Background / History

Early Life and the Mountain Sea Inheritance

Born in the Purple Firmament Domain with an earth-grade spiritual root, Blood-Sea joined a Core Formation sect as a child. During his travels, he fell into the Mountain Sea Lineage Ruins and met the future Mountain Sea Sect Master. They spent more than ten years exploring together, obtained inheritances, and acknowledged the same master, becoming senior and junior fellow disciples. His senior brother chose the orthodox Mountain Sea inheritance; Blood-Sea chose its more extreme Blood Sea branch 55 114.

After escaping the ruins, Blood-Sea discovered that his original sect was wanted for colluding with the Nine Nether Domain and that his master had fled there. He and his senior brother traveled to the Nine Nether Domain to investigate. There, they encountered Azure Moon, a newly advanced Foundation Establishment cultivator who claimed to have escaped abduction by demon cultivators 114.

The three fled pursuit and eventually reached the Primordial Origin Domain. Both men fell in love with Azure Moon, who rejected neither and received cultivation resources from them. The two fellow disciples subsequently reached Core Formation and established the Mountain Sea Sect; Azure Moon also formed her core 114.

Conflict and Imprisonment

Azure Moon told Blood-Sea that his senior brother had forcibly taken her primordial yin. Enraged, he charged into the Mountain-Sea Secret Realm. Although the sect master was already grievously injured from fighting another middle-stage True Person, he used the realm’s formation to grind away Blood-Sea’s body and Golden Core. Unable to finish destroying his soul before his own injuries became fatal, he sealed it inside the Mountain Sea Ring 61 114.

Blood-Sea survived for more than two hundred years. Cut off from Azure Moon’s influence, he recognized within ten years that she had manipulated him and his senior brother through a secret art. His hatred shifted toward her, and recovering enough strength to avenge them became his overriding goal 37 76 114.

Responsibility for the Sect’s Destruction

  • Earlier account: The sect master’s jade record accused Blood-Sea of slaughtering nearly all the Mountain Sea Sect’s disciples 61.
  • Later evidence: Zhou Qing’s cooperative soul search found no memory of Blood-Sea attacking the sect grounds. Blood-Sea had instead gone directly to the separate secret realm 114.
  • Zhou Qing’s conclusion: Azure Moon likely carried out the massacre and left evidence implicating Blood-Sea. Her use of hidden Demonic Path accomplices was also his deduction, not something Blood-Sea’s memories directly established 114.

Appearance

Blood-Sea’s appearance changes between his remnant-soul, recovered corporeal, and ghost-cultivator states.

  • Remnant soul: A crimson figure formed from blood-red light spilling out of the Mountain Sea Ring 34 76.
  • Recovered body: Wears blood-colored robes and has long crimson hair. His appearance and build differ from his earlier manifestation 82.
  • Forbidden-art transformation: His crimson hair rapidly turns gray-white as he burns his essence against Azure Moon 82.
  • Ghost form: Lacks a physical body, radiates powerful ghostly energy, and later travels beneath a black cloak 115 149.

Personality

Blood-Sea is calculating when survival is at stake. He cultivated prospective possession vessels through apparent mentorship, concealed his intentions until the decisive moment, and refused to surrender valuable information without guarantees. When Zhou Qing trapped him, he negotiated for a heart-demon oath rather than trust a promise of release 34 74 113 114.

His remorse over fighting his senior brother develops into an obsession with revenge. In the third simulation, he knowingly launches a suicidal attack against Azure Moon. Ghost cultivation gives him a longer lifespan and another route forward, allowing him to postpone revenge rather than immediately sacrifice himself 76 82 115 128.

He retains affection for his senior brother and concern for the Mountain Sea legacy. He recognizes Zhou Qing as a worthy successor and later takes hope from seeing him surpass both former disciples. After Azure Moon’s death, Blood-Sea becomes noticeably calmer and less vicious 76 132 149.

Abilities & Skills

Blood Sea Inheritance

Cultivates an obscure branch of the Ancient Mountain Sea Lineage. The inheritance he gives Zhou Qing includes the Blood Sea Undying Art and numerous Blood Sea secret arts 55 76 114.

  • Manifests a surging blood sea during combat 82.
  • Possesses a Blood Sea Imperishable Body, whose remaining power is exhausted during centuries of imprisonment 114.
  • Can burn his essence through forbidden methods for a temporary increase in strength; his all-out attack against Azure Moon is explicitly suicidal 82.

Possession and Soul Survival

Survives the destruction of his body and Golden Core as a wisp of soul essence 34.

  • Plans to cultivate a compatible vessel by having its owner practice the Mountain Sea Art 113.
  • Targets Ye Feng and Zhou Qing in earlier simulations 74.
  • Guides Zhou Qing for more than sixty years in the second simulation, repeatedly cleansing his sinews and marrow to prepare him for cultivation—and eventual possession 55 115.
  • While reduced to a remnant soul, loses access to most abilities and relies primarily on divine-soul attacks 73.
  • Recovering through possession would leave his strength permanently capped at early Core Formation 115.

Ghost Cultivation

Adopts ghost cultivation to preserve his strength, extend his lifespan, and retain a chance of defeating Azure Moon 115.

  • Excels in divine-soul methods, including the threat of soul torment used against Yellow Wolf True Person 117.
  • Flies substantially faster than corporeal Golden Core cultivators of the same level 117.
  • Has strong survival capabilities, though vital blood and similar methods counter ghost cultivators 116.
  • At third-tier middle stage, can push his power to produce a strike approaching a late-stage Grand True Person’s strength 130.
  • Remains dependent on his Life-Bound Ghost Jade, whose holder controls his life and can locate him 115.

