Chakra and Byakugan awakening 402 Fear and protective anger awaken her abilities when a beast attacks Aiki. The attack was secretly arranged by Aiki.
Rabbit Hair Needle mastery 407 Develops the technique with Ryūshiki through one month of Tsukuyomi training. Combining hair control with Byakugan precision lets her target chakra points; her ocular training produces progress comparable to ten years of her previous practice.
Eighty Gods Vacuum Attack mastery 408 Masters the chakra-circulation technique after three months in Tsukuyomi. Her demonstration produces 57 powerful fists; “eighty” is a figurative name rather than a required count.
Shikotsumyaku and All-Killing Ash Bones 410 Learns bone manipulation and combines it with Ryūshiki’s Gray Cursed Seal, eventually applying the seal throughout a bone rather than only to its surface.
All-Seeing Eye Rift mastery 412 Spends a year training inside Tsukuyomi while one day passes in reality. Gains the means to conceal a realm from the clan’s surveillance and change its coordinates.
Chakra Fruit consumption — Middle God 414 Eats the moon-nurtured fruit after guarding the God Tree for about a century. Gains immense power and learns Yin–Yang Release.
Childbirth — reduced to Lower God 414 522 Hagoromo and Hamura inherit substantial portions of her chakra. The loss lowers her rank and removes the chakra she needs to awaken the Tenseigan.
Infinite Tsukuyomi — restored to Middle God 414 Recovers chakra through Infinite Tsukuyomi and creates approximately 100,000 White Zetsu before releasing the technique.
Enhanced resurrection 348 Her Ten-Tails devours the Ten-Tails that Indra has become, supplying the Ōtsutsuki sacrifice missing from her original fruit. Naruto judges her chakra to be at least twice that of the Kaguya he remembers.
Tenseigan awakening 351 352 Reclaims Hamura’s inherited chakra from Toneri, transforming her pale Byakugan into brilliant blue Tenseigan.
Ten-Tails replacement — Middle God retained 368 414 Her power source is replaced by Indra’s Ten-Tails, reducing her chakra and temporarily leaving her in a little-girl form. The Tenseigan prevents the expected fall to a lower rank.

Background / History

Childhood and Aiki’s Death

Kaguya spends her first century in a perpetually snowy temple in another dimension. At ten years old, she has recently gained human form but can still appear as a jade rabbit. Her attendant, Aiki, raises her with an affection closer to that of a sister or mother than a servant. Kaguya initially rejects combat because she cannot bear the thought of killing; she accepts training only after Aiki explains that fighting can protect others 402 403.

At her hundredth birthday, Kaguya learns that the clan’s coming-of-age ritual requires her to kill Aiki. The practice deliberately destroys the compassion formed during a century of companionship. Kaguya refuses and attempts to escape with her, but Aiki kills herself to prevent the arriving messengers from punishing Kaguya. The loss marks the beginning of Kaguya’s cold, withdrawn demeanor 403.

Ryūshiki’s Mentorship

After Momoshiki and Kinshiki escort her to Takamagahara, Isshiki declares himself her master on the grounds that he is stronger. Kaguya outwardly submits, despite feeling no attachment to the clan. Ryūshiki intervenes and obtains permission to take her to Watatsumi Shrine for several days 404 405.

Ryūshiki approaches her because her mother, Nayotake, once saved him from suicide. He recognizes Kaguya’s grief and her willingness to die as the Ten-Tails’ sacrifice. His arguments for survival and coexistence persuade her to keep living and seek strength of her own. Through accelerated Tsukuyomi training, he helps her develop her hair techniques, close-range attacks, bone weapons, and concealment ability 405 406 407 410 412.

Their conversations also expose the scale of the clan’s destruction. Kaguya learns that Nayotake tried to spare humans by nurturing a God Tree with a natural moon, then chose death rather than obey an order to sacrifice a vessel. Before their separation, Ryūshiki gives Kaguya his Black Tomoe necklace as a keepsake and entrusts an unwanted baby monkey to her care 411 412.

Rebellion in Mitsuki Country

Isshiki brings Kaguya to Mitsuki Country and releases a Ten-Tails. He orders her to mark a human vessel with Kāma before becoming its sacrifice. Kaguya instead releases the monkey somewhere safe, refuses to take a vessel, and asks him to use the moon to nurture the tree without exterminating the population 413.

When Isshiki rejects her proposal, she attacks him. He overpowers her and seals her chakra, but Ryūshiki’s Izanagi-charged necklace saves her from being thrown to the Ten-Tails. Kaguya reappears behind Isshiki and pierces him with an All-Killing Ash Bone. He survives by severing his lower body and shrinking the remainder before escaping 413.

