  • Toru Kujyo discovered nearly a hundred Akatsuki-cloaked puppets and connected each one to his chakra so he could activate them.
  • Toru Kujyo returned to Karin and Hanabi, then invited them to stroll along Cherry Blossom Street.
  • Toru Kujyo asked Karin whether she wanted a peaceful life or to become a ninja, and assured her he would support her choice.
  • Karin chose to become a ninja so she could grow strong enough to help and protect Toru Kujyo.
  • Hanabi insisted she would become the strongest female ninja too, and Toru Kujyo playfully teased her before lifting her onto his shoulders.
  • Toru Kujyo, Karin, and Hanabi left the villa and walked along Cherry Blossom Street as the sun set.

Ch. 102The return and the opening act

Toru Kujyo returned to Konoha with Hanabi just before the chunin tournament, while Karin stayed behind to master the Adamantine Sealing Chains. As the exam approached, Toru prepared to confront the hidden forces threatening the village, including Orochimaru and Danzo.

  • Toru Kujyo gave Karin a scroll containing the Adamantine Sealing Chains and ordered her to train while he was away.

  • Toru Kujyo sensed Sasuke Uchiha’s developing Chidori and judged that Sasuke’s growing strength would help draw attention away from him.
  • Toru Kujyo used his Tenseigan to identify Orochimaru beneath the Kazekage’s disguise and sensed the Sound Four posing as guards.
  • Genma Shiranui announced that the final matches had no rules and that fighters could die if they continued.
  • Genma Shiranui declared Naruto Uzumaki the winner by default because Dosu Kinata was absent.
  • Genma Shiranui announced Temari versus Hinata Hyuga as the first match, drawing concern from Hanabi Hyuga and contempt from Neji Hyuga.

Ch. 104Gazes

Hinata confronted Temari in the Chunin Exam arena and overcame her shame and fear by drawing on Toru Kujyo’s encouragement and anger at her family’s expectations. After Genma Shiranui started the match, Temari immediately launched a Wind Release attack at Hinata.

  • Hinata entered the arena as Temari eyed her with jealousy and hostility, especially after noticing Toru Kujyo watching her.
  • Remembering Toru’s praise, Hinata stood tall instead of shrinking under Temari’s gaze.
  • Temari mocked Hinata as a pampered noble heiress, stirring Hinata’s resentment toward her family and the Main Family’s expectations.
  • Hinata awakened her Byakugan and vowed to show Temari what a noble family meant, then took an aggressive stance as Genma Shiranui began the match.
  • Temari opened with the Sickle Weasel Technique, sending a cutting blade of wind and sand toward Hinata.

Ch. 106Counterattack

Hinata overwhelmed Temari with her unique Rotation and a powerful counterattack, stunning the arena. Temari recovered and renewed the fight with a fierce wind technique, while Toru Kujyo watched Hinata’s struggle as an opportunity to temper her.

  • Hinata’s Rotation dismantled Temari’s Sickle Weasel attack, impressing Hanabi, Hiashi, Hiruzen, and Orochimaru.
  • Hinata used Toru Kujyo’s footwork to close in and struck Temari’s iron fan with enough force to injure her and drive her backward.
  • Hinata challenged Temari’s view of her as a sheltered heiress, while Naruto, Sasuke, and Shikamaru watched in astonishment.
  • Temari wiped away her blood, declared that Hinata had angered her, and prepared to intensify her attacks.
  • Genma Shiranui began the match, and Temari launched Wind Release: Sickle Weasel Technique.

Ch. 107The Arena

Hinata defeated Temari with Eight Trigrams: Mountain Crusher, but the next matches were disrupted when Kankuro forfeited and Gaara arrived before Sasuke. The match order changed, leaving Toru Kujyo facing Neji Hyuga as Toru began to rise into the air without hand seals or a visible chakra burst.

  • Hinata redirected Temari’s wind blades with Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms, closed the distance, and knocked her unconscious with Eight Trigrams: Mountain Crusher.
  • Genma Shiranui declared Hinata the winner, and Temari told Hinata she would challenge her again.
  • Kankuro forfeited his match against Shikamaru Nara, angering the spectators, while Naruto Uzumaki confronted him.
  • Gaara descended into the arena on a platform of sand, and Shikamaru and Hinata warned Toru Kujyo to be careful.
  • Genma changed the match order and announced Neji Hyuga versus Toru Kujyo; Neji took his stance as Toru calmly lifted off the ground without hand seals or a visible chakra burst.

Ch. 108Common sense

  • Toru Kujyo walked through the air toward the arena's center, astonishing Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi, Hiruzen Sarutobi, Orochimaru, and the spectators.
  • Hyuga Hiashi realized Toru and Hinata had likely known the Hyuga clan was monitoring them, and Neji stared at Toru in shock.
  • Gaara appeared and demanded to fight Toru, and Hiruzen Sarutobi approved changing the match order.
  • Genma Shiranui announced Gaara versus Toru, and Gaara attacked with Sand Binding Coffin, but Toru dodged it.
  • Gaara spread sand across the arena while Toru raised his right hand and said he was not interested in playing sand games.

