The Western Wasteland had four distinct seasons, but even in winter, snow merely blanketed the land. It never froze over for thousands of miles like this, without the slightest trace of life in sight.

"I've most likely left the Western Wasteland," Li Ping concluded swiftly.
Though that was his guess, he had no idea where he actually was.
Rather than hurry to break through the ice, Li Ping examined his surroundings again.
He had thought the Teleportation Formation was underground, but after looking around, he discovered that was not the case.
He was clearly near the summit of a towering peak, which explained the expansive view. The formation must have been inside the mountain; just now, he had flown up the stairs from its interior.
As he thought, Li Ping turned and flew back toward the stone hall inside the mountain.
He chose to return for two main reasons.
First, although the stone hall smelled rather strongly of earth, it posed no danger. Naturally, he was in no hurry to leave.
With the Spirit-Eye Jade in hand, he could cultivate anywhere. The crucial thing was to avoid danger.
Now that he had established he was most likely no longer in the Western Wasteland, he was in unfamiliar territory where nobody knew him. Surely no one would come looking for trouble with him here, so he could set his mind at ease.