The necklace shatters after saving her. Ryūshiki promises to conceal the consequences of her rebellion for as long as he can. Kaguya then uses the All-Seeing Eye Rift to hide Mitsuki Country and change its spatial coordinates, cutting it off from the clan’s surveillance 413.

The God Tree and Her Sealing

Unable to stop the released Ten-Tails—and lacking spacetime dōjutsu at that point—Kaguya watches it absorb the original moon’s essence and become a God Tree. She remains beneath it for about a century, keeping humans away from its life-draining reach. When it finally bears fruit during a period of warfare, she eats the fruit and ends the wars 414.

After becoming beloved by the people, she gives birth to Hagoromo and Hamura. The chakra they inherit leaves her weaker, and fear of the clan’s arrival develops into an urgent desire to recover power. She casts Infinite Tsukuyomi, creates roughly 100,000 White Zetsu, and then releases it. Those transformations turn her sons against her 414.

Following a month-long battle, Hagoromo and Hamura seal her away and create the later moon. Immediately before the sealing, Kaguya creates Black Zetsu through Yin–Yang Release, charging him with reclaiming the world’s chakra 414.

Resurrection and Reconciliation

Black Zetsu spends a thousand years working toward her return. His eventual scheme forces Indra to become a Ten-Tails, which Kaguya’s own Ten-Tails consumes. She resurrects stronger than before and confronts Naruto, Sasuke, Obito, and Madara 348 358.

Naruto offers cooperation against the Ōtsutsuki, but Kaguya demands his chakra and refuses to trust him. During the ensuing dimensional battle, she kills Sasuke with an Ash Bone Claw, only for Obito to reverse his death. She later drains Toneri to awaken the Tenseigan, bombards Earth with lunar meteors, and escalates to the Final Truth-Seeking Orb 349 350 351 352 353 355.

Kushina finally reaches Kaguya through a conversation about motherhood, protection, and failed communication. Kaguya agrees to trust Naruto and prepares to release Infinite Tsukuyomi herself so the White Zetsu will survive. Indra’s consciousness then resurfaces and attempts to seize her body 358.

By the battle’s aftermath, her original Ten-Tails has become independent of her within Naruto, while Indra’s Ten-Tails replaces her power source. Kaguya is left asleep in a younger form. Later, she recounts her history to Naruto on the moon and accepts his affection as her grandson 368 414.

Postwar Life

Kaguya grows crops on the moon and uses them to produce scarce Elixirs without extracting chakra from people. She also becomes a regular participant in the Shinobi Grand Tournament’s annual Ōtsutsuki emergency drills 425 448.

For the ninth tournament, she disguises herself as Shinshiki in an elaborate staged invasion. After staying awake for half a month to prepare, she falls asleep from exhaustion, and Minato carries her back to the moon 449.

Before the journey to God Valley, she joins the Ten Great Shinobi for Ryūshiki’s briefing. His return brings her gratitude, but also grief over the sacrifice he made to change the clan’s fate 527.

Appearance

Kaguya’s revived adult form has snow-white skin, long blue-white hair, brown rabbit-ear-shaped horns, white robes, and an initially emotionless Byakugan gaze 348.

  • Eyes: Pale Byakugan become brilliant blue after her Tenseigan awakening; her Rinne Sharingan occupies her forehead 352 355.
  • Hair: Long enough to fan out behind her and form restraints, projectiles, or thick defensive barriers 348 407 356.
  • Rabbit forms: Appears as a small jade rabbit in childhood and a gigantic, white, red-eyed Rabbit during battle 402 355.
  • Younger form: Temporarily becomes a little girl after the postwar transfer of her Ten-Tails connection 368.
  • Horns: Regrow after she consumes the Chakra Fruit 414.

Personality

Kaguya’s original disposition is playful, compassionate, and strongly protective. She trains to defend Aiki rather than pursue status, refuses to kill her attendant, and later rejects Kāma because she will not make an innocent human suffer for her resurrection. Her rebellion against Isshiki is undertaken for people she has never met 402 403 406 413.

Her coldness conceals grief and fear rather than an absence of feeling. Aiki’s death leaves her detached and uncertain of her future; Ryūshiki gradually draws out her curiosity, humor, and determination. She is observant and persistent in training, though comparisons with his overwhelming ability can discourage her 405 407 408 409.

After childbirth, fear of the Ōtsutsuki and anxiety over lost chakra become consuming. The narrative connects her increasing fixation on chakra to the curse-like influence within the Chakra Fruit, weakened in her case by the fruit’s inferior quality. Her distrust of humans coexists with a wish to reconnect, making Kushina’s offer of family and understanding decisive 357 358 414.

