Background / History
Chu Mo is a transmigrator whose player panel accompanies him into his new world. Initially, it contains an inventory of weapons, food, medicine, and three Yin-Yang Jades but shows no cultivation progress. Learning a qi-gathering method finally activates its cultivation information 1.
He enters the Duo’e Sect with immediate doubts about its respectability. Limited resources make ordinary cultivation slow: a Spell Coin supplies sixty experience points over several days, but progress drops sharply once its numinous vitality is exhausted. After reaching Qi Refining, he chooses the Dawncloud One-Qi Profound Cavern Scripture from the sect’s three high-grade spirit methods 1 2 3.
Jiang Yunya arranges his placement with talisman maker Liu Xian. Chu Mo becomes one of three succession candidates and receives materials, instructions, a cultivation art, and a Storage Bag. He treats these gifts as possible threats rather than unconditional generosity, while outwardly behaving as a grateful prospective apprentice 5 8.
Appearance
- Usually appears as a young man in black robes 86 699.
- At high cultivation, his arrival may be accompanied by blood-red Other Shore Flowers and nether lotuses blooming beneath his steps 689 699.
- His Nascent Soul Dharma Form grows from roughly thirty thousand zhang to more than ninety thousand zhang during early-stage cultivation 340 364.
- All Beings Aspect allows him to assume other people’s identities rather than merely alter his outward appearance. At advanced stages, recognition, karma, and blood ties accept the stolen existence as genuine 714.
Personality
Chu Mo is cautious, secretive, and strongly committed to self-preservation. He prefers acting alone because teammates restrict his movements and may discover his secrets. Before confronting enemies, he gathers intelligence, tests techniques, seeks political protection, and prepares specialized counters. He is willing to retreat when a battle threatens resources already secured 14 52 86 629.
His politeness frequently conceals suspicion or calculation. He flatters Liu Xian, remains respectful toward coercive seniors, and negotiates factional service as a practical exchange. Yuan Bai’s offer of valuable cultivation resources immediately changes his response to the grotto-heaven contest, while Xuan Cheng must promise additional rewards to secure his participation in the Profound Li expedition 8 90 99 353.
He is acquisitive, ruthless, and openly capable of treating other cultivators as resources. He harvests souls to strengthen his banner, turns crucial gifts into karmic traps, and takes Zhou Buxing’s providence and divine ability after presenting himself as a benefactor. He also holds grudges, remembering injuries long after the immediate danger has passed 85 264 317 320 679.
His protective behavior coexists with that exploitation. He repeatedly supports Di Yang, intervenes against the Taboos, and authorizes the Underworld’s expansion after defeating Bitter End. He also prevents Tai Shao from treating Spider Mother as material. These actions do not erase his tendency to use students, allies, and guests to advance his own plans 149 303 392 722.
Abilities & Skills
Player Interface
- Character panel: Displays race, Dao Path, level, cultivation methods, skills, and Yin-Yang Jade holdings 1 11 430.
- Experience-based practice: Repeated spell practice grants experience and reduces casting windup to the limit permitted by his current cultivation 8.
- Unit identification: Displays names, levels, and colored labels. Chu Mo uses hostile red names and friendly green names to assess danger and trust 8 10 58.
- Inventory and item use: Stores possessions and permits direct use of supplies such as Qi-Restoring Powder 1 20.
- Inspection: Reveals item descriptions and defects, allowing him to distinguish useful imitations from dangerous counterfeits 150 164.
- Quests and loot: Liu Xian’s talisman-paper assignment appears as a quest; defeated opponents can produce item drops. Chu Mo explicitly notes that panel-dropped dragon treasures do not carry attached karmic debt 6 223 280 435.
Cultivation Scriptures
- Dawncloud One-Qi Profound Cavern Scripture: Produces high-quality, abundant, continuously replenishing True Qi. Its continuation covers Qi Refining levels four through ten 5 23 32.
- Profound Cavern Roselight: The Dawncloud scripture’s legacy technique changes between offense and defense at the wielder’s will. Its strength depends on qi quality and the cultivator’s foundation 32.
- Pierces and dissolves a boulder.
- Forms a barrier capable of repelling the Golden Baleful Bone-Piercing Art.
- Profound Nether Commanding Myriad Spirits True Scripture: Becomes his principal method after rebuilding his cultivation around Profound Nether True Qi and a Heavenly Register 82 85.
- Supports his Netherworld-focused cultivation.
- At Nascent Soul, permits bound souls’ true spirits to be refined into resilient Yin Spirits that can repeatedly return and draw power from the Profound Banner 330.
