"How did it go?"
Li Wei asked as he looked at Ovelia. She shook her head.
"I asked the Holy Lord Church bishops in the Delicat District. They hadn't heard of any operation to wipe out cultists."
"Now this is interesting."
At Ovelia's answer, Li Wei's eyes only shone brighter with excitement.
There were really only two possible explanations for this.
First, the old woman was getting on in years. Her memory was poor, she was confused, and none of it had ever happened.
Second, the Holy Lord Church had concealed the incident for some reason.
Li Wei was a detective. Detectives and police worked with evidence, and the mysterious, eerie stone door they had found at the bottom of the lake clearly contradicted the first possibility. Since it existed, there had to be an explanation for its presence.
Put simply, why was this thing here?
It was like a detective movie. When a body turned up at a crime scene, the police and detectives would also ask why the victim had died there.
You had to provide an explanation.
If someone said the man liked the girls here and came by every few days for some fun, that was highly plausible.
If someone said, "I don't know. I didn't even know there was a dead body here," that was much less credible.
Especially when the crime had taken place on their turf.
Given the Holy Lord Church's policies, it should at least have made a big show of something like this: how the Church had rid the people of a menace, eradicated a cult, protected the peace, and so on. Then it would make a story out of it and put it in some holy text, ensuring that the locals would sing its praises for decades, a century, or
