A remnant root?
Lin Changheng's heart stirred slightly. He was rather sensitive to those words.
Then he heard Old Daoist Fang ask, "Pill Master Lin, you've immersed yourself in the pill Dao for years, so naturally you're well versed in medicinal properties. Could you take a look for me?"
"Very well."
Lin Changheng did not refuse. Raising his brows slightly, he motioned for Old Daoist Fang to open the wooden box. Only after confirming there were no hidden weapons triggered by opening it did he take it to examine.
What met his eyes was indeed a piece of root, preserved fairly intact.
Grayish brown, roughly half a foot long and two fingers thick, it still had half-damp spirit soil clinging to its surface. It looked freshly dug.
Even with only the root remaining, Lin Changheng keenly detected a trace of spiritual energy lingering within it.
"With this thickness, it's a second-tier spirit plant."
Lin Changheng immediately reached a conclusion.
Over the past two months, Lin Changheng had not been idle either. To determine what state the leaves of the [nine-leaf violet cinnabar fungus] indicated, he had obtained several texts recording medicinal herbs and Treasure Plants from the Xu Family and two shops in the market ward that sold books on the subject.
He had also confirmed that "all nine leaves present" meant the [nine-leaf violet cinnabar fungus] was mature and ready for use.
"This is a root of [earth vein yellow essence]."
Searching his memory, he soon found what he needed and said calmly, "Judging by the root's length and the way it intertwines, this plant was probably fifty years old."
"Fifty years?"
Old Daoist Fang immediately let out a breath, his expression relaxing. "Then the difference isn't too great. Looks like I didn't lose out too badly."
"Indeed."
