Handel was someone Mulan had observed for a long time. He respected Handel's character and was also very pleased with his answer.
Back in the Twenty-First Century, Mulan had considered himself an entirely ordinary person. When he was little, his teachers had said anyone could get top marks if they studied hard. As he grew older, however, he increasingly understood that there really were differences in people's natural abilities.
But after becoming the person he was now, Mulan suddenly realized that he seemed to have become an exceptional student. He couldn't say the same for other fields yet, but it was true of mystical knowledge, at least. He owed this to his reasonably sharp mind and his uniquely gifted capacity for resonance.
Although he had his troubles, such as insomnia and frequent dreams, Mulan remained fairly optimistic that he would surely distinguish himself.
"Oh, sir, these letters arrived recently. I collected them all for you."
Handel pointed at a cardboard box on the desk and opened it. There was a stack of letters inside, probably more than a dozen.
Mulan couldn't receive letters at Black Castle, so he used the York District Police Station as his address. The post office didn't deliver each letter as soon as it arrived, either; deliveries came at a fixed time once a week.

Pulled out of his thoughts, Mulan began opening the letters and reading their contents. Handel tactfully returned to his own place, tidied a few things, then opened the door and left. At this time every day, he would arrange lunch for himself and Mulan in advance.
There wasn't a dedicated takeaway service, but it was possible to order ahead and bring boxes to the shop at noon to collect the food.
