Seeing that she remained wary, Shi Chun could only stare at her. "Why are you always so prejudiced against me? How could I cheat you on this? You get one divine fire, then I get one. Once you've absorbed a real divine fire into your body, can I dig it back out?"
Gu Liani thought it over. That was true. Fine, she agreed.
They immediately brought out brush, ink, paper, and inkstone and each wrote a letter.
Shi Chun finished first and made a simple stone lock. In truth, he merely hollowed out a stone half the size of his palm, slipped the letter inside through a small hole, sealed the hole, and added a mark only he and Wu Jinliang understood. Then he summoned Chu Jingtang and Chen Wuji.
After handing the letter to Chu Jingtang, he instructed them, "Go to the exit. Keep out of sight of the ten elders stationed there as much as possible and give this to Wu Jinliang. Once he has it, you can read it if you want, but don't open it or peek along the way. I've marked it."
Sending two men to deliver one letter was a precaution. If something happened, at least one might escape and return with news. Otherwise, they would never know what had gone wrong. With enough men available, caution was only natural.
Otherwise, why bring so many people? To have them eat for nothing?
"All right." Chu Jingtang and Chen Wuji agreed. Before leaving, they glanced at Gu Liani nearby, who held her brush and pondered, looking as though she was racking her brains.
Soon after they left, Gu Liani breathed a sigh of relief and put down her brush. She picked up her letter and handed it to Shi Chun. "Hey, will this do?"
"It's