Following reconciliation, Kaguya shows affection toward Naruto and shyly asks to hold his and Hinata’s child. Her commitment to the staged Shinshiki invasion also shows a willingness to work for the world’s preparedness, even at the cost of severe exhaustion 414 449.

Abilities & Skills

Byakugan

Kaguya awakens the Byakugan while defending Aiki. Ryūshiki later teaches her to use it both for precise perception and as the switch that accelerates Ōtsutsuki chakra circulation 402 408.

  • Guides Rabbit Hair Needle toward an opponent’s chakra points 407.
  • Observes internal chakra pathways closely enough to learn Eighty Gods Vacuum Attack 408.
  • Identifies Madara as Indra’s reincarnation and examines Naruto and Sasuke’s sealing powers 349 350.

Hair Manipulation and Rabbit Hair Needle

Developed under Ryūshiki, her hair techniques progress from soft restraints to hardened weapons and detached needle-like projectiles 407.

  • Rabbit Hair Needle: Combines Byakugan targeting with hair projectiles to obstruct chakra points 407.
  • Restraint and impalement: Extends her hair to seize and pierce A-Juan 356.
  • Defense: Forms a layered barrier that rapidly fills gaps opened by Obito’s Kamui 356.

Eighty Gods Vacuum Attack

A palm-launched barrage of powerful chakra fists, learned through sustained practice in Ryūshiki’s Tsukuyomi world 408.

  • Requires precise chakra circulation through the abdomen, eyes, and palm 408.
  • Strengthens her close- and mid-range combat 407.
  • Forces Naruto to expend nearly all his strength to repel a barrage that she has deliberately held back 350.

Shikotsumyaku and All-Killing Ash Bones

Shikotsumyaku lets Kaguya manipulate her bones. Applying Ryūshiki’s Gray Cursed Seal throughout them produces All-Killing Ash Bones, which make most struck targets crumble from within 410.

  • Fires bones as projectiles or extends them directly from her body 350 355 357.
  • Uses an Ash Bone Claw to disintegrate Sasuke 350.
  • In Rabbit form, releases a vast rain of Ash Bones across the battlefield 355.
  • The attacks can be intercepted by Limbo shadows, avoided with Kamui intangibility, or erased by Naruto 350 351 354.

Amenominaka and Yomotsu Hirasaka

Her spacetime abilities combine wholesale battlefield relocation with smaller portals used for movement and ambushes 349 350 351.

  • Amenominaka: Moves the combatants into dimensions containing lava, acid, desert, ice and snow, supergravity, and the central Origin Ball Dimension 350 351 352 354.
  • Yomotsu Hirasaka: Opens portals beside or behind targets, allowing sudden attacks from unexpected directions 350 351.
  • Environmental merging: Merges with the acid dimension and intensifies its acid until the opponents’ Susanoo defenses begin dissolving 351.
  • Origin Ball Dimension: Provides direct access to chakra from people trapped in Infinite Tsukuyomi 355.
  • Obito can traverse her connected dimensions with Kamui, but cannot initially open a route directly outside them 352.

Tenseigan

Kaguya awakens her own Tenseigan by reclaiming Hamura’s chakra from Toneri rather than taking Hinata’s eyes 351 352.

  • Cuts thousands of meteors from the moon and sends them toward the Land of Rain 353.
  • Fires a beam that pierces Naruto and suppresses regeneration 353.
  • Applies a powerful gravitational pull in the Supergravity Dimension 354.
  • Automatic Mode: Leaves her consciousness under the Mantra Diadem’s torment while her body fights instinctively. Its counters adapt, but the crushing gravity slows its reactions 354.
  • Helps preserve her Middle God rank despite the chakra lost through her Ten-Tails replacement 414.

Chakra Absorption and Yin–Yang Release

Kaguya can reclaim chakra directly and gains Yin–Yang Release after eating the fruit 357 414.

  • Absorbs chakra left behind by dissolving Susanoo constructs 351.
  • Drains Naruto through physical contact while Yin–Yang Release prevents his Flying Thunder God escape 357.
  • Creates Black Zetsu as a manifestation of her hatred and will immediately before her sealing 358 414.
  • Reattaches her severed head during combat 357.

Infinite Tsukuyomi and White Zetsu

Kaguya uses Infinite Tsukuyomi to recover chakra and transform humans into soldiers 414.

  • Creates approximately 100,000 White Zetsu during her original reign 414.
  • Deploys 90,000 White Zetsu against the shinobi outside Amegakure after her resurrection 349.
  • Can release the technique without killing the White Zetsu; Naruto and Sasuke’s Hagoromo-derived release method would destroy them 358.

Final Truth-Seeking Orb

Also called the Expansive Truth-Seeking Orb, this technique combines wind, fire, water, earth, lightning, yin, and yang into an enormous, expanding mass 355.

