Hearing that utterly flat, emotionless "plea," Chu Mo nearly laughed in anger. He met Cen Lingyi's eyes, which seemed to hold a faint glimmer, and said solemnly:
"I'll tell you in the plainest, most direct terms possible."
"No."
The glimmer in Cen Lingyi's eyes dimmed. She murmured an "Oh," then lowered her gaze.
Chu Mo was somewhat surprised to see her react this way.
He had expected her to argue, or simply summon the Sun-Moon Twin Venerables, call in her allies for a battle, and borrow the Netherworld by force.
Just as she had forcibly seized the Jiang Household's Hidden Moon Golden Vault back then.
As though she had seen through his thoughts, Cen Lingyi shook her head. "Cultivators who have stepped onto the True Self Dao no longer owe karmic debts to Heaven's Will. If they refuse, they are free to refuse."
With that, she rose with a trace of disappointment, preparing to take her leave. Before she could speak, however, a soft chuckle drifted from the seat of honor.
"You are quite an intriguing person, Daoist Friend Cen. In that case, your request isn't entirely out of the question."
Cen Lingyi paused and looked up at him. A rare hint of curiosity appeared in her bright eyes.
Chu Mo considered the matter. He was not actually very worried about others prying into the Netherworld. Anyone who pried into what belonged to him would only deliver everything of their own into his hands.
He had refused her earlier because agreeing outright would have been too suspicious.
But then he had thought of Ten Thousand Ages, One Body.
With this Divine Ability, he could assimilate his past selves and achieve the wondrous state of being the sole self. Yet he had no way to deal with his future selves.
