With the Chief killing the Gold Man Adrian, this heavy memory came to an end.

The conversation between the Chief and the Gold Man had indeed dispelled a considerable portion of Malcador's doubts. At the very least, he now understood part of the reason the Gold Men had become so insane.

The most outstanding individuals among humanity had embarked upon the mad path of ascension not only because unrestrained technological development had increasingly eroded their humanity, but more importantly because they had detected the immense threat posed by the Warp.

This perhaps ran contrary to conventional understanding. It was generally believed that when humanity entered the Dark Age of Technology, the Warp was in a rare state of calm. Even Slaanesh, the fourth Chaos God, had not yet been awakened by the Eldar's corruption at that point in time.

Yet the top scientists of the Dark Age of Technology had been terrifyingly capable. From the faintest traces, they had sensed the surging currents beneath the Warp's tranquil surface.

Perhaps they had sought truth. Perhaps they had sought transcendence. Or perhaps, as Adrian had said, they had pursued greater power with which to fight the enemies of the Warp. The Gold Men alliance had indeed embarked upon a path of madness.

Lox's thoughts, however, drifted in another direction. When he heard that the Gold Men's goal had been to create a god for humanity, his heart abruptly skipped a beat.

He thought of the God-Emperor. This god of humanity had been born from the Emperor's divine power, part of the Dark King's authority, and the unseen nourishment of countless human beliefs and souls.

Perhaps the top scientists of the Dark Age of Technology had been willing to destroy the entire age in order to create an existence like the God-Emperor?
