Barn killed Enel, removed his own heart, and had the Golden Lion replace it with Enel’s heart. After dying and reviving amid a storm of lightning, Barn opened his eyes and regained the ability to see.

  • Barn tore out Enel’s heart, then removed his own and told the Golden Lion to put Enel’s heart in his chest after he died.

  • Barn transformed into lightning and pursued Kizaru, who fled as Barn struck at him; a pool of blood appeared, but neither fighter’s fate was shown.

Ch. 267One against four

Barn attacked Marine Headquarters to take Kizaru and demand an explanation for his friend's death, but Sengoku, Garp, Akainu, and the wounded Kizaru turned against him. As the Marines evacuated, Barn summoned a thundercloud and called down the Demon-Subduing Vajra, preparing to face all four.

Barn fought Sengoku, Garp, Kizaru, and Akainu in Mary Geoise, using the Demon-Subduing Vajra and First-Generation Onikiri to injure Kizaru and survive their combined attacks. After Barn repelled Akainu and Sengoku’s Hellhound, a mysterious woman blocked his strike with a sinister Demon Blade, and Barn recognized her arrival.

  • Barn pulled the Demon-Subduing Vajra from the ground and used it to send Garp flying before charging at Kizaru.

  • Barn explained that he had promised Roger to protect his family and that Ace had a mission of his own.
  • Barn predicted that a great war between the Marines and pirates would break out within a year, with Ace as its spark.

Ch. 274The curtain of war

Barn explained to Shanks how Teach might use Ace’s capture to trigger a war between the Marines and pirates, and revealed that his true target was the World Government. He asked Shanks to stay out of the war until it ended and protect Whitebeard’s crew afterward; meanwhile, Dragon learned of Luffy’s exploits and reflected on their future meeting.

  • Barn told Shanks that Teach could trade Ace to the Marines for the Shichibukai title, prompting a public execution and a major war at Mary Geoise.
  • Barn revealed that he and Dragon were close friends and said the Revolutionary Army’s real target was the World Government, not the Marines.
  • Barn asked Shanks to avoid the war and appear afterward to help Whitebeard’s crew retreat, promising he would intervene to save Ace if needed.
  • Barn asked Shanks to look after Whitebeard’s children if Whitebeard died, and Shanks firmly agreed.
  • At Baltigo, Dragon heard reports of Luffy’s victories and bounties, then went outside and hoped Luffy would challenge the world and meet him someday.

Ch. 275Before the Dawn

Barn told Dragon that the coming war would create an opportunity for the Revolutionary Army to strike while the Navy focused on Mary Geoise, and warned Dragon to choose wisely after the World Government fell. Barn then visited Rayleigh at the Sabaody Archipelago Auction House as the war approached and asked for his help with something.

  • Barn told Dragon that Ace's meeting with Blackbeard had set the coming war in motion and urged him to attack World Government countries while the Navy was distracted.
  • Dragon revealed that the Primordial Stone was hidden beneath island 73, and Barn explained that he might not survive the war and urged Dragon to make the right choices afterward.
  • Barn left Dragon, saying he still had regrets to resolve, and joked that Dragon needed new clothes before traveling away on Laboon.
  • Barn found Rayleigh imprisoned in the Auction House backstage and told him that the war was his to fight, not Rayleigh's.
  • Barn told Rayleigh that he needed his help with something.

Ch. 276Wano Country

  • Barn traveled with Laboon to Wano Country, where armed locals surrounded him and demanded to know who he was.

Ch. 277The shogun

Barn fought his way through Wano Country's guards and confronted the shogun, Kozuki Oden, who was revealed to be a disguised shadow warrior. After meeting the real shogun, Barn learned that he faced assassination threats and agreed to help in exchange for information.

  • Barn used Conqueror's Haki to knock down the surrounding samurai and demanded that Tezuka Osamu take him to the shogun.
  • Masaki attacked Barn, but Barn overpowered him and sent him crashing into a wall.