Ch. 109Hand seals

Toru Kujyo overwhelmed Gaara with a colossal energy sphere and a newly fused three-element attack, breaking through Gaara’s Vacuum Sand Wall. The Radiant Light Cannon closed in on Gaara, leaving his survival uncertain.

  • Toru Kujyo challenged Gaara to withstand one move as he formed a massive blue-white energy sphere.
  • Gaara raised the Vacuum Sand Wall, and Toru’s sphere drilled into it, cracking the defense while Gaara struggled to repair it.

  • A clone appeared in a hidden cave and told Ranmaru that he could begin.

Ch. 111Upon hearing this

Toru Kujyo used Ranmaru’s Tenseigan to activate and direct three hundred Human Puppets into the battle around Konoha, where they harvested wounded fighters and attacked combatants from every side. After a puppet killed a Konoha ninja of the Shimura Clan, Toru discovered that defeating and killing enemies could yield traits, with special targets apparently improving the drop rate.

  • Ranmaru used his Tenseigan to awaken three hundred puppets and send them toward war-torn Konoha under Toru Kujyo’s orders.
  • The puppets secretly collected fallen fighters and extracted the hearts of powerful ninja to make Human Puppets.
  • Toru Kujyo ordered the Human Puppets to join the fighting, where they attacked wounded and active ninja from Konoha, Sunagakure, and the Sound Ninja.
  • A Human Puppet killed a Konoha ninja of the Shimura Clan, then fought a Konoha special jōnin who damaged its torso.
  • Toru Kujyo realized that defeating or killing enemies yielded traits and that killing special targets like Shimura Clan members seemed to raise the drop rate.
  • Toru Kujyo’s Shadow Clone commanded the puppets to continue.

Ch. 112Through Streets and Alleys

Toru Kujyo used the human puppets’ attacks during the battle in Konoha to harvest a blue trait, then sent several puppets to withdraw as he headed for Shimura Danzō’s secret Root base. After Pain breached its entrance, Danzō learned the intruder wielded the Rinnegan and became consumed by the desire to seize its power.

  • The human puppets killed Sand Ninja and feigned killing or knocking out Konoha Ninja, drawing rescuers into danger as Toru Kujyo gained a blue trait.
  • Toru Kujyo ordered several of the strongest human puppets to withdraw from the battlefield and head to his secret Root base.
  • Deva Path Pain exposed and destroyed the surveillance systems at a concealed entrance to Root’s Zone B.
  • Root operatives alerted Shimura Danzō to the intruder, and Yamanaka Fū identified him as an Akatsuki member with purple, ripple-patterned eyes.
  • Shimura Danzō recognized the intruder’s eyes as the Rinnegan and resolved to claim its power.

Ch. 113Orders

Toru Kujyo repelled Yamanaka Fū’s mind technique and destroyed the Root shinobi maintaining the Four Violet Flames Formation. As Root forces surrounded him, Shimura Danzō ordered a new barrier and a coordinated attack.

  • Yamanaka Fū’s Mind Body Switch Technique struck an invisible force around Toru Kujyo and rebounded, injuring Fū.
  • Toru Kujyo killed one of the four Root shinobi sustaining the Four Violet Flames Formation, then destroyed the barrier and killed the remaining three with Shinra Tensei.

  • Four Root shinobi formed a new Four Violet Flames Formation around Toru Kujyo as the others prepared their techniques.

Ch. 114Ashes

Toru Kujyo shattered Root’s defenses and endured its long-range attacks as Shimura Danzō studied his abilities and prepared to confront him personally. The chapter ended with Toru Kujyo hovering unharmed above the swamp, while Root’s assault fed him in a way its fighters did not understand.

  • Toru Kujyo used Shinra Tensei to disperse the volcanic ash, destroy Root’s poisonous insects, and shatter the Four Violet Flames Formation, killing the four ninja maintaining it.
  • Yamanaka Fū relayed Shimura Danzō’s order to abandon the barrier and use Earth Release and long-range ninjutsu to restrict Toru Kujyo and gather information.
  • Yamanaka Fū told Shimura Danzō that his mental links to Aburame Torune’s and Aburame Ryoma’s squads had been severed, suggesting other intruders were in the base.
  • Aburame Torune and Yamanaka Fū assessed Toru Kujyo’s repulsive abilities, chakra reserves, and resistance to mind techniques as Shimura Danzō listened.
  • Shimura Danzō uncovered the Sharingan in his right eye, released the restraints on his right arm, and signaled that he would face Toru Kujyo himself.
  • Toru Kujyo hovered above the Yellow Spring Swamp as Root’s long-range ninjutsu was repelled before reaching him, unaware that he was experiencing the attacks as a feast.

