li Wei did not mind. He had already bought all the houses near the Tower and knocked through the walls to use them as warehouses. Now that Kia wanted to turn them into a mechanical workshop, he had no objections. The Little Mermaid and Alice, on the other hand, were particularly interested in the Difference Engine Kia had brought, and came over to watch whenever they had time.
That was hardly surprising. Never mind the two of them-even Li Wei found this wondrous mechanical creation fascinating, especially when he watched Kia tapping away at the keyboard with a serious expression, her eyes fixed on the screen before her.
The Difference Engine's screen was not a cathode-ray tube or plasma
