With their earlier suspicions in mind, the group had grown considerably bolder. They deliberately entered what should have been ordinary homes in suitable areas, only to find, without exception, that they were either empty or occupied by mutated monsters.
"Just as we thought. Again."
Mulan clenched his fists and rose, tapping the monster's head beneath him with the toe of his leather boot. It instantly stopped moving.

Mulan looked in several directions across the city. Though it was no metropolis, neither was it a small town. Handel could not help speaking up.
"There must be hundreds of thousands of people here at least. Do Bach's leaders really have no regard for their own subjects?"
"The people of Bach may be our enemies, not our friends, but could human beings really do something like this?"
The others were indignant as well, but Mulan had already brought his emotions under control. He merely said quietly,
"Continue the mission."
A moment later, they vanished from the spot as dark shadows.
Inside one of the city's fortresses, the Bach soldiers who had once guarded it were long gone. In their place were Werewolves with glossy black manes. Their sense of smell was exceptionally keen, and they were less volatile than ordinary Werewolves, retaining a limited measure of reason.
"Ugh, those things stink."
"Didn't you rise out of their ranks yourself?"
"I refuse to accept that! I'm a noble member of the Wolf Clan! Roar!"
The argument ignited the two Werewolves' violent tempers, and they began tearing at each other. They only stopped when one howled for mercy.