Ch. 115Repelled

Toru Kujyo repelled Danzo’s attacks and resisted Kotoamatsukami, trapping Danzo in his own genjutsu. Toru’s power destroyed Danzo’s spiritual form and the Mangekyō Sharingan he used to cast the technique.

  • Danzo learned from Toru that Hanzō was dead and Amegakure was under Akatsuki’s control, then attacked him again.
  • Toru used Shinra Tensei to smash Danzo through several walls, but Danzo used Izanagi to reappear beside him and strike at his eye.
  • Toru caught Danzo’s wrist, and Danzo cast Kotoamatsukami in a desperate attempt to control him.
  • Kotoamatsukami failed against Toru’s consciousness, and Danzo found himself trapped inside his own blood-red genjutsu space.
  • An enormous pair of blue-white eyes appeared and destroyed Danzo’s spiritual form, his Mangekyō Sharingan, and the genjutsu space.

Ch. 116World

Toru Kujyo destroyed Danzo’s consciousness, tore off his Hashirama-implanted arm, and left him barely alive in the Yellow Spring Swamp. He then used Shadow Clones and three hundred Blacksmith Family human puppets to slaughter the Root ninja and harvest points, deliberately sparing one hidden survivor to spread the story.

  • Toru Kujyo’s Tenseigan suppressed Danzo’s Kotoamatsukami, draining his ocular power and leaving him unconscious and helpless.
  • Toru Kujyo ripped off Danzo’s writhing Hashirama-implanted arm and threw it into the Yellow Spring Swamp, where Danzo fell and became a barely living vegetable.
  • Toru Kujyo summoned Shadow Clones and three hundred Blacksmith Family human puppets, then used Banshō Ten'in and Shinra Tensei to drive the Root ninja into their attacks.
  • Toru Kujyo realized that human puppets increased his point rewards and used them to kill the Root ninja while deliberately sparing a concealed survivor.
  • After roughly fifteen minutes, the massacre ended, and Toru Kujyo gained another 888 points.

Ch. 117Decomposition

Toru Kujyo wiped out Root, captured Shimura Danzō, and searched a hidden chamber beneath Hokage Rock for the Scrolls of Seals. A surviving Root ninja escaped to report Toru’s abilities, while Toru found Root’s secret techniques but no forbidden techniques and suspected Danzō had hidden them elsewhere.

  • Toru Kujyo decomposed Root’s fallen members, collected their remaining equipment, and ordered his Shadow Clones to seal the materials into scrolls.
  • Toru Kujyo pulled Shimura Danzō from the Yellow Spring Swamp and left Root with three hundred Human Puppets and dozens of Shadow Clones.
  • A Root ninja whom Toru had spared emerged from hiding and resolved to report Toru’s powers and resemblance to Pain.
  • Toru Kujyo broke through a concealed rock wall beneath Hokage Rock and entered a hidden chamber filled with Root’s intelligence, ninjutsu, and secret technique scrolls.
  • Toru Kujyo found no forbidden technique section and concluded that Shimura Danzō might still lead him to the hidden Scrolls of Seals.

Ch. 118Separate sections

Toru Kujyo learned the Yamanaka Clan’s Mind Reading Technique, used it to uncover the entrance to Shimura Danzō’s true treasury, and killed Danzō. He stripped Root’s base and the hidden treasury of their contents, then vanished into the night with the stolen assets.

  • Toru Kujyo learned the Mind Reading Technique from a Yamanaka Clan scroll and used it to search Shimura Danzō’s memories for forbidden techniques.

  • Toru Kujyo left the underground complex with the stolen contents and vanished from a secluded spot outside the base.

Ch. 119Nightfall

Toru Kujyo’s Shadow Clone, disguised as Pain, attacked the Hokage Building and destroyed its underground defenses. Yamato and the surviving Wood Release ninja were left battered as the clone hovered over the ruins.

  • Pain’s Shadow Clone incapacitated the Sensor Division, disabling the Hokage Building’s sensory barrier and allowing puppets to infiltrate.
  • Yamato and another ANBU attacked Pain with Earth and Wood Release, but Pain broke free with Shinra Tensei and entered the underground base.
  • A Nara ANBU restrained Pain with the Shadow Imitation Technique, but Pain rose into the air despite the restraint.

  • Yamato and the other Wood Release ninja survived behind wooden defenses, wounded and horrified by the destruction.

Ch. 120Pfft

Yamato fought the Rinnegan-wielding intruder in the underground base, but was defeated as the attacker obliterated the facility. Jiraiya arrived to find the intruder and Yamato gone, and recognized the power as the Rinnegan he had seen in Nagato.

  • Yamato ordered the Wood Release ANBU to escape and warn Jiraiya while he held off the intruder.
  • Yamato used Deep Forest Emergence to break free of Banshō Ten'in, but the intruder erased the forest with Shinra Tensei.
  • Yamato's Wood Locking Wall shattered, and he was knocked unconscious against a rock wall.