Inheritance Knowledge

His memories preserve ancient-lineage knowledge, hidden resource locations, and cultivation craft inheritances 55 114.

  • Supplies two third-tier formation inheritances, one puppetry inheritance, one alchemy inheritance, and one poison inheritance 75.
  • Conceals a fire essence jujube behind an illusion formation that Foundation Establishment cultivators and second-tier beasts cannot see through 75.
  • Knows the location of the Mountain Sea Lineage Ruins in the Purple Firmament Domain 115.
  • Was not a third-tier talisman master and had not prepared Dharma Talismans for personal use 113.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Mountain Sea Ring — His prison and later refuge. He partially fuses with it over centuries, enabling him to break part of its seal; in the third simulation, he departs with it after his release 76 113 159.
  • Life-Bound Ghost Jade — Condensed from ghostly energy after his conversion. Surrendered to Zhou Qing as the condition of his continued service 115.
  • Three hidden cave abodes — Store treasures and cultivation resources retained from his earlier life. Their contents include spirit-nourishing grass, six-void fruit, and a flying magic treasure 114 115.
  • Third-tier middle-grade puppet — Given to him by Azure Origin as a protective vessel for the journey toward the Netherworld Domain. Combined with his ghost methods, it can produce strength approaching late Golden Core 149.

Relationships

  • Mountain-Sea True Person / Mountain Sea Sect Master — Senior fellow disciple, fellow explorer, and sect co-founder. Azure Moon’s manipulation turns them against each other; Blood-Sea later seeks revenge for them both 55 76 114.
  • Zhou Qing / Azure Origin — Initially a prospective possession vessel; later his captor, benefactor, and master. Their shared opposition to Azure Moon leads to cooperation, although Zhou Qing retains control through his Life-Bound Ghost Jade. Eventually regarded as a trusted subordinate 34 114 115 172.
  • Azure Moon True Person — Former love interest and principal enemy. Her manipulation precipitates his confrontation with his senior brother. He dies attacking her in the third simulation and helps ambush her in the fourth 82 114 132.
  • Ye Feng — A possession target in an earlier simulation; later shares responsibility for the Azure Origin Trade Association with Blood-Sea 74 175.
  • Yellow Wolf True Person — Azure Moon’s disciple and spy. Blood-Sea captures him alive and threatens divine-soul torment to break his resistance 117.
  • Original master — A cultivator from his childhood sect who fled to the Nine Nether Domain. Searching for this master first brought Blood-Sea and his senior brother into that domain 114.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Second Simulation: Hidden Possession Scheme

  • Presents himself as a cultivation guide while preparing Zhou Qing as a vessel 55 114.
  • Reveals his identity and explains his imprisonment after the Mountain Sea Ring turns blood-red and nearly fuses with Zhou Qing’s body 34.
  • Zhou Qing destroys his own body to deny Blood-Sea the vessel, ending the simulation 35.

Third Simulation: Bargain and Failed Revenge

  • Zhou Qing confines the ring inside a third-tier Sealing Jade Box for decades while preparing defenses against divine-soul attacks 59 71 73.
  • When finally released from the box, Blood-Sea finds over a hundred Sealing Talismans and a Suppressing Array waiting for him. He abandons escape and bargains for his freedom 74.
  • Exchanges the location of a fire essence jujube and five third-tier craft inheritances for release under a carefully worded heart-demon oath. Before leaving, he additionally gives Zhou Qing his cultivation method and secret arts 75 76.
  • Attacks Azure Moon Immortal City after recovering his strength. Azure Moon reveals late-stage Core Formation power and kills him, prompting Zhou Qing to recognize the danger of remaining in her city 82.

Fourth Simulation: Ghost Cultivator and Trade Association Overseer

  • Cooperates with Zhou Qing’s soul search after receiving a promise of help against Azure Moon 114.
  • Converts to ghost cultivation, surrenders his Life-Bound Ghost Jade, and takes charge of the Azure Origin Trade Association on Profound King Island 115.
  • Captures Yellow Wolf and reports the association’s prosperity, including intelligence about the fourth-tier Black Tortoise beneath Profound King Lake 117 121.
  • Helps ambush Azure Moon alongside Little Black and a third-tier puppet. He burns ghost-cultivator essence and prepares to sacrifice what remains before Azure Origin defeats her 132.
  • Helps clear the battlefield and resumes overseeing the association. Azure Origin initially preserves Azure Moon’s soul inside her sealed Golden Core rather than allowing her to die immediately 133.
  • After Azure Moon’s eventual death and the sale of association holdings, travels independently. Azure Origin recommends the ghost-cultivator Netherworld Domain and equips him with a puppet vessel for the dangerous journey 149.

Later Simulation: Trusted Vice President

  • Recruited again after Zhou Qing forcibly extracts him from the Mountain Sea Ring; once more becomes a ghost cultivator and association manager 159.
  • Oversees arrangements outside the Mountain Sea Lineage Ruins while association cultivators explore within. Local Core Formation factions pressure him to surrender a share of their gains 171.
  • Learns that Azure Origin has reached Nascent Soul, giving him confidence to confront those factions. High Firmament True Lord subsequently agrees not to interfere with the association’s gains 172.
  • Remains responsible for the association alongside Ye Feng when Azure Origin returns to the Infinite Domain with Li Yan 175.