All Beings Aspect
His life-bound divine ability develops from fate theft into control over identity, multiplicity, and existence 196 520 686.
| Development | Applications and limits |
|---|---|
| Golden Core: fate plundering | A single exchanged glance can establish a foothold. Deeper karmic ties make fate seizure more effective 205 224. |
| Identity reinforcement | Recognition from an impersonated person’s close associates strengthens the stolen identity. In his early Xuan Meng impersonation, he can use only one face at a time and still lacks her fate 323. |
| Nascent Soul: independent Other-Selves | People whose fate he devours can become Nether Capital Ghostfolk and manifest independent aspects retaining their original karma and affinities. Too many aspects risk karmic entanglement and loss of self 330. |
| Spirit Transformation: alternate Dao Path | May allow him to take over an Other-Self and start a different cultivation path, but only by abandoning his current identity and fate 430. |
| Dao Integration: broad assimilation | Can assimilate through sight, sound, proximity, or knowledge, and create a complete Other-Self from nothing. A surviving self allows him to return even if his Dharma Body, True Realm, and Great Dao are destroyed 520. |
| Temporal assimilation | Incorporates past selves into one continuous “I,” strengthening cultivation without directly rewriting history 650. |
| Mahayana: reversible assimilation | Can forcibly possess cultivators below the Sixth Realm without prior karma, then restore assimilated individuals to independent existence 686. |
- Disguise and infiltration: Uses stolen identities to enter hostile factions, preserve intimate relationships, and exploit existing social networks 317 442 713.
- Shared expertise: Draws on Other-Selves’ knowledge of formations, Dragonkind seals, Time Dao, and Space Dao 636 647 659.
- Numerical superiority: Manifests armies of aspects with different cultivation levels and methods 637.
- Persistent reach: Maintains access to Other-Selves even after links between Fuli, Zhaohua, and Supreme Heaven are severed 646.
- Resistance at higher realms: Sixth-Realm assimilation can remain incomplete, and Seventh-Realm cultivators become increasingly difficult to digest as their Dao Paths deepen 646 702.
- Not absolute protection: Bitter End’s Root Origin power nearly reaches his true self through an aspect’s connection 392.
Myriad Selves
- Unites the strength and Dao Paths of his many selves rather than treating them as outside helpers. This lets assimilated cultivators’ power count as his own during tribulations that otherwise demand self-reliance 673.
- Manifests countless converging daos against powerful opponents 730.
- At level 100, links his two Dao Fruits and draws the Netherworld and living beings into its scope 741.
Soul Suppression and Treasure Mirror Light
- Communing with the Nether: An innate talent discovered after Foundation Establishment that strengthens his suppression of souls and ghosts 84.
- Nine Nether Form-Piercing, Spirit-Seizing Treasure Mirror Light: A superior divine ability granted by Xuan Cheng; particularly compatible with his innate talent 99.
- Spirit-Seizing Soul-Settling: Immobilizes an enemy by striking their soul.
- Nether-Passing Spirit-Locking: Extracts and seals the soul.
- A later Golden Core technique exposes karma and can provoke a heart-demon backlash.
- His soul techniques complement sword attacks that interfere with treasures and divine abilities 99.
Realm Yin-Yang and Great Black Heaven
| Technique | Effect | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Yin-Yang Divide | Enters a parallel Yin Realm where most attacks from the living world cannot reach him, while he can still affect targets in the Yang Realm 255. | Heavy consumption; defensive stability depends on the banner’s netherworld soil and souls 255. |
| Treading Yin to Turn Yang | Travels through the Yin Realm and reappears at chosen Yang Realm locations. It initially supports travel of about four thousand li 255. | Range grows with the banner’s resources. It can bypass some spatial wards, but is less effective against Nascent Soul opponents who manipulate heaven and earth 291 330. |
| Great Black Heaven | Casts a lightless domain that deprives enemies of their senses and spiritual awareness while leaving Chu Mo concealed and able to observe them 335. | Stability and strength increase with Yin Spirits; powerful banner spirits contribute much more than ordinary mortal ghosts 335. |
Death, Life, and Netherworld Authority
- Determine Life and Death: Uses life-and-death principles both offensively and to establish karmic leverage. The Ink Seal’s Determine Death extinguishes life 317 432.
- Death Root Origin: Grants lethal power distinct from his numerical cultivation. Chu Mo explicitly treats cultivation and Root Origin mastery as separate but interacting sources of strength 430.
- Death-Evasion and Life-Prolonging: Keeps a decapitated tiger alive. At mid-stage Spirit Transformation, he judges that it could preserve a catastrophically injured Spirit Transformation cultivator for about a day 472.
- Netherworld Court: Restrains captured souls and powerful cultivators, supports his expanding order, and can eventually be established in other worlds to command their dead 629 666.
- Reincarnation: Can send others into a new life; Yichu accepts this route rather than remain stalled at Spirit Transformation 549.
- Tranquil Radiance, Purifying Demon Law: The fourth ordinance of the Six Heavens of Luofeng. Its clear rain absolves sinful karma while stripping away cultivation and attainment 578.
