On an island reef several miles outside Basman's western harbor, a white lighthouse towered into the sky. At its tip stood an enormous searchlight twice the height of a person, powered by a crystal that emitted light.
Compared with ordinary lighthouses, this white tower was enormous. Its topmost floor looked small from outside, yet contained nearly a hundred square meters of space, filled with bookshelves and all manner of odd objects that looked like both instruments and toys. Its layout somewhat resembled the Golden Hall of the Black Castle's Magic Department.
Hope and his student Tommy had already arrived. Two old wizards with graying beards were leafing through Truth and Magic, while their two relatively young students craned their necks to read beside them.
"Th-this Magic Book is actually a periodical? And it's sold openly? Anyone can buy it with money?"
One old wizard stared at the first issue of Truth and Magic without even raising his head as he spoke. His eyes never left its contents. After only a brief look, he had already realized just how precious the knowledge in this book was.
In truth, much of the book's contents were knowledge that wizards of his caliber had already mastered, but the way it presented that knowledge was remarkably fresh. More importantly, some of its contents offered even them new insights, with fresh perspectives and approaches.
The other old wizard adjusted his glasses and looked up at Hope.
"These two issues of the Magic Journal are truly astonishing. Mine even contains a discussion of elves. I scoffed at first, but by the time I finished reading, I was genuinely shaken. This Magic Journal called Truth and Magic is certainly no frivolous endeavor!"
