"This Grand Array was left by our patriarch. Only after modifications and help from Fellow Daoist Lingxu of the Nine Splendors Grotto-Heaven did it take its present form. This array can transfer fortune, gather qi, and consolidate momentum..."
Dan Yuan enthusiastically explained it to the fellow Daoist beside him.
The two walked and paused along the way, getting along quite harmoniously.
Before he knew it, they had covered another stretch of road. Dan Yuan suddenly stopped and instinctively glanced back the way he had come, his brows drawing together slightly without his noticing.
"Fellow Daoist Dan Yuan, what's wrong?"
The two fellow Daoists beside him asked with concern at the same time.
"Nothing..." Dan Yuan shook his head and smiled. "Perhaps these past few days of hard work have left me a little dazed."
He turned around, ready to continue forward.
The evening light fell behind him, tracing five long shadows.
"Something's wrong!"
Dan Yuan whipped around and looked at the five shadows behind him, his pupils contracting. He had been the only person left in the hall earlier. How could there be five shadows?
"Fellow Daoist Dan Yuan, what's wrong?" The "fellow Daoist" beside him chuckled and repeated the question from moments before.
A jolt ran through Dan Yuan's heart, and his mind finally cleared of the haze obscuring it.
He immediately looked to his side. The "fellow Daoists," whose faces had seemed veiled in shadow, indistinct yet somehow unremarkable, had now quietly shed those shadows.
Jade Frost, Situ Kong, Li Yuanqing, Yu Ya.
Four people he knew all too well.
"You, you-"
Horror surged through Dan Yuan. He had known these four for years and knew they absolutely did not possess the uncanny abilities they had just displayed. Yet his instincts screamed that these were the people themselves.
