Inside the passenger carriage, everyone else kept well away from the corpses, but Handel followed Mulan as he inspected them. Of course, there was no chance any of the werewolves were still alive.

"Professor, these things are turning back into people!"

Handel looked at some of the bodies on the floor in mild surprise. One after another, the corpses had begun shedding their fur, turning into hairless humans.

Setting aside the bodies slashed apart by the sword, many of the bullet holes in those shot dead were tiny once they reverted to human form, a testament to their powerful healing abilities. But the wounds left by Handel's silver bullets or Mulan's bullets were unusually large, looking as though they had been corroded and torn apart.

Mulan watched a corpse beside him gradually shed its black wolf fur. He crouched and gently pinched a tuft, then felt a faint tug. With a slight pull, he plucked it free, while all the remaining fur shrank back into the pores.

"They're dying."

"Huh?"

Handel was puzzled. Dying? Weren't they already dead?

Mulan looked up at Handel.

"Student Handel, get your notebook and record this. The werewolves' cells are dying. Only once those cells have completely died do the dead werewolves revert to human form. This takes approximately one to one and a half hours after the body dies. The information comes from field observations of low-level infected subjects."

"Yes, Professor!"

Handel hurried back to his original seat, took his notebook from his open suitcase, and drew a pen from inside his coat. He bit off the cap, flicked the pen twice, and began writing rapidly.

As he recorded what Mulan had told him, Handel also applied what he had learned, running back to the other corpses to examine them himself and record further