  • Draws on chakra gathered from Infinite Tsukuyomi victims through the Origin Ball Dimension 355.
  • Is intended to destroy everything when Kaguya abandons restraint 355.

All-Seeing Eye Rift

A concealment technique taught by Ryūshiki as her last lifeline 411 412.

  • Hides a realm from the Ōtsutsuki’s All-Seeing Eye 413.
  • Changes its spatial coordinates, preventing the clan from simply following its previous location 413.
  • Allows her to conceal Mitsuki Country after rebelling against Isshiki 413.

Sustainable Elixir Production

Kaguya produces Ōtsutsuki-style Elixirs from crops she cultivates on the moon 425.

  • Restores energy and increases chakra 425.
  • Uses a renewable alternative to the clan’s chakra-extracting methods 425.
  • Production is slow enough that the medicines remain scarce 425.

Combat Limitations

  • Kaguya admits that she is not very good at fighting, despite her Middle God rank 414.
  • Her fear of pain initially obstructs bone-manipulation training and makes her hesitate to merge with the acid dimension 351 410.
  • Naruto and Sasuke’s Six Paths sealing powers remain a decisive threat, prompting her to target Sasuke first 350.
  • Obito’s combined intangibility and time reversal repeatedly frustrate her attempts to eliminate the opposing team 351 356.

Equipment / Items

  • Black Tomoe necklace — Ryūshiki’s farewell keepsake, secretly charged with Izanagi. Saves her from Isshiki’s attempt to sacrifice her, then shatters during the confrontation 412 413.
  • Performance headset — Worn during her Shinshiki impersonation; Hinata notices it and recognizes the staged invasion 449.

Relationships

  • Aiki — Attendant, caretaker, and first teacher. Their familial bond motivates Kaguya’s early training; Aiki dies protecting her from the clan’s coming-of-age ritual 402 403.
  • Ryūshiki — Mentor, confidant, and benefactor. Restores her desire to live, teaches her signature techniques, and covertly protects her rebellion. Kaguya’s gratitude remains intertwined with grief over his later sacrifice 405 407 413 527.
  • Taren / King Tarine — Father and Ōtsutsuki ruler. Kaguya has never met him during her temple upbringing; his reforms limit some clan abuses but do not end its exploitation 403 411.
  • Nayotake — Mother, remembered for exceptional gentleness. Her refusal to sacrifice a vessel gives Kaguya a personal example of resistance to the clan 405 411.
  • Isshiki Ōtsutsuki — Assigned partner and superior, later her enemy. Attempts to sacrifice her after she refuses his orders; her Ash Bone ambush nearly kills him 404 413.
  • Hagoromo and Hamura — Sons who inherit her chakra and eventually seal her after opposing the creation of White Zetsu. Her resentment is stronger toward Hagoromo, though her maternal regret remains important to her reconciliation 352 358 414.
  • Black Zetsu — Creation and devoted agent who calls her his mother. Works for a thousand years to fulfill her wishes, although Kaguya initially never truly considers him her child 358 414.
  • Indra Ōtsutsuki — Grandson used as the sacrifice for her enhanced resurrection. His consciousness later attempts to take control of her, and his Ten-Tails ultimately becomes her replacement power source 348 358 368.
  • Toneri Ōtsutsuki — Hamura’s descendant. Kaguya drains his inherited chakra to awaken the Tenseigan but refuses Black Zetsu’s suggestion to kill him 351 352.
  • Naruto Uzumaki — Initially an opponent, later an ally who affectionately treats her as his grandmother. Offers coexistence, comforts her, and promises further training. He later chooses her safety over a Divine-Grade Chakra Fruit 349 414 500.
  • Kushina Uzumaki — Reaches her through shared motherhood and offers her a place in Naruto’s family. Helps Kaguya distinguish protecting her children from controlling them 358.
  • Minato Namikaze — Part of her postwar family circle; carries her home to the moon after she exhausts herself during the tournament performance 414 449.
  • Hinata Hyuga — Naruto’s partner, whose child Kaguya hopes to hold. Kaguya agrees to postpone training with Naruto until after the baby is born 414.

Trivia

  • The novel explicitly does not follow the anime’s Land of Ancestors storyline for Kaguya’s past 414.
  • Mitsuki Country’s original moon is consumed during the God Tree’s growth. The later moon is created by Hagoromo and Hamura when they seal Kaguya 414.
  • Her original Chakra Fruit is described as inferior even to common-grade fruit, yet it raises her to Middle God 522.
  • Tournament spectators become familiar enough with her annual emergency-drill appearances to bring cameras specifically to watch her throw punches 448.
