Naruto brought Sasuke back to Amegakure and settled him in.
Obito came as soon as he heard. "How's Sasuke doing?"
Naruto said, "His life is out of danger for now, but he's still unconscious."
Obito said, "I see..."
Naruto asked, "Got some time?"
Obito asked, "Why?"
Naruto said, "Keep an eye on Indra and Black Zetsu for me. Just observe, don't interfere. Report to me whenever anything happens. From here on, we're racing against time..."
Obito was both moved and impressed. "You've really got nerves of steel. That guy nearly killed Sasuke in one blow, yet you're willing to let him obtain the Rinnegan, even become the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki. Calling it dancing on a knife's edge wouldn't be an exaggeration..."
Naruto shrugged helplessly. "What choice do I have? Someone has to take the hit. Am I supposed to push Sasuke, you, or Madara to the front again? That would be truly inhumane."
Without commenting, Obito asked, "Heading to the Valley of the End?"
Naruto nodded. "That's what Madara and I agreed on."
Watching Naruto's back, Obito asked a pointed question. "Say, Naruto, if you really lose to Madara, do you actually intend to hand over leadership?"
Naruto stopped and glanced back, answering as though it were only natural. "Of course. Everything we do is to protect our future. As long as we share the same principles, whoever's capable should lead."
"Not just Madara. That includes you, Obito, and anyone who shares our goals. If it turns out any of you surpass me in ability and resolve, I'll hand over leadership at any time..."
Obito sighed in admiration. "You really are confident..."
Naruto smiled. "Or perhaps arrogant."
Obito smiled. "Confidence backed by ability is confidence. Without ability, it's arrogance. I acknowledge you. Go on... I'll be waiting for good news!"
"Thanks..."