Ch. 278Kozuki

Barn followed Tezuka Osamu to the Sanzu River and confronted the man impersonating Wano’s shogun, then met the real Kozuki Oden. The chapter ended with Barn and Oden entering a cave where Barn recognized the Kozuki Family crest.

  • After Barn left, the impostor Oden ordered Masaki to join the Oniwabanshu and Rōshigumi and kill Barn at the Sanzu River.
  • Tezuka Osamu led Barn to the Sanzu River and warned him that both the impostor shogun and his destination lay beyond it.

  • A two-sworded man attacked Barn, but Barn parried his flaming blades with the First-Generation Onikiri and forced him back.
  • The real Kozuki Oden emerged from a cave, greeted Barn, and brought him inside after Barn said he had no interest in Wano’s internal affairs.
  • Barn spotted the Kozuki Family crest in the cave, and Fitz chirped excitedly at it.

Ch. 279Encirclement

Barn questioned Kozuki Oden about the Poneglyphs and learned why a usurper had driven Oden into hiding. As Oden explained his struggle to open Wano’s borders, the Rōshigumi and Oniwabanshu arrived.

  • Kozuki Oden confirmed that his family created the Poneglyphs and that Roger’s crew gathered their contents into a text left on Laugh Tale, but he refused to reveal what it said.
  • Kozuki Oden explained that Wano’s isolationist Conservatives opposed his plan to open the borders, and a man impersonating him seized power and hunted him.
  • Kozuki Oden introduced his retainers Raizo, Kanjuro, and Kin'emon, and Barn revealed that he had defeated Masaki, the usurper’s Great Swordsman.
  • Kozuki Oden introduced his wife and son Momonosuke and told Barn he feared leaving them behind, while refusing Barn’s offer to kill the usurper by force.
  • Kin'emon rushed back to warn Kozuki Oden that the Rōshigumi and the Oniwabanshu had arrived.

Ch. 280Defeat

Barn stayed behind with Kin'emon and Raizo to face Masaki while Kozuki Oden escaped through a secret passage with his family. Barn lost their contest of swordsmanship and was pierced by both of Masaki’s blades, but he drove the First-Generation Onikiri toward Masaki’s chest.

  • Raizo filled the cave with smoke as Kanjuro urged Kozuki Oden to flee, but Oden insisted on facing the attackers until Masaki’s slash made clear how dangerous the fight was.
  • Barn blocked Masaki’s slash and told Kozuki Oden to leave; Oden admitted he was too weak to fight Masaki and escaped with his wife and son alongside Kanjuro.
  • Kin'emon told Barn that Kozuki Oden had mastered only Conqueror’s Haki, while Masaki revealed that his forces had killed their men and displayed Kojiro’s body.
  • Barn assigned Masaki to himself and sent Kin'emon and Raizo to fight the remaining samurai and ninjas.
  • Barn and Masaki exchanged sword blows, each wounding the other before Masaki outmaneuvered Barn with his long sword and wakizashi.
  • Barn accepted that he had lost their swordsmanship contest and thrust the First-Generation Onikiri toward Masaki’s chest as both of Masaki’s blades pierced him.

Ch. 281The Giant Ghost Ship

After defeating Masaki, Barn agreed to retrieve Ryuma’s remains for Kozuki Oden, then traveled to the Florian Triangle to find Brook. He found the abandoned giant ship and, among the crew’s skeletons, listened to their final recording and mourned Captain York.

  • Barn defeated Masaki and knocked out the samurai and ninja attacking Kin'emon and Raizo with his Conqueror's Haki.
  • Kanjuro reported that Ryuma’s stolen body had been seen causing trouble at sea, and Kozuki Oden asked Barn to bring the remains back to Wano Country.
  • Barn accepted Oden’s request and traveled with Laboon and Fitz to the Florian Triangle.
  • Barn found the ruined giant ship but could not find Brook, and wondered whether Luffy and the others had already visited.