- Law creation: Demonstrates the ability to create a Law after reaching the All Beings Dao stage 549.
- Existence concealment: Can stand in plain sight without being noticed; he suspects this will not deceive a Great Dao Venerable 666.
Sword Arts
- Three Corpses Severing Form Profound Capital Sword: A three-sword divine ability acquired in full after Foundation Establishment 84.
- Twofold Life-Nourishing Sword: A black-and-white blade embodying life and death, Yin and Yang; Chu Mo believes it can cut fundamental forces 389.
- Two Forms Sword: Used against Bitter End and Xuanming 392 474.
- Cutting Human Lifespans: Accelerates the aging of cultivators trapped within Xuan Cheng’s dreamscape 353.
Time and Space Techniques
- Obtains Ten Thousand Ages, One Body and Su Mu’s Time Dao knowledge through incomplete assimilation 646.
- Uses a Time Dao divine ability to reveal the River of Time and extract droplets of temporal power 647.
- Light-Congealing Form Fixation freezes Time Hounds, but more appear while he attempts to change history. He abandons direct alteration rather than risk attracting the Time Dao Heavenly Venerable 650.
- Combines multiple Space Dao Other-Selves to break Su Mu’s spatial imprisonment and release his sealed treasures 636.
Crafting, Formations, and Supporting Techniques
- Talisman making: Trains under Liu Xian and later draws first-tier, high-grade Sunflame Evil-Breaking Talismans and Flame Arrow Volley Talismans. Sells lower-grade output while keeping high-grade talismans for himself 5 50.
- Artifact refining: Chooses to learn the craft before using rare Flood Dragon materials; repeatedly develops the Profound Banner 43 335.
- Pill refining: Produces pills for Xi Hong’s sales-and-loan venture, gaining karmic debt useful to his cultivation 301.
- Paper Folding into Soldiers: Experiments with resilience runes and banner spirits inside paper constructs. Values inexpensive paper weapons as potential trade material 124 151.
- Formations: Acquires the Soul-Rending Yin-Shifting Life-Extinguishing Formation, completes the Six Harmonies, Nine Hells Illusion-Destroying Formation, and studies the Heavenly Ghost Sixfold Yin Palace Grand Array 73 91 203.
- Stealth and movement: Uses Dust-Treading Art, trades for Luo Shan’s Invisibility Technique, and demonstrates a subtle approach that surprises Ming He’s attendant 20 70 151.
- Other recorded techniques: Soul-Severing Sand, Golden Baleful Bone-Piercing Art, Mind-Cleansing Mantra, Green Vine Bind, Blood Treasure River, True Sun Wheel, Dawnlight, and several ghost-derived Embryo abilities 11 227 256.
- Heaven’s Heart: May revive someone whose fate and worldly traces remain, but succeeds only about one time in five 228.

Story Role / Major Arcs
Savage Realm Assessment and Outer-Disciple Preparation
Chu Mo treats the Savage Realm assessment as both a survival test and a resource-gathering opportunity. He uses his replenishing qi, movement technique, and consumables to fight repeatedly, aiming to earn enough contribution for a private cave abode. Afterward, he obtains the soul-banner spirit embryo, names it the Profound Scenery Refining Truth Banner, and purchases the continuation of his cultivation scripture 20 23 30 32.
Sea Patrol and Xueying’s Legacy
During his sea mission, Chu Mo discovers an unopened seabed Dharma Estate connected to High Person Xueying. He researches its owner, conceals the discovery from the sect, and completes the assignment after his teammates die. Xueying’s eventual legacy supplies broad crafting knowledge and a severe reincarnation technique, while Chu Mo later uses the estate, a Heavenly Register, and Demon Essence Pills to rebuild his cultivation 42 43 81 82.
Profound Sun Realm
Entering with Ji Qing’s group, Chu Mo exploits local demon-hunting rewards while secretly investigating the Demon Suppression Bureau’s pavilion. Demon Essence Pills accelerate his cultivation, but he refuses local martial methods that shorten lifespan. After Foundation Establishment, Xuan Cheng sends him back on a coerced investigation; Chu Mo disguises his aura and refines demon-king blood essence for further advancement 58 70 99 102.
Eternal Night Sea and Golden Core
Chu Mo gradually prioritizes studying Eternal Night over dangerous expeditions offered by other cultivators. Through Di Yang and Daoist Wuchen’s inheritance, he acquires information about ghost cultivation, paper constructs, and urban legends. He reaches Golden Core, gains All Beings Aspect, and becomes able to open a stable passage between Eternal Night and Fuli 117 124 149 151 196 200.
Cloudmist and the Eastern Sea
The Cloudmist operation brings new treasures, divine abilities, and fate-numen benefits, although factional accounting sharply reduces his monetary reward.
